Slow News Saturday Open Thread

The news is slow today so I’m gonna rent a movie. I’ve been waiting for the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie (On Stranger Tides) since I first heard about it.

I first read the book on which it was based (by Tim Powers) several years ago. Pirates, voodoo and the Fountain of Youth all in one story.

I hope the movie is half as good as the book.

What are you doing tonight?

I made a flippant comment about her case yesterday myself, but I’m really kinda steamed for her. I bet there are thousands of dudes there who have abandoned their families at some point, and many who abandoned them to participate on OWS. Why aren’t THEY in the news?

A tea partier spends quality time with owsers and doesn’t find them so crazy !?

Many of these protesters are incoherent, and many of them are radical socialists, but a very large number are reasonable and well-spoken. These protesters are upset with the very same things as those of us in the Tea Party are, and they do not see the Tea Party as the enemy; in fact, many of the protesters claimed to support Tea Party efforts, saying that all they want is for the government to leave them alone and to abide by the Constitution as it was written. That should sound familiar to any member of the Tea Party.

Shhhhhh, this may upset other bloggers 😉

Helping my daughter finish an art school application and keeping an ear on a buncha fifth graders at an (ill advised) sleep-over.

Lovin the Selena videos. Her killing was so sad I couldnt bring myself to watch her videos back when it happened (I had never heard of her then) so I never know how sweet and talented she was. What a terrible thing.

I dont think it’s sexist. “I hope she takes her time” come on that’s really sweet.

Helping 12 yr old daughter plan her 1st major school project, this one on ancient Greece. She’s so creative and brilliant, sometimes I can’t believe I helped make her. Have a good night, everyone!

I’m hiding in my bedroom at the in-laws while everybody else watches the rugby world cup finals. They put the baby into the playpen (CHILD ABUSE!!!!) and she is perfectly happy unless she can see me, because she knows that I am a sucker. We’re visiting because it’s the beginning of the first long school vacation of the year (Toussaint–All Saints’ Day, which they celebrate by giving the kids ten days off from school) and there is a wonderful custom here by which grandma and grandpa take your kids off your hands for THE WHOLE HOLIDAY. So we are here dropping them off. They are super excited because their cousins will be here too. I was very judgey of my BIL always “dumping his kids” with grandma and grandpa until we actually moved here and learned that (at least in this family) it’s not actually optional.

Aaand now everybody is screaming. Sounds like France scored.
