Some of you may have noticed my recent absence. I’ve been very sick and I’m still not completely well. But don’t start celebrating, I’m told I’ll probably recover.
But I’m also sick of the world right now. I found myself largely unmoved and uninterested in the events in Egypt because I didn’t expect to see any significant change. The sexual assault on Lara Logan left me unshocked because I never fell for the simplistic “noble freedom fighters vs. the forces of tyranny” narrative we have been seeing. The fact is we have far more in common with the Tea Partiers than we do with either (or any) side in Cairo.
I am also unmoved by events in Wisconsin but for a different reason. What is happening in Cheeseland is democracy in action. The Republicans won the last election and they are trying to implement their vision of the way things ought to be. I don’t agree with their vision but I agree with their right to make the changes they are seeking. That’s why we have elections.
I said back in 2008 when Obama and the DINOcrats stole the election that things would have to get worse before they could get better. I hate being right all the time.
I’m going back to bed now.
