Clean Zuccotti Live Blog (UPDATED)

UPDATE:

The park owners notified the police last night they are postponing the clean-up. I smell a rat. I’ll explain later. Need sleep now.

It’s about 4:30 am at Zuccotti Squatters’ Park.

It’s quiet now, but no telling what time the festivities will begin. There are apparently quite a few people there but some stuff has been packed up and moved to storage.

Here is the OWSNY Live-stream

Or you can follow the NY Daily News or Justin Idiot on Twitter.

Contrary to popular belief I do sleep occasionally. I’ll try to keep things up-to-date but I’m not gonna do a play-by-play. This could last all day.

I’m gonna sticky this post to the top of the front page, look below for regular posts.

This is the current extent of the police:

  2. I just heard the park owners might be “backing down.” Of course, city ordinances take precedence, so Bloomberg would have to back down too.

  3. NYDN:

Protestors are busy packing up their tents, tarps, and personal possessions to comply with the 7 am curfew to remove their belongings.

Crowds are swelling. It’s nearly impossible to walk towards the middle of the park.

NYPD are beginning to mobilize a few blocks away where several police vans are parked.

  4. Found this live stream as well. Still to dark and audio is distorted but it’s out with the protesters

I’m standing in the middle of the square. The protestors are literally pressed up against each other and bracing themselves for a confrontation.

“Are we ready to defend our park!” a protestor shouted as the crowd roared it’s approval.

What if the cops don’t do anything for 4-5 hours?

Zuccotti ownrs told City Hall last night that cleaning is being postponed. Huge cheer

    So that’s it?

  7. Multiple sources confirm that the park owners have withdrawn their request for police help in cleaning park.

This is a postponement, not a cancellation.

  8. Are they playing the boy who cried wolf?

  9. This all seems so scripted. bloomie’s live in girlfriend, Diana Taylor, is on the Board of Brookfield Properties. I

  10. Why were they ever permitted to pitch tents to begin with? Doesn’t this set a really bad precedent. Pisses me off that the 1%’er oprah gets a nickel from my cable bill every month and she was lobbying for more as a minority owned station. Talk about greed.

  11. Awwww…no footage of sweet tender, defenseless sanitation workers pummeled by beefy, violent hippies then? Oh, the disappointment! keep the popcorn dry, though. They’ll find another legitimate need to be in the park soon and you’ll agree with that one too.

  12. CNN reporting that the park owners got lots of angry, threatening phone calls, especially from local and state legislators (presumably, all Democrats) for trying to clean the park and move protestors out.

Large part of why it was cancelled, according to CNN/Bloomberg.

  13. got a bad feeling about this. :scared:
