He’s LeBron, baby!

“I’m LeBron, baby. I can play on this level. I got some game.”

– Sen. Barack Obama, 2004

Obama: I Can Do Every Job Better Than Those I Hire to Do It

It appears one of the great challenges that President Obama has had to overcome in office is that no one around him is as good at his job as he is.

From Jodi Kantor’s The Obamas, page 66:

Obama had always had a high estimation of his ability to cast and run his operation. When David Plouffe, his campaign manager, first interviewed for a job with him in 2006, the senator gave him a warning: “I think I could probably do every job on the campaign better than the people I’ll hire to do it,” he said. “It’s hard to give up control when that’s all I’ve known.” Obama said nearly the same thing to Patrick Gaspard, whom he hired to be the campaign’s political director. “I think I’m a better speechwriter than my speechwriters,” Obama told him. “I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And I’ll tell you right now that I’m gonna think I’m a better political director than my political director.”

This is not some long-ago sentiment, or momentary lapse into egoism. Michelle Obama declared at a Democrat party fundraiser in California last June:

“He reads every word, every memo, so he is better prepared than the people briefing him,” she said. “This man doesn’t take a day off.”

Whether you call it ego, conceit or self-confidence, nobody runs for POTUS without quite a bit of it. But Obama is the definition of hubis – “overweening pride.” Get him away from a teleprompter and he’s a stuttering clusterf**k. Put him in a debate with Hillary and he copies off her paper.

As for his political skills, he only won his first campaign by getting all the competition thrown off the ballot. He got his clock cleaned by Bobby Rush in 1992. Then he hired David Axelrod, but even then he only won in 2004 because his opponents had dirty laundry. Hillary spent less money than he did and got more votes, and McPalin would have won had it not been for the financial meltdown.

Obama’s a jerk of all trades.

BTW – How many championships has LeBron won?

  2. Loves to fell his own smarts!

  3. Of course he has a high estimation of his own abilities — all narcissists do.

  4. Woot, Taylor Marsh….

    http://taylormarsh.com/blog/2012/04/its-not-walking-while-white-its-the-rodney-king-syndrome/

Nothing is better than Spitzer on Edwards than Taylor on Rodney :D

    • Did she have a point? Because racists exist (and they do), and black people are angry, everyone should STFU about any racial violence towards whites?

    • The only thing I can thank Obot-Taylor Marsh for is the comment section where all the disaffected Hillary Dems she was suddenly shooing off of her site were leaving links to new safe blogs. They were all stunned at the reversal and iirc there was still a donation link with a running total showing how close they were to next money bomb/donation drive for Hillary.

Interesting that she now has Hillary love all over the place….

      • Bots, which included the Taylor Marshes no matter what they said, have embraced Hillary (see Texts From Hillary) and she’s publicly embraced them back. Meanwhile Bill has joined the Obama 2.0 campaign.

        • Meanwhile Bill has joined the Obama 2.0 0.987 (beta) campaign.

          FIFY

        • Ha! Much better, thanks!

        • What choice does Bill have as a Dem ex-Pres? Besides scanning the supportive comments for Clinton-speak is always fun.

And most of them could probably be applied to Obama. ;)

        • Bill and Hillary Clinton both made a choice after her loss in 2008. They’ve made choices all their lives. We all have choices, and they made theirs to remain in the top echelon following ’08. I don’t begrudge them that, in fact I admire that they were able to swallow their pride and bitterness and just keep marching on; they’re in a position to get more large scale good accomplished from that perch than from the marginalized territory that a Jimmy Carter has operated from. But there’s a price to pay and I won’t pretend it’s something it’s not. There always is a cost; and at this point in the United States’ history We The People are paying the ransom.

  5. Gotta love those environmental activists. Happy Earth Day everyone! We left you lots of trash! Do they not realize how bad this makes them look?

    http://nation.foxnews.com/earth-day/2012/04/24/green-activists-trash-park-earth-day

    • The Tea Party got pretty clever with their bag brigades. Of course, they needed to because the Park Service made sure all the trash cans were full the day before the 8/28/10 rally in DC.

      • Yes I was there. I walked the breaking dawn mile from my hotel at 6 a.m. to get a good 8.28 spot, and every trashcan on the Mall was overflowing with trash. I wondered if that was intentional. I think the Beckistan group did leave the Mall in better condition than they found it.

  6. Obama was probably going to win in Ilionois after the Jack Ryan scandal was mysteriously revealed. Axelrod just outed Alan Keyes’ gay daughter for fun.

As for 2008, McCain might have actually pulled out a win had Steve Schmidt not convinced him to double down on suspending his campaign and pushing for TARP when most Americans opposed it.

