Rodney King got beaten by the cops on March 1, 1991. A little over a year later the cops got acquitted. On April 29, 1992 parts of Los Angeles exploded in violence and an orgy of looting and arson.

If something similar happens it would be very sad indeed. It was horrible what happened, but at least the rage and emotion then was about a real injustice. If it happens this time, it would be driven by faux rage and drummed up race baiting by Al Sharpton and others for the most cynical reason of all, a re-election campaign stunt.
mob rule hurts everyone. The people directly involved, the police, and the people that have to pay to rebuild what is destroyed.
In Philadelphia, we had some riots but the mayor at that time said contain them and let them burn down their own neighborhoods.
We had the MOVE confrontation where children died and a block of homes burned when the police dropped tear gas on a roof with out knowing that the move people had poured gasoline along the roofs of the whole block. They would not come our and refused to let the children come out.
When MLK was killed I worked in an office building between two bell telephone buildings. There was anger that they did not lower the flag to half mast. I had to try and get to the train station through an angry mob while pregnant. not fun. the only place I could walk was in traffic in the middle of the street.

I guess with all the anger stirred up by sharpton and jackson and the other race baiters there most likely will be riots it there is an aquitital in the martin case and sharpton and jackson will not be in the middle of it ,but somewhere safe egging them on
I am not sure there will be riots. I think that was the threat to get a special prosecutor to bypass the local police and DA because they were not moving fast enough and not hearing what they wanted. The case for many reasons is loosing steam. I think the Zimmerman bloody head photo opened up the case and made people question the spin that had been peddled through the press. This case is much more nuanced and complicated than was first sold. Are riots going to happen because Zimmerman was allowed competent counsel? Rioting because our legal system is slow and deliberate? Random acts of violence is more likely with some mini-mayhem that will be quickly subdued. The longer it goes on and the more information from court evidence the more it deflates.
Oh, I hope this is true ! Never sure of my sources any more, but the race baiting and hateful rhetoric from the Jessie and Al show has got to stop ! Hope they have a case….

I’ve been on the edge of a couple of riots before, mostly white people’s riots. It’s pretty scary and mostly involves young men simply loosing their minds. What they’re protesting is not even part of the picture, it’s as if they just want to destroy something. In Oregon and Wa right now we’ve got these “flash robs,” where a crowd of people run into a store, smash things up and steal candy and beer. Why? I haven’t got a flippin clue. It’s like people just have too much aggression and too much time on their hands.
