Thereisnospoon up my ass

Rick and Dick

David “thereisnospoon” Atkins:

Yesterday famed “Christian” pastor Rick Warren, wealthy author and megachurch leader, tweeted the following:

HALF of America pays NO taxes. Zero. So they’re happy for tax rates to be raised on the other half that DOES pay any taxes.

After a firestorm ignited decrying this egregious mix of selfishness and ignorance, Mr. Warren deleted his tweet. But the screenshot is preserved for Internet eternity.

David seems to have forgotten who one of Rick’s best buds is.

BTW – Have you heard about the new (David) Atkins Diet?

Yeah, part of that half of America that pays no taxes, is our mega preachers like you, Rick Warren.

The cry of “tax the rich” is really a farce. Most of the income of the “wealthy” that we are going to raise taxes on, is pretty much tax exempt anyway. It’s the middle class that always gets hit with those “tax increases on the wealthy” because we don’t have enough money to have a charitable foundation or a mega church or an off shore account.

Let’s tax the rich! You however, Boeing, GE, Exxon, Rick Warren, you’re all exempt.

      Sad but true.

We need to simplify the tax code, and get rid of the hundreds of deductions and special loopholes.

You can only do that if you overhaul the whole thing, not just target this or that loophole, because people will fight to preserve THEIR deduction so long as other people get to keep theirs. If the exceptions for EVERYONE go away, you could actually lower rates and still get more revenue. Not to mention you could fire over half the IRS.

      • myiq2xu says:

Think of all the accountants and tax lawyers that would be out of work!

        Oh, the humanity!

      • yttik says:

The problem with closing the loopholes is that loopholes in the Fed tax code are mostly for the working class, the child tax credit, the mortgage interest credit, the home office deduction. Big corporations pretty much have their “loop holes” taken care of long before they even get to a tax form.

        • WMCB says:

There are ways to do it that don’t cost the middle class more. That’s why I said get rid of all the deductions but lower the rate.

I think there would be less cheating, and certainly less room for govt corruption and bureaucracy and special treatment for this or that group, if you made the tax code very very very simple.

The loopholes are there for Congress to do social engineering. That and to buy favors.

Honk! Mega-churches don’t pay taxes. GE & a bunch of other corporate “persons” doesn’t pay taxes.

    • The cry of “tax the rich” is really a farce.

“Tax the rich” becomes “Tax the middle class.”
“Cut spending” becomes “Screw the middle class (and poor).”

We might try electing the people with good records: Clintons, Gore, Palin….

Actually, I agree with the idea that everyone except the very poorest of the poor should pay SOME federal income taxes. It’s a matter of skin in the game. It makes people pay attention.

I don’t care if it’s a nominal 10 bucks, EVERYONE should pay something.

    • myiq2xu says:

      EVERYONE should pay something.

I agree, I just thought it was really amusing that a rabid Obot would attack Dick’s new spiritual advisor.

      BTW – I pay attention

      • WMCB says:

All of us here pay attention. 🙂 Yeah, it’s under the bus time for a lot of people. I’m sure Bernie Sanders is under the bus now too – though Bernie is the same person he always was.

Bernie is way further left than I am, but I have great respect for him and listen to him, because he’s an honest man who has actual principles and tries to tell the truth. Guys (or women) like that need to stick around in Congress, whether I agree with them or not.

        • Karma says:

I was think the same thing about Sanders his upcoming bus ride. And was wondering how exactly they would attempt to smear a man who has stayed true to his principles.

During the primary when the Obama campaign was throwing everyone including Grandma under the bus, that Wendy O. Williams/Plasmatics video “The Damned” kept coming to mind.

The finishing scene is of her on top of the bus while it plows into a wall of tvs and explodes….last shot Wendy O walks away from the burning debris.

        • “And was wondering how exactly they would attempt to smear a man who has stayed true to his principles.”

          Sex scandals are often used.

    • “I don’t care if it’s a nominal 10 bucks, EVERYONE should pay something.”

How much does it cost the government to process that tax form? (Hint: around $35 a few years ago.) How much time and headache and anxiety for the poor taxpayer to prepare it?

  4. glennmcgahee says:

Was it my imagination or did Obama bring up the corporate jet thing again just for a sec. It seems he did and then thought I better add something else to that one. I’ve beat it to death. But what do you call a jet thats owned by one of those megachurches? A flying Jesus?

  5. yttik says:

Poor people really do pay taxes. I don’t believe that nonsense Warren is carrying on about how half of America doesn’t pay taxes. Even the dirt poor are paying sales tax, gas tax, telephone tax, cable tax, FCC tax, liquor tax, car tabs tax, bottled water tax, candy bar tax, utilities tax, sewer tax, etc, etc. You really can’t do anything or access any service in this country without paying taxes.

If you’re employed, you’re paying SS, medi, L& I, unemployment taxes before you even get your paycheck.

    • Three Wickets says:

Yes absolutely. But if you’re Rick Warren and you’re hanging with your Orange County congregation and peeps most of the time, you’re going to conveniently forget that. BO moved up the social ladder from Reverend Wright to Reverend Warren with his election.

  6. WMCB says:

The most transparent president evah’s press secretary gets miffy and accusatory when asked for some substance, according to Twitter:

Chuck Todd: “Release your plan” Jay Carney: “We’ve shown a lot of leg” Todd: “Why not just release it?” Carney: “You need it written down?”

Carney called Chuck Todd’s (!) request to see Obama’s specific plan “a Republican talking point.”#trainwreck
