One Zombie, Two Events

From Zombie at Pajamas Media:

Walk for Life vs. Roe v. Wade birthday party: Abortion showdown SF

On January 26, two diametrically opposed ideologies chose San Francisco as their battleground. To our left, the pro-choice army convened at the city’s Embarcadero to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade (which formally legalized abortion throughout the United States); to our right, the pro-life army convened for its ninth annual Walk for Life (the largest anti-abortion event on the West Coast).

What happened when the two armies clashed?

[...]

[Pro-choice woman haranguing pro-life marchers:]

Get your vaginal probe out of my vagina!
Get your crucifix out of my uterus!
Oh yeah, the truth hurts!
What are you teaching your little children? How to make women DIE???
Get your crucifix out of my uterus!
Get your crucifix out of my uterus!
Get your crucifix out of my uterus!
Get your vaginal probe out of my vagina!
Get your crucifix out of my vagina!
Get your vaginal probe out of my vagina!
That’s disgusting! What are you looking around for?
Vaginas!
Uteruses!
Get your crucifix out of my vagina!
Get your crucifix out of my vagina.
Get your crucifix out of my uterus!
Get your vaginal probe out of my vagina!
Get your vaginal probe out of my vagina!
Get the cross out of my…uterus.
Get your crucifix out of my uterus!
Oh, a t-shirt: We wouldn’t want you to learn anything!
Vaginal probes out of my vagina!
Get your crucifix out of my uterus!

But wait — we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s go back to the beginning of the day and see what happened at each stop along the way.

There is a lot more and there is no way to summarize it. Go check it out – I’ll wait for you to get back.

For those of you not familiar with the blogger known as Zombie, he is the guy who had the best coverage of the west coast Occupy movement. He is a conservative who lives and works somewhere in the vicinity of the San Francisco Bay area. In other words, he is a deep-cover operative for the GOP.

His subversive technique is to infiltrate public events disguised as a regular person and armed with a camera. He takes pictures and videos and then publishes them along with a description of his observations. It’s an old-fashioned form of journalism they used to call “reporting”. The idea is to give the reader the facts and let them make up their own minds.

Zombie doesn’t pretend to be neutral. He lets his bias show through, but he lets the pictures and videos do most of the talking.

BTW – Today is Hillary Clinton’s last day as Secretary of State.

Are you sure Zombie is a he? Saw a pix a few years back that seemed to show the reflection of a female holding a camera, but could not be sure. I’m probably wrong again, though. Doesn’t really make any difference. Is a genius either way.

      Zombie:

The whole point behind “flash mobs” is that they are supposed to happen “spontaneously,” or at least “pseudo-spontaneously,” in which several hundred people surreptitiously gather in some crowded downtown location and suddenly erupt into coordinated dancing or whatever, to the utter astonishment of all the shocked squares around them

Don’t forget RPGs! The proof that a protest is spontaneous is if the protestors have RPGs!

    • angienc (D) says:

I’m pretty sure Zombie is a she — posters at PJMedia refer to her as “she” as do others on righty blogs — and they *must* be more familiar with her than we are.
I think she’s great though — usually the writing is funny, I don’t care *where* you stand on the issues.

I am chagrined. I made a sexist assumption. I assumed that Zombie was a guy.

Everyone knows when you make an assumption you make an ass out of you and umption.

I will go sit in the penalty box and feel shame.

        zombietime FAQ:

Q: zombietime doesn’t seem like a blog — it’s more like a collection of photo essays. Don’t you have a real blog?
A: Yes, I now have a blog, called zomblog. The main zombietime page is for large reports containing many photos each; the posts on zomblog are for individual unique photos that don’t fit in to a larger report, or for protests and other events that were so small that I felt they didn’t merit a full-sized zombietime report.

Q: What does the name “zombietime” mean? Does this site have anything to do with zombies?
A: No — you won’t find any information about or photos of zombies anywhere on zombietime. The name “zombietime” doesn’t mean anything at all — it’s just a memorable title I came up with that has no particular significance. It is spelled as a single word, always lower case.

        Q: Who are you?
A: I choose to remain anonymous.

Q: I can’t decipher your politics. Are you left-wing? Right-wing? Conservative? Liberal? Or what? I’m confused.
A: I’m confused too. I’ve stopped believing in the existence of the “left/right dichotomy.” And every existing political label has been rendered meaningless by endless framing, reframing, and counter-reframing by competing political factions. There is no name or category that summarizes my wide-ranging opinions — opinions which, furthermore, are continuously evolving. The zombietime images speak for themselves, and my personal outlook should be irrelevant in any case.

        • Whoever s/he is fully understands and follows the role of news photographer/reporter, which given the politics of the geographic area s/he covers is amazing, IMO. While reading the blog pre-PJM I assumed s/he was male, also, so your three minutes are up. Get back out on the ice.

        • angienc (D) says:

She’s confused too — sounds kind of like me (although I think she started out right & I started out left and we’re meeting in limbo). No wonder I like her stuff.

You don’t see uplifting stories like this every day:

Eddie Cibrian’s ex-wife Brandi Glanville underwent vaginal rejuvenation surgery after the actor left her for singer LeAnn Rimes.

The “CSI: Miami” star’s marriage to Glanville, the mother of his two sons, broke down after he struck up an affair with Rimes on the set of TV movie “Northern Lights” in 2009. Rimes also left her then-husband Dean Sheremet and married Cibrian in 2011.

“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Glanville has now revealed she cheered herself up after the messy split by undergoing an intimate operation, and paying for it on her former partner’s credit card.

In her new tell-all book, “Drinking & Tweeting and other Brandi Blunders,” she writes, “This pretty intense surgery had an even more intense price tag: $12,000. A brand-new vagina would be an Eddie-free vagina. … I decided that since Eddie had ruined my vagina for me, he could pay for a new one. I gave (the doctor’s office) Eddie’s credit card number.”

The Most Ominous Sign Yet Health Insurance Premiums Will Explode

Now comes the most ominous sign yet health insurance premiums are going way up: Most health insurers in the individual market have stopped guaranteeing a person’s premiums for a year. And as one commentator quipped: they aren’t doing it because they expect to be lowering people’s premiums.

    • I had been having a back and forth on FB with a young woman who is very book smart- but an obot. She kept trying to explain how wonderful crapcare is.
Then I put up the numbers just for our household. Premiums up 20% end of 08 and 09. Up 10% more in 2010, 11 and 12. No increase in premiums this year- BUT we went from having a $600 family out of pocket per yr- to a tripling of that- per person this yr. Co-Pays for office visits have gone from $15 in 08 to $25 now. $40 for any doc other than primary. ER from $50 to $150. And it is no longer waived if you are admitted. Prescription costs up across the board. Less coverage. Some things no longer covered. That bone density scan I had to diagnose osteoporosis? NOT covered “free” as oblowme proponents believe. That is only if you are over 65.
She and her kids have state coverage. Guess what her premium and co-pays are?
      Yup- we pay those too.
I do not begrudge anyone health CARE. I hate insurance.
      She shut up.

    • angienc (D) says:

My premiums have gone up 10% a year for the last 3 years for a total of $90 a month. My co-pay has doubled — $25 to $50 for the regular doctors; $50 to $100 for ER.
      It’s all bullshit.

Hillary: No Politics; Just Writing, Speeches After State Department

Retiring Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has finally weighed in on what she will do with her time after she leaves the State Department.

Fans and detractors alike imagine she’ll run for president, but Hillary herself is now saying she’ll just retire to activism, writing, and speech making.

In a recent interview, Clinton claimed that she has “absolutely no plans to run” for president in 2016 and promised that she is “out of politics right now.”

Clinton said she planned to focus on speaking, writing, and working on issues to benefit women and girls. When pressed about why President Obama hasn’t appointed more women to his cabinet, Clinton waved off the criticism, saying, “What we have to do is take a look at the broad picture.”

The former Cabinet Secretary also said she may join her husband’s work at the Clinton Global Initiative.

As to a run for president in 2016, Clinton seemed to say she wasn’t on that track.

In 2000 when she was first running for the Senate seat from New York, Clinton vowed she had no interest in running for president.

