I love a good rant, and Riverdaughter has posted a couple of doozies the past two days. Real stream-of-consciousness spleen venting. Awesome.
We’re seeing a lot of effort lately by Dick and the Dickocrats to convince progressives to return to their veal pens. The basic message is the same one we’ve been hearing for a while now – ZOMG! The Republicans are crazy like Charles Manson, Jeffery Dahmer and Norman Bates only worse! If we don’t stop them they will kill us and turn us into cat food!
IF YOU DON’T SUPPORT THE DEMOCRATS WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!
Why should I support a party that doesn’t support me?
Back in 2008 my state (California) moved its primary from June to SuperDuper Tuesday so we could have a say in picking the nominees. We spent millions of dollars holding a special primary election. Hillary won here by 10 points.
California has 10% of the Electoral College votes – 1/5 of the number needed to win. We sent 553 delegates to the 2008 DNC convention. That is over 12% of the total number of delegates. 232 were pledged delegates committed to Hillary.
How many California delegates voted for Hillary at the convention?
They skipped over us during the roll call vote because our delegation refused to switch their votes to Obama and we would have given Hillary the lead, at least temporarily.
49 other states held primaries and/or caucuses. All the big states except Illinois voted for Hillary. Critical swing states like Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania voted for Hillary. Most of those were decisive victories, ten points or more.
Obama not only had a huge money advantage but the media kept insisting he was the inevitable winner – “Hillary can’t catch him” they claimed. But the voters didn’t listen, they voted for Hillary anyway.
Hillary won West Virginia by 41 points – Obama was closer to zero than he was to her. The day after the West Virgina primary their two Democratic senators, Robert Byrd and Jay Rockefeller, endorsed Obama.
I don’t give a fuck what the Democratic establishment wanted – the voters wanted Hillary. Despite everything she still won, fair and square. But they gave Obama the nomination anyway.
I’ve supported losing candidates before. While I don’t enjoy losing that’s just part of life – better luck next time. But when you and your candidate snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and “your” party takes it from you and gives it to the guy you beat, that’s unforgivable.
I owe the Democrats NOTHING