Schmidt not only lost the presidency, the Republican reversal on TARP probably lost them dozens of seats. It’s why he likely has a job for life at MSNBC.

    • It was the ChicagoTribune that outed the Jack Ryan sealed divorce info as well as the earlier Rep presumed opponent (whose name i can’t remember at this time). Axelrod had ties to the ChicagoTribune and was feeding them the stuff.
When the Trib endorsed candidate Obama, i knew there was something really fishy happening. The Trib had never before endorsed a Dem presidential candidate evah.

  7. Romney needs to appoint Newt to some wonky panel position where his detail and smarts and ability to logic outside the box will do some good, get people thinking of alternatives, even far-fetched ones. Newt’s a great brainstormer. Just no power for Noot. He doesn’t do well with it.

  8. Stolen from a commenter on HotAir

“In 2008, Obama needed to spend a billion dollars because nobody knew who he was.

In 2012, Obama will need to spend a billion dollars… because everyone knows who he is.

  9. He just hasn’t earned it yet, baby. ;)

  10. Obama sucks.

    • He really does. He sounds awful lately, too. I watched Romney’s acceptance speech, and the contrast of just hearing him talk without hectoring and scolding this or that segment of the country was refreshing – regardless of agreement or not.

I think that contrast is not going to do Obama any favors for the next 6 months. Because he has nothing to run on except pointing the finger and saying – “resent those people over there!” Whether “those people” deserve some ire is beside the point, politically speaking. The optics are terrible, and striking.

      • Speaking of being positive at the acceptance speech…the Boston Globe noticed too. And look, Romney isn’t afraid of/pathological against giving Clinton praise.

        http://www.boston.com/Boston/politicalintelligence/2012/04/mitt-romney-with-nod-ronald-reagan-asking-voters-how-life-has-improved-under-obama/hFWSQSyMlBORsc1ne1wRzO/index.html

At one point, he paid homage to the campaign slogans of both Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton in their bids to defeat an incumbent president during economic turmoil.

“Is it easier to make ends meet? Is it easier to sell your home or buy a new one?” he said, as the crowd cheered “NO!”

“Have you saved what you needed for retirement? Are you making more AT your job? Do you have a better chance to get a better job? Are you paying less at the pump?”

“It’s still about the economy,” Romney added, bluntly. “And we’re not stupid.”

Hope Romney keeps slamming him with those lines. The fact that a Rep is using Clinton’s is just dog-kabob-tasty.

    • Like a Hoover

  11. “The 2-by-4 campaign for women”

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0412/75514.html

Romney’s campaign needs to win over women, too, but so far isn’t wielding the two-by-four that Team Obama prefers.

And apparently the WH has been warriors for women…forevah…and it’s just the media noticing now.

But senior administration officials say the only difference between the past few months and the earlier years of the Obama administration is that the media are now focusing on the president’s efforts.

“Policy issues affecting women have always been a priority here,” said Jennifer Palmieri, deputy White House communications director. “They just got a lot more attention from the press following the legislative battles over contraception.”

The White House women’s forum, for example, had been in the planning stages since November. And in general, aides say, the administration has taken into account the impact of its policies on women from the start, an approach coordinated through the White House Council on Women and Girls, which has a senior-level liaison at every federal department.

Obama opened up with a double-digit lead among women in several polls in late March and early April after Republican presidential hopefuls backed congressional GOP efforts to restrict access to birth control. Yet two more recent surveys — a CBS News/New York Times poll and a Pew Research Center poll — show the gap narrowing.

And just another link to remind us how this all really got started.

  12. Unfortunately for Obama, the hash dontdoublemyrate applies to lots of things like gas, etc.:

    • They absolutely suck at rolling out anything. How many times have they announced some police one day, only to backtrack/denounce it the next?

But these campaign blunders are absolutely priceless.

  13. The ’92 memo that put the Big Dawg on Arsenio. And a….Woof…Woof…Woof…to the ‘Dog Pound’.

    http://www.laphamsquarterly.org/voices-in-time/media-saturation.php

Referenced here….since Obama is on a ‘hilarious’ campaign week.

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/apr/23/inside-the-beltway-clinton-was-advised-to-do-rush/

President Obama’s work week has been framed as “hilarious” in press accounts because his schedule includes a stop Tuesday night on NBC’s “Jimmy Fallon” and a starring role at the behemoth White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday opposite ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel, toastmaster and political roast master for the night.

Pundits postulate that the president seeks to reignite old hopey-changey sentiments in young voters by courting the hipster broadcasters. But then, this is tradition. Such things were invented by another Democrat two decades ago when one former President Bill Clinton played “Heartbreak Hotel” on the saxophone for late night man Arsenio Hall on June 3, 1992. That in mind, Lapham’s Quarterly, a magazine of “history and ideas,” has published the original memo from then Democratic strategist Mandy Grunwald that defined the genre, dated April 27 of that year.