Later, during her run for re-election to the Senate, she said she was only interested in serving her second term—not in running for the White House. It wasn’t long before she announced her candidacy for the Democratic primary.

After her defeat at the hands of Barack Obama in 2009, Clinton again demurred from a run for the White House, saying there was “probably close to zero” chance she’d ever run for president again.

Our state is currently debating whether or not insurance should have to pay for abortion. I imagine by the time we’re finished insurance will pay for viagra, plastic surgery, hair replacement, birth control, and abortion. The politically unpopular health care issues, infection, heart medication, blood pressure, diabetes, will not be covered.

My state has a long history of allowing politicians to regulate insurance until you have a completely useless policy that only covers the pet issues of the day. That’s why we always wind up with mandated insurance policies that cover you if an airplane crashes into your house on a Sunday, but not if a tree branch comes through your roof. My mandatory car insurance is kind of fun, the deductible exceeds the value of my car.

I’d say it depends on the situation. I once helped a very drunk and gropey asshole go to “sleep” with a cast iron frying pan. He approached me as I was washing dishes, unfortunately for him I was washing a cast iron frying pan, LOL! Meh, he needed to sleep it off you know.

We were trying to help someone out letting them stay with us, some people can’t be helped. He was shown the door after he came to.

A new series The Americans premiered last night on FX. I’m intrigued enough to watch next week.
    **********************************************

Review: FX’s ‘The Americans’ and The Next Generation of Anti-Heroes
    by Alyssa Rosenberg

[discusses basic premise details of "The Americans"]

In the post-Tony Soprano world, television’s so obsessed with creating successful anti-heroes that it’s corrupted the word beyond its original meaning, applying it to all manner of dark characters. If a hero is someone we want to and should, within the structure of the story, root for, a villain is someone we want to and should root against, and an anti-hero is someone a show succeeds in making you want to root for, even though, by all the conventions of morality, we know we shouldn’t. Characteristically, the way we’ve known we shouldn’t cheer for an anti-hero is because they employ violence, either for reasons we know to be wrong, or to be ridiculous, be it Tony living out the terminal decline of the fantasy that is The Godfather in suburban New Jersey, Omar Little robbing drug dealers in Baltimore (both he and Maurice Levy are absolutely correct about each other), or Walter White cooking meth to live out a fantasy of his own genius and dominance that he failed to achieve in legal life.

Elizabeth Jennings (Kerri Russell), the KGB spy living under cover in the United States of 1980 in the Cold War drama The Americans, which premieres on FX tonight, represents a major break from this anti-hero tradition for two reasons. [....]

‘Justified,’ Guns, And A Taxonomy Of Violence

Last night’s episode of Justified juxtaposed one of the series’ goofier scenes of violence, Marshal Raylan Givens’ duel with aspiring cockfight manager Randall, conducted with fists and a beanbag gun, with one of its most somber, veteran Colton Rhodes’ preparation to kill prostitute Ellen May, who Boyd Crowder had decided was no longer sufficiently loyal to be trusted with the secret of a murder. It was a particularly striking contrast if, like me, you watched the first four episodes of Justified‘s fourth season in a single sitting. The show has always had a complicated attitude towards violence, one embodied in its title, a reference to Raylan’s insistence in the pilot that a shooting in Miami was “justified”: it’s awfully fun to watch Raylan wreak controlled mayhem, but the line between his deployment of it and the violence of Boyd, his opposite number, is fine and constantly shifting. And this season of Justified, whether it’s intentional or no, has been an extended meditation on both the use and abuse of guns—and of all the other ways we can do awful harm to each other.

      • trixta says:

Timely topic. I believe I watched the very first episode or two of Justified (don’t know why I stopped) but the series looks like it’s worth watching.

I’ll bet the Bay Area woman (in the Zombie video above) holding the STOP PATRIARCHY sign voted for Obama. I left the Bay Area two years ago and am happier for it. During the primaries in 2008, with the exception of a foreign grad student from the Czech Republic, I didn’t run across a single person at UCB who supported Hillary — not even in the Gender and Women’s Studies Dept!
