Why anarchy doesn’t work

Hot Air:

Occupy Wall Street protesters said yesterday that packs of brazen crooks within their ranks have been robbing their fellow demonstrators blind, making off with pricey cameras, phones and laptops — and even a hefty bundle of donated cash and food.

“Stealing is our biggest problem at the moment,” said Nan Terrie, 18, a kitchen and legal-team volunteer from Fort Lauderdale.

“I had my Mac stolen — that was like $5,500. Every night, something else is gone. Last night, our entire [kitchen] budget for the day was stolen, so the first thing I had to do was . . . get the message out to our supporters that we needed food!”

Crafty cat burglars sneaked into the makeshift kitchen at Zuccotti Park overnight and swiped as much as $2,500 in donated greenbacks from right under the noses of volunteers who’d fallen asleep after a long day whipping up meals for the hundreds of hungry protesters, the volunteers said.

Who’d have thought that a crowd of people demanding the seizure of wealth from banks, corporations, and the wealthy might also have a few thieves? I’m shocked, shocked to find theft occurring in a group that has hijacked private property it refuses to leave. I can’t imagine that a crowd that demands free higher education and the forgiveness of tens of thousands in student debt would also think of someone’s Mac or an iPhone as equally as communal as a college education.

If you think it’s okay to take from others because they have more than you, then you must think it’s okay for people who have less than you to take your shit too.

Is that anarchy or freelance marxism?

I didn’t know Joseph Cannon was a Beckistani.

“Hive mind” means she didn’t get to do all the talking, with others listening adoringly.

If she’s the queen of the HIVE, she’s cool with it.

Please. Easy to discern. Due respect.

I said this below, but I’m bringing it up here too, because it fits:

Re: the police video, the comments on the youtube are just sickening. We have a country full of angry young dudebros who want to smash it all to pieces and then have “the people” (i.e. them and their thug compatriots) rule the world in some little Lord of the Flies commu/anarchist fantasy.

You know why I like a Republic and the rule of constitutional law rather than mob majority rule aka direct democracy – that MANY of the left are now calling for? Shit like that is why. I have no illusions about the ability to live in peace harmony and love of most of the human race, or any confidence at all in what a majority will do once they decide that there are no rules except “Do enough of us want it?”.

If believing with all my heart and brain in the wisdom and balance and efficacy of our Constitution, and the protections of our form of govt, now makes me a winger ratfucker and teapartier, then think whatever you want. But it is what I have ALWAYS believed, and what Liberals have traditionally believed.

The fact that a large portion of the left have seemingly decided that unless you want to be a batshit crazy revolutionary remaking the entire system, or at least support them, then you aren’t “on the side of the people” is their delusion, not mine.

Quite a few of you are probably bursting at the seams right now, desperate to tell me: “But this movement isn’t about partisan politics! It’s about raising consciousness and awareness and establishing a New Age and heralding a We Century and proving how virtuous we can be by eating lots of tofu!”

If you want to give me that rap, please…just die. Preferably in pain. I want no part of a “consciousness raising” exercise, and I don’t care for tofu.

    LOL!

They are the ones they have been waiting for. I never figured out the part about if they are the ones why have they been waiting for themselves.

I zipped over to The Confluence and read about Riverdaughter’s concerns. I think you may be toldjasoing too soon yet, though events could prove you correct.

If I understand Riverdaughter correctly, she suggests ways the OWSers could contain or at least ghettoize the veganazis and keep them from scent-marking the assembly-movement. Hopefully the OWSer majority will see things that way and will smother the emergent
veganazism under a beautifully scented wet blanket of polite distaste.

      *snerk*

I prefer to contain veganazis by eating a blood-dripping rare steak right in front of them and telling them to mind their own fucking business, authoritarian little busybody do-gooders.

Normal vegans, as a few of my friends are, I am quite polite to, and make sure they have something to eat if they come to my home. 😀

      • r u reddy says:

Well, that’s a distinction I need to remind myself of, sometimes. Yes, some of the nicest people are vegans.

Sometimes I visit relatives in Saratoga Springs, New York. There is a health-food store there with a legacy-hippie-co-op feel to it called the Four Seasons. They have a little restaurant-cafe division with strictly vegan food. But even though it is vegan, it is good enough to eat. In fact, it is good enough to pay for.

Relax, they’re just redistributing the wealth. Freelance marxism, indeed.
