Cops lie, video doesn’t

Cop is so busted

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but this video is worth seven years.

That’s what John Hockenjos was facing after being accused on Sunday of creating a “grave risk of death” by whipping his car into a driveway at a “high rate of speed,” forcing a cop to jump out of the way to save his life.

The only problem with the case is that a “crystal- clear” surveillance video shows Hockenjos slowly pulling into the driveway while Officer Diego Palacios stands absolutely still, said Craig Newman, Hockenjos’ lawyer.

“In my 20 years of legal experience, I’ve never seen a more crystal-clear example of a false arrest,” Newman said outside court after he asked Brooklyn Criminal Court Judge Alexander Jeong to dismiss the case yesterday.

The arrest stemmed from a dispute between Hockenjos, 55, and his neighbor Argo Paumere over who owns the driveway between their Sheepshead Bay houses.

Palacios was standing in the driveway when Hockenjos calmly pulled in and got out of his car.

But when the exchange got heated, Palacios cuffed Hockenjos and charged him with first-degree reckless endangerment.

The case was undone by a surveillance camera that Hockenjos had mounted in the driveway.

There is no explanation as to why the cop decided to lie and charge the man with a serious felony. But the video leaves no doubt – he was lying.

  2. Andrew Breitbart just tickles me…video of his speech at:

Via Mediaite, the key bit comes at 5:15 but don’t skip. Watch the whole thing, as this is easily the most entertaining speech you’ll see at CPAC. Naturally he’s coy about what he’s got, but it sounds like it has to do with O as a student radical. I wonder if big media, having heard this, will scramble to try to uncover the footage and put it out ASAP so that it’s old news by the time of the general election. Can’t wait to hear their explanations for why they couldn’t be bothered to do that last cycle.
Note well what he says at 10:30 about Bernadine Dohrn’s take on the anti-war movement. It’s a comfort to know that some of its leaders are now willing to admit what a fraud it was.

Obama may get his vetting this cycle :D

    • Watched that live. Pretty entertaining. The problem with what people at one extreme think is damning is that people in the middle often think it’s nothing.

Conservative: {{head exploding}} See, he’s an evil radical smoking the reefer!!!!!

Independent: Oh look, isn’t Obama cute as a college student smoking a joint.

  3. CPAC protesters were paid $60 by their union and had no idea what CPAC was ! (w/video)

  4. Santorum surges into the lead. Latest PPP polling, lol.

Riding a wave of momentum from his trio of victories on Tuesday Rick Santorum has opened up a wide lead in PPP’s newest national poll. He’s at 38% to 23% for Mitt Romney, 17% for Newt Gingrich, and 13% for Ron Paul.

    • This election kind of feels like a parole hearing. Are we going to be released or are we going to do four more years of hard time?

      • LOL! But I’d be happy with four years. The tyranny of the uni-party candidates is looking more like a life sentence.

  5. Ack, Twitter’s going all changey again, now you have to use an embed code to share ? Oh well, here’s a goody….using good ole copy/paste

Happy Birthday @SarahPalinUSA when you are done blowing out the candles, feel free to announce your candidacy at #CPAC. #teaparty

    I wish :D

  6. Bad cop, no donut? We had so many bad cops in my town the donut shop actually went bankrupt.

  7. With that kind of evidence, that cop needs to be fired.

  8. Fucking asshole.

You know, when someone kills a cop, or someone in a similar position of power and authority, the result is much more intense than it is when a regular citizen is the victim. The theory, which makes some sense, is that if the perpetrator will do that to a cop, then they’ll do even worse to regular people. That is, they’re more dangerous. So here’s my question, shouldn’t it be similar the other way around. If someone with all the power and ability to kill people, legally, abuse their power in the way this cop did, shouldn’t the punishment be much more severe? After all, not only are they more dangerous given their position, but have shown they can use that dangerous power freely to destroy others — that is, they can kill lots of people and in this case can without a second thought try to destroy someone’s life for personal reasons.

    • Yes, they should be held to a higher standard. If you do something criminal, you haven’t just committed a crime, you’ve violated the trust people have invested in you. Not only have you betrayed the general public, you’ve made other cops look bad, too. It’s like committing three crimes at once.

    • Right on.

    • That reminds me – Sarah’s CPAC speech is at 1:30 Malibu time

      • It was a great speech. There’s was even a disruption that only energized her more and kind of backfired. Even more clear why everyone is scared shitless of her.