  14. From a commenter on HotAir. Happened today.

I’m sorry Ed, for the OT intrusion, but I have to write this because I’m so angry.

I just got a call from my mother, who is at the airport, traveling with my father, a retired general in the military, being pushed through security in a wheelchair.

He has served his country for many years and now is quite old, and is getting on the plane VERY upset.

They just confiscated and threw in the trash can, right in front of him, his miniature Swiss-Army knife, which has a ONE-AND-ONE-HALF-INCH BLADE AND TOOTHPICK, because he didn’t think to take it out of his pocket.

He is ill, and didn’t think of it. He has carried that toy knife for THIRTY YEARS, even while on ACTIVE DUTY, to open envelopes and packages, and, yes, for personal hygiene after meals.

The airport assistant pushing his wheelchair offered to take it and send it to him, but the F**KING TSA AGENT WOULD NOT LET ANYONE TAKE IT OUT OF THE TRASH CAN, SITTING RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM, JUST AFTER EVERYONE INVOLVED WATCHED THE SOB AGENT THROW IT IN THE CAN OVER MY FATHER’S PROTESTS!!!

Now, one can make arguments over how someone might have inside knowledge that my father, who can barely walk, might be carrying that miniature knife, overpower him, steal his knife from the depths of his pocket, overpower all the other passengers, take a stewardess hostage, force the opening of the cockpit door, and crash the plane into the f**king White House.

But is that really going to happen, with a man who carried Top-Secret clearance for years and defended his country, and was respected enough to make his way to the near TOP of the military?

The TSA should be FORCED to have envelopes right there at the checkpoint, for passengers to mail conficated belongings they have INADVERTENTLY overlooked while preparing for their virtual strip-search.

Oh, I forgot, the TSA has NO INTEREST in serving the public by doing this because they hold AUCTIONS TO SELL THE STUFF THEY STOLE AND THREW IN THE TRASH CANS!

    Damn it to hell.

My dad is very upset, and he is so fragile that any upset may be his last.

We better get ahold of the TSA right away and force them to serve the public, or flat out ABOLISH that bureaucratic monster, or they will have their boots on our necks.

    This is BULL$HIT.

    ———–

    just e-mailed Hannity and O’Reilly.

It happened at New Orleans airport, about 1:45p Central, today.

My dad was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, helped protect the country, has/had Top-Secret security clearance, and retired a 2-star general.

He’s in a wheelchair now and 80-y.o. and very weak, and he is enraged.

He had that knife for 30 years and took in on duty to the PENTAGON, and the New-Orleans TSA threw it in the TRASH, to AUCTION IT!!!!

I am going to help him wirte a letter on his General’s stationery to the Secretary of Defense, the head of the TSA, to the head of Homeland Security, and to the G-DAMN PRESIDENT.

    Enough is enough.

Yesterday, it was a 4-year-old with a GUN.

    F___ the TSA.

    cane_loader on April 24, 2012 at 3:58 PM

    • They must have advertized for the scum of the earth to work for the TSA. They have yet to catch a terrorist and have terrorized children and abused the elderly and the sick.

    • The Republicans need to start pushing hard for hearings on the TSA and probably disbanding it.

    • A couple of years back I was travelling to Jerusalem via Vienna and had a small fruitknife confiscated by the zealous Austrian personnel. It was put in an envelope that I was told to pick up at Ben Gurion Airport when arriving there.

In Jerusalem the airport employee made ‘heavensent’ eyes and shook her head in disbelief when she opened the envelope and handed me my small innocent ‘weapon’ back. And mind you, this was the reaction from an Israeli – somewhat the expertise in defending themselves! Even to them some things are just too small, too ridicules.

I feel bad for the old man who will probably not get his, to him precious, knife back – and I know a new one won’t be the same –but I hope he’ll at least get a proper apology and that from way up top, if for no other reason than “If my Grandfather was still alive, he would look like …”

  15. Barack Obama’s never been competent, certainly not better or smarter, he’s been lucky.

And I don’t think his luck has run out.

    • If by “luck” you mean cheating, dirty deeds and other nefarious shenanigans, then yes, Obama’s luck has probably not run out yet. No telling what he will pull — even declaring marshal law — to keep himself in the WH. Absolutely nothing is beneath him.

      • It’s weird to see you mention marshall law, angie. I’ve often wondered if he would go that far, and though I’ve never wanted to have a firearm, when I think of Obama having that much control, I find the idea of a gun more than palatable.

  16. nothing!!!!!!
