FOX News hates Democrats, right? Wrong!

The Hill:

Report: Obama top recipient of News Corp. donations

Political donations by News Corp., its employees and their families were evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, with President Obama the all-time leading recipient, according to a report from the Sunlight Foundation.

The transparency watchdog noted Tuesday that Democrats received 51 percent of contributions while Republicans received 49 percent, despite the firm’s highly publicized links to the GOP, such as a $1 million donation to the Republican Governors Association in August.

News Corp. is the parent company of The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and Fox News, among others. The firm is currently under scrutiny in both the U.S. and U.K. over allegations its subsidiary News of the World hacked into voice mail accounts and bribed public officials.

“Obama being listed as the company’s top recipient might surprise some people because of its highly publicized involvement with his political rivals, like Sarah Palin who was the vice presidential candidate in 2008 and reportedly still under contract with Murdoch-owned Fox News as a paid commentator,” wrote Sunlight’s Ryan Sibley.

Sibley said News Corp. has spent $8.2 million since 1997 lobbying on issues such as net neutrality and privacy. He also points out the top recipients from the firm’s political action committee, News America Holdings, in the 2009-10 election cycle were Reps. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Howard Berman (D-Calif.) and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).

News Corp owns FOX News. Barack Obama is their all time leading recipient of political donations.

I think my head just exploded.

It doesn’t surpise me a bit. Obama’s been the most successful Republican politician in recent times.

    Jammie Wearing Fool:

Meanwhile, the fabulously wealthy Kerry, who served in Vietnam, is the top political stakeholder in News Corp, with an estimated $600,002 to $1,250,000.

    Granted, that’s his wife’s money.

So, what sin have i committed to warrant moderation this time?

    Media Matters:

If it seems like Obama got a lot of money from News Corp. employees, that’s because he got a lot of money from a lot of people in 2008.

News Corp is an evil plot controlled by hard-core, determined political goals. When facts come out that cast doubt on that “truth”, those particular facts don’t matter and mean nothing.

It is all very easy, myiq, if you would just decide on the truth of their evilness ahead of time, as any sane person would do. Then you don’t ever have to be bothered with re-examining anything ever again, or futz about with those annoying grey areas or cognitive dissonance. Then life is simple. See?

Pick a fucking tribe and stop worrying over this shit, myiq. We insist.

FOX news has some good journalists, some bad ones, and some sensationalistic non-journalist ratings generators.

FOX neither loves nor hates Democrats or Republicans. There was a market for news slanted to the right, since the market for news slanted to the left was already full. So Murdoch saw profit in filling the wide-open market niche.

It really is that simple. No tinfoil hats required.

Makes me smile a little to think Fox News knew Obama was actually a Republican in sheep’s clothing, long before Media Matters or the left blogosphere did.

Wall Street certainly knew it, when they funded him. And they got everything they wanted when he won.

I try to be fair and balanced. 🙄

  7. DeniseVB says:

What’s surprises me, why Obama’s personal war against Fox ? Isn’t he always trying to exclude them from important pressers?

  8. Mr. Mike says:

How many of you work for a company that is at odds with your political philosophy?

All the above proves is that the rank and file at Fox is no different than the political make up of the country and that they feel secure in that their political leanings won’t affect their employment.

I’m sure it’s out there but I’m not going to look for it, but what is the percent of donations pre candidate from the other major media outlets and their employees?

This shows that their PAC also gave a lot to Democrats. It may be a case of hedging their bets. Republicans get more free air time because of Hannity, but Democrats get cash. Look at NBC. Liberals get stroked on MSNBC, but GE is in bed with military contractos the Republicans favor.

    • Lola-at-Large says:

Good points. What gets me when I look at those numbers is how cheap it is to bribe our elected officials. 8.2 million for the last 14 years? Drop in the bucket when you compare it the trillions, not billions, and certainly not millions on offer from the Treasury.
