Hicks for Elizabeth!

Seriously:

“I’m a new category, an elite hick,” said Warren, on the “Left Ahead” podcast. “I don’t even know what to say about that one,” she said, laughing.

Hot Mike Ball then came back to the word “hick,” saying he had been called that in his lifetime too.

“If you’re going to be in the Senate, and we would like you to, as a fellow person who was born in Oklahoma and raised in West Virginia, I’ve been called a hick myself a lot. I’ve got to say I’d love to see you in office,” said Ball.

“I’m going for the hick vote here,” Warren answered. “I just want you to know. Maybe we could start wearing stickers that say ‘Hicks for Elizabeth’ – could we do that?” she asked.

Works for me. I’m 1/2 Okie myself.

  1. OOOHH. A little shout out to we bitter clinger hicks? Nice.

LOL, my husband’s from MA where he remembers being called a hick meant “stupid, clueless, idiot”.

Good luck with that Elizabeth !

I hope she wins, but I don’t care enough to donate at this point.

Not sure if that’s great campaigning strategy here in MA, though. There was a line from the West Wing when Bartlett was trying to be “the guy you’d like to have a beer with” and it wasn’t working. I think it was Toby who said something like “When you’re smart, that’s what you run with”. No one here is going to buy that Elizabeth Warren, Harvard professor, is a “hick”, and pointing out that she’s not a native New Englander is not a plus. Better to be from the People’s Republic of Cambridge than “from away”. She’s not going to “out-truck” Scott Brown, and it hurts to watch her try. She should be running on “I’m smarter than he is, and Washington could use more smart.” Maybe we keep electing John Kerry, but we also elected Dukakis.

I think it is more along the lines of not being the type of intellectual snob who is embarrassed by their hick past or refuses to see those problems as legitimate. Rather than an attempt to out-truck Brown.

Lots of politicians can claim they are for the unwashed masses but she has a record of fighting the good fight. I don’t know enough about Brown to really comment on his record, but it always seemed moderate, almost status quo. While Warren still seems to be fighting for the masses with every moment of the day.

Brown might have to out-truck himself this time if MA figures out she is the real deal.

Here is hoping the gender thing isn’t an issue either, but my tinfoil Tuesday thought suspects TPTB wouldn’t want her any where near DC again. So it will be interesting to see if they try and kneecap her like they did Hillary.

It don’t take much to bring out your inner redneck, does it?

    This hick is for Elisabeth.

I think I’m a third-generation hick. My mom’s longtime foster parents in California were Okies, and she ended up raising us in the redneckiest part of Michigan you can possibly imagine. Kept the tradition going by marrying a French hick. : )
