I got stuff to do open thread

I need to go to Wally World to get my car serviced and do some shopping, then come home and spray some weeds. I spent most of the weekend mowing the back 40 and I want to kill the weeds so I don’t have to mow them again. If I have any energy left (doubtful) I’ll start working on my garden to get it ready for planting.

What are you doing today?

  1. I’m just hanging out, doing laundry, poking around online. Found a new hashtag.

Obama never learns with the Twitter hashtags. He started another one. #BuffetRule is now full of such comments as:

“Stop hogging all the baby corns!” and “All sons of sons of sailors will be mandated to go out on the sea for adventure”
    :D

  2. Santorum suspending his campaign – sounds like his kid Bella is in a really bad way.
    Prayers for the family.

(I hope Newt stays in because otherwise registering GOP will be for nothing if I don’t get to vote in this stinkin’ primary.)

  3. Today is a weird one. MLB players sometimes get off days at home or on the road between series. Yesterday the Giants played the Rockies in Colorado. Both teams are off today and then play each other again on Wed. and Thur. in Colorado.

  4. This weekend we watched The Hunger Games and then I reread books 2 & 3. I remember hating book 3 (Mockingjay) when I first read it, but now I think it’s in my top 10.

    • Great rant. What brought that on?

    • {hug} syd. I left animal welfare years ago when I tried to help change the laws banning puppy millers and found out I was fighting the so called “responsible breeders”. I gave up. Don’t breed or buy while homeless pets die (in shelters), we can’t rescue them all :(

  5. Love that ’57 retractable. That couple, btw, are more than likely waiting for a jumper battery because (due to a temporary decrease in cerebral blood flow to the frontal and temporal lobes) he forgot to start the engine before retracting the roof, afterwards.

  6. Okay, back from Wally World. I’m gonna take a break before I go spray weeds.

  7. Paul Ryan: Obama’s attacks just ‘verbal tantrums’

In a “Today” show appearance Tuesday morning, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said he hadn’t seriously considered being tapped as Mitt Romney’s running-mate.

But the House budget chairman has already settled comfortably into a traditional VP role: attack dog.

Asked why President Obama was targeting the congressman’s budget as a “Trojan horse” and “social Darwinism,” Ryan dismissed the president’s critiques.

“You know, we’ve gotten kind of used to this sort of verbal tantrums from the president. To me it’s a little more petulance than presidential,” Ryan told NBC. “He’s trying to use this kind of rhetoric to distort away from his failed record.”

    • That criticism of Obama is right on the money. And frankly that approach is stupid when you should be able to argue policy issues and win. But Obama can’t even argue basic Dem vs. Repub policy. Sad.

  8. Zimmerman’s legal team says they’ve lost contact and so no longer represent him. They also are troubled by Zimmerman’s website and recent talking, giving his side of the story.

Also note that Sean Hannity said the other day that he has contact and has talked to Zimmerman recently.

I rather doubt Zimmerman knows what he’s doing. Time for the sharks to move back in and crucify him.

  9. I don’t think O’Keefe is a putz….

Instead of signing my credit/debit cards, I write “ask for photo i.d.”

    • so do I on my debit and credit cards. I won a pie at a local restruant an had to show photo ID to claim it, so I really do not understand the objection to showing ID to vote

    • He seems like one to me, and I’d probably think the same if he were stinging for the left. It’s not the issues he takes on so much as his credibility. Reminds me of a high school prankster. Just me.

      • I try to separate my opinion of the person from any truths revealed in the video. I think O’Keefe is a prat. I also think he has at times uncovered some real shit. Take with a grain of salt, like anything.

  10. just because sometimes we need a smile

  11. this is interesting, I had read awhile ago that the student loan was the next bubble.

  12. I’m trying to figure out the ins and outs of web hosting. So far it’s trial and error, but it’s knowledge I need.

Also paying bills and ordering checks, etc. Desperately seeking to avoid grading for one more night.

    • It’s a fine rant but the problem I have with it is Ashley Judd has clearly invested in and benefitted from the vain and misogynistic beauty nonsense for many years. She wouldn’t have had the career or the celebrity or wealth she’s enjoyed if it weren’t for the way she looks. Now that she’s middle aged and the culture that exalted her appearance is beginning to criticize it, and predictably so I might add, she’s complaining.

As they say down Texas way, you gotta dance with them what brung you.

      • Ashley’s been one of hollywood’s more talented actors for the past two decades. I’ve thought that since her first indie film Ruby in Paradise. She’s always been active for causes, and she campaigns for Obama. Not sure that’s a reason to go after her physical appearance.

no movie studio, will sell to developer for low income housing

    • Didn’t know there was a desire for low income housing in Marin. Anyway, Lucas should build his studio at the SF Presidio where he owns lots of property. Sure the locals there would be happy.

      • from the article, I get the impression that the low income housing plan is a FU to the neighbors

        • Yes. They were pissy at having a studio there, so now they get low-income neighbors. I’m sure all the “liberal” hollywoodites will be just fine with that, right?

        • Oh no, where will they put the vineyards. Rich people problems.

        • TW, I have no problem with rich people who want to keep their neighborhood nice. Thing is – you don’t want something unsightly there? Then YOU buy that land. Otherwise STFU.

        • I used to live and work up that way. The people there are either wealthy or work in SF. They want to prevent ALL development.

          NIMBY

  14. Ace of Spades:

Remember that live chat Obama did?

Where a woman asked why Obama was issuing so many visas to foreign engineers, when her own husband couldn’t land a job in the field?

And Obama said to forward the resume along, and he’d do what could?

That guy still doesn’t have a job.
