Matthews Yells At Tea Party Leader: Why Is ‘Balloon-Head’ Bachmann Speaking For You
Chris Matthews was nearly apoplectic in his questioning of Tea Party Express co-founder Sal Russo on the topic of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and her controversial re-imagining of history where the founding fathers found a way to end slavery in their lifetime. Repeatedly calling Bachmann a “balloon head,” Matthews demanded to know why Russo and the Tea Party wanted Bachmann to give a response to the State of the Union address or, more generally, why they ever wanted her to open her mouth in the first place?
Funny, but Tweety doesn’t seem to get as upset about stupid guy politicians. I wonder why that is?
I’m no fan of Bachmann or the Tea Party, but do we really want the media deciding who should represent people? If the The Partiers want Bachmann speaking for them that’s none of Tweety’s damn business.

Bachmann is a loon, IMO, but the stuff she spouts is no loonier than many congresspersons on the right.
Like you, my beef is that those male loons get accorded some modicum of respect by the press. They might get criticized, but they are given some degree of cordiality for the office they hold.
Jindal, Pawlenty, DeMint, whoever – they often say the exact same crap that Bachmann does. And no major news anchor runs around screaming “balloon-head” at them.
Oh, and prior to her speech, the CNN cameraman was doing close-ups of her trying to get her mike adjusted, fiddling with her bra-strap, feeding wire under her skirt, etc. It was disgusting.
And I REALLY hate defending Bachmann, okay? I think she’s batshit off the charts politically. But yeah, the media treats her differently than equally batshit-but-has-a-penis politicians.
Personal attacks are reserved for women.
I guess we’re supposed to feel grateful that he didn’t scream “balloon boobs!”
I don’t beleive she is a loon or batshit crazy.. those terms are too easy to bandy around… if its her policies.. talk about them.. not just name call.. thats just my opinion
I read somewhere recently that 99% of Republicans are stupid. (Reagan, Bush, Ford, Ike)
The ones that aren’t stupid are evil (Nixon, Cheney)
A few are both (Palin)
Yes, Ike must have been pretty stupid to plan Operation Overlord. Most of those calling him stupid couldn’t organize a fall off a bar stool
Okay, I apologize for the loon part. But the rest of my point is true – they treat the women differently.
I will willingly call both Bachmann and DeMint loons which solves the problem of holding women politicians to a higher standard than men.
Frankly, I think Chris Matthews is a drooling loon……so in honor of male/female equivalency…. so is Roseanne Barr.
Did I pass?
OT, but Obama may live to regret talking about Sputnik moments. Because people got curious, and are busily researching, and are finding stuff like this:
Moral: It’s not how much money you spend. It’s whether you have the brains and will to target it.
Here’s a lengthy breakdown on what space investment has done and could do for the economy. But do we get that? No. We get turtle underpasses, road signs, and fucking trains.

I’m getting tired of the media calling Bachmann crazy and stupid. Compared to whom?? Anybody read Huckabee, Ryan, Romney’s ideas??
How about Randall Terry, the violent pro-life guy who is challenging Obama for the Dem nomination?? Anybody on TV say he’s bat shit crazy, dumber than a door nob, incites violence, and has ugly ass cankles?? Nope. In his case, those things are probably all true, but apparently the media believes it would be disrespectful to mention them.
There was a rumor going around the net that Chris Matthews wanted the job of press secretary for Bill Clinton. That went to M J “Dee Dee” Myers instead.
If true would explain his dislike of the Clintons in particular and women in general.
Take this with a grain of salt as I have never been able to confirm it.
Nuance alert.
Rather than digging into this, I’ll just throw out the possibility that Bachmann was misconstrued. What if she meant that Whosis kept working all his life to end slavery, not that he succeeded?
What if such misconstruction is part of the disrespect to women? (Except that it’s done to some men also, such as to Gore in 2000.)
