Jim Geraghty:

New Poll Puts Cain Ahead of Obama

I’m not terribly familiar with this firm, Poll Position, and they’re using automated voice survey techology (robo-pollsters, like Rasmussen) but their new survey result is worth mentioning because of the tidal shift it might represent: Herman Cain beating Barack Obama in a head-to-head matchup.

Yes, that Herman Cain, the widely-liked former pizza executive who most folks didn’t take seriously because he had never been elected to any public office before.

They find Cain with 43.3 percent and Obama with 41.3 percent. In their results, Cain takes 24 percent of the African-American vote.

24 percent of the African-American vote is nearly two and a half times what a Republican would normally receive. If this poll is accurate then Obama could be in deep trouble.

If Cain is the GOP nominee he will effectively neutralize the race card – Obama’s strongest weapon.

I predict an all-out offensive (and it will be very offensive) against Cain in the next few weeks. If there is any dirt under his rug or any skeletons in his closet we’re going to find out more than we ever wanted to know about them.

Second prediction – African-American members of the media will get unprecedented air time as they get the assignment of chopping down Cain. Obamanation can’t let the white guys do it because that might spark a backlash.

Stock up on popcorn. It’s about to get ugly.

Kira Davis is one of many black moderates and conservatives and libertarians swarming ALL OVER Twitter and pushing back against the race-baiting. I’ve been following it, and it’s astounding. They are coming out of the damn woodwork. I don’t think that the same old same old race shaming is working as well on non-groupthink blacks as it used to. The race baiters may bite off more than they can chew if they go after Cain in as ugly a fashion as they seem wont to do. Be careful what you wish for.

Here’s one of her blog posts: Lawrence O’Donnell is a Tool

You did not have the decency or intellectual fortitude to stop Oldies but Goodies hit parade there. Straight from top of the charts, 1992-style – race! Before there was Andrew Breitbart and internet domination by conservative pundits, tools like you could get away with pseudo-journalism disguised as race baiting. You- rich, White guy- have the nerve to try to paint Herman Cain as a racist (you know he’s Black, right?) because he chose to be in school instead of giving up his soap bar and toothbrush to sit in college offices and public parks as a “protester” during the civil rights movement.

Excuse me, Tool Hand Luke, but for Black people, education is one of the most important and coveted privileges we have. Black families all over America sacrifice every day to make sure their children can attend college. For many who live in the inner city, college is that last hope of escaping the ghetto life. Many Black people feel an almost desperate need to see their children through higher education, as a direct result of what our community has suffered in the history of this country. That’s what Herman Cain was doing during the civil rights movement. He was doing what every other Black parent in America at that time and even today asked their child to do – get an education and break out of the lower class lifestyle Blacks had traditionally been relegated to. Your arrogance in suggesting Cain was somehow “selling out” for choosing education over public protests is astounding. As if that is the measure of a human being! I guess rich, privileged White guys like you don’t understand what its like to scrape and work for every advancement in your life.

Here’s a suggestion for you to add to your Toolbag: until you’re willing to give up every comfort in your life to go protest on behalf of disadvantaged minorities across the country, shut up about others doing the same.

I get the feeling Bill Clinton may be requested to do some of the party’s dirty work. Cain put a serious dent in Clinton’s health care plans and there may be some payback coming.

    • WMCB says:

I’m not so sure about that. Whatever Cain’s transgressions during the 90’s HC debate, I don’t think Bill is going to wade into anything racial or touch it with a ten foot pole.

    • yttik says:

I’ve been thinking the same thing, Days. I adore Bill Clinton, but Cain kicked his butt in a health care debate and I wouldn’t be surprised if Clinton wanted payback.

      • Dario says:

Obama’s surrogates used the race card on him and Bill put it aside for Hillary’s sake, but I don’t believe Bill will do much to support Obama. Obama is on his own. He has burned so many bridges, nobody is going to do much to save his ass.

  6. Who has the popcorn concession? If the R’s run Cain either spot on the ticket it will be the last nail!
What will team Axelpoof do if the number one weapon in their arsenal is neutralized?
I would buy tickets to see their heads explode!

    • WMCB says:

I’m an evil capitalist, so I’m buying popcorn futures as I type. Hey, if it’s all going to be ugly and fucked up, I might as well make a buck on it.

      😀

      • Cut me in! I have the proper food safety certifications! ROFL!

        • WMCB says:

We’ll corner the market and then distribute ourselves! Wanna be an evil capitalist like me, or a slightly shady subsidiary?

Once we corner the market, we’ll do a huge ad campaign promising that our corporation never gives a dime to any fucking politician or any wanking lobbyist, and never will. Sales will skyrocket. 😀

Your second prediction has already come to pass — both Harry Belafonte & Cornell West were bashing Cain today.

  8. Dario says:

Gallup poll has Romney at 20%, Cain at 18% and Perry at 15%
I bet the polls also looked at the different G.O.P. candidates vs Obama, but Gallup is not disclosing that information. The poll was taken from October 3-7
