VP Biden Wishes Opponents of More Police Funding Had Some Notion of What It’s Like to Have a 200-Pound Man Standing Over Them Telling Them to Submit

President Obama’s $447 billion jobs bill would provide roughly $30 billion in aid to state and local governments to help retain about 400,000 teachers at risk of being fired because of budget cuts, and an additional $5 billion to help local governments keep about 18,000 police officers and 7,000 firefighters on the job. For that reason, President Obama has spent much of his bus tour this week visiting schools and communities colleges, and Wednesday afternoon he will make remarks at Fire Station No. 9 here in North Chesterfield, Virginia.

Vice President Biden — who in the Senate in 1994 authored the COPS bill providing funding for 88,000 additional police officers – has been making the case as well, in his somewhat more passionate style.

In Philadelphia on Tuesday, standing with Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey and other officers at Houston Hall at the University of Pennsylvania, the vice president said that one argument he’s “heard from my friends who oppose” the jobs bill is that “this is just temporary.”

“Well let me tell you, it’s not temporary when that 911 call comes in and a woman’s being raped if a cop shows up in time to prevent the rape,” he continued. “It’s not temporary to that woman.

“It’s not temporary to the guy whose store is being held up and a gun is being pointed to his head,” he continued, “if a cop shows up and he’s not killed, that’s not temporary to that store owner.

“Give me a break, ‘temporary’!” the Veep said. “I wish these guys that thought it’s temporary, I wish they had some notion what it’s like to be on the other side of a gun. Or a 200 pound man standing over you telling you to submit. Folks, it matters. It matters!”

I really hate the heavy-handed way the Democrats are trying to turn everything into a bright-line moral choice. Now Obama’s $447 billion “jobs” bill is a critical rape-prevention issue?

Gimme a break.

Demonizing is all they’ve got left. And it’s silly on its face, and most of the country knows that.

Whatever my disagreements with republicans, the democrats would have me believe that half this country:

    1) hates the poor and could care less if they all die
    2) wants anarchy with no govt services at all
    3) are greedy greedy greedsters with zero care for anyone’s wallet but theirs
    4) wants to shove granny off a cliff
    5) will blithely file their nails as women are raped and brutalized for lack of a single police officer anywhere
    6) could care less if corporations break the law and rip off the entire country – as a matter of fact they LOVE it, as all conservatives are filthy rich (even though the top 5% actually votes democrat).

It’s just parody at this point.

Pretty good piece on how the 999 thing is different from a VAT, which most of Europe has. I’m not in support of the 999 plan as a whole (I think it has problems.) But I am very much in support of a simple tax code that keeps it all visible and transparent, with no loopholes. I think the conversation needs to be had.

Honk! – it’s what the first ‘stimulus’ was all about – and why the Repubs went off the reservation.

      Uniter my ass.

Amen, votermom! I think we ALL know who’s gonna be at the head of the line for parceling out that $35 billion they want in more state aid for “teachers, policemen, and firemen:” the very states Barak Obama needs for his re-election.

      What utter horseshit.

Yep, that’s pretty bad. But the stuff of real nightmares is having a 200 pound talking donkey standing over you telling you to submit.
