I thought this deserved separate attention. NY Post:

Organizers took other steps to police the squatters, who they said were lured in from other parks with the promise of free meals.

A team of 10 security volunteers moved in to the trouble-prone southwest section of Zuccotti Park in a show of force to confront them.

“We’re not going to let some members of this community destroy the whole movement,” a volunteer said.

Some arguments broke out as the security team searched tents — but no violence erupted.

Overall security at the park had deteriorated to the point where many frightened female protesters had abandoned the increasingly out-of-control occupation, security- team members said.

Rumors swirled that one homeless man had pulled a knife in a dispute the night before — and that there had been yet another case of groping.

But protesters and a cop on duty told The Post that most of the crime goes unreported, because of a bizarre “stop snitching” rule.

Searching tents? Did they have a warrant? I know at least one witness said if you try to bring alcohol into Zuccotti Park the security force will confiscate it. Where I live that would be called “stealing.”

      The sad thing about it is they are training a whole bunch of crime victims to distrust the police. That is effed up, and is generally for the protection of male mayhem-creators. I’ve read THREE stories of rape at occupied events just this week. What’s happening with regard to that and police relations is appalling.

    Good for them! I hope all the women involved put their safety and self preservation first. It’s depressing how easy it is for many women to be sucked in by concepts like “freedom” and “idealism,” sucked in to the point where they feel like they have to sacrifice their own safety for the “common good.” That’s a bunch of crap.

      In all fairness, the homeless were there first. The occupiers are in their territory. As far as the homeless are concerned, the 1% just moved into their neighborhood, LOL!

          We are a non-gun household but I had both girls taking karate. The older one quit just before black belt test but the younger one competes for medals. I’m hoping to get them both into other forms of self-defense also. Girls need to learn not to pull punches.

          OTOH the older one’s bff is from a very nice die-hard NRA family so she may get influenced that way anyway.
