PS: This blog and its commenters rock. I’ve had a great time here these last few months, and I don’t feel so crazy-alone anymore. 🙂

I’m twiddling my thumbs. Ouch, I think I sprained one. Oh no, and the other one tripped. Clearly I haven’t had enough to drink yet.

I am now 100% for vouchers.
My brat came home 2 months ago and needed to learn her address and phone numbers. She messed up the address as it was 4 numbers and I had tried to teach it to as 40–29 rather than 4-0-2-9. My mistake she had the street/phone/ zip code correct. She got a big red X. No worries I punish the kid enough with ballet and swim to be sure she knows where she begins.
Anyhow day after she screwed up address I went to the dollar store and bought rolls of that brown packing paper. Spent an hour with brat creating a play about our address using the main street as a sort of family tree. Three acts simple story about branching out but still being connected. Performed it taped it but no way my baby girl does not know her address. Yet her report card read some silly initials saying she didn’t.
Hell hath no more questions than a great gay uncle. Teacher informed me that it was what I filled out two months ago on a homework sheet and she just transferred the data. REALLY? Way to start off a kids education. Questioned her and she told me other kids less fortunate need more attention. WTF??????? All for helping out those in need but that is not what school is about.Looking at charter and private.

When you declare yourself to be a leftist/progressive/liberal you are given two lists – one list of things you’re supposed to be in favor of and another you are supposed to oppose.

Vouchers is one of the things you’re supposed to oppose.

Why? Mainly because Republicans are in favor of them.

Piss poor education is all I see no Ds or Rs. When did our schools assume the responsibility of raising our children. I have busted my sorry ass since my crud was little to educate her. She spoke her first word and we were off to the races. I will not let her be “left behind” so another kid whose parent didn’t do the work.
        Hell no
Conflict is socialization, I want her to be at home so do I call in old favors and get her into an elite Catholic school or bite my tongue and let her potential slip away

My kids go to a charter school. Back when I picked that school I was a self-identified Dem but that didn’t stop me from picking the best school available for my kids. The Catholic school was also an option.Sorry if I care more about my kids education than party agenda. LOL.

Timothy, there are good charter school & bad ones – just do your research. Ditto good & bad Catholic schools. Good luck & your kid is lucky to have such a fierce uncle!

I never thought much about race pre 2008. maybe I was a closet racist(snark) but now I see it everywhere and especially in commercials were the white guy is the dork and the black guy is ultra-cool. I watch the nightly news and 2 of 4 are black and not one Hispanic, There are more legal Hispanics in the USA than blacks and yet crickets from the affirmative action ACLU.
Honestly I grew up in a steel town and attended Temple in North Philly and Hunter in Manhattan– knew people had different stories, but I never looked at someone as “black”. Shared apartments, taxis . jobs. beds.
Never any different than eye color. Hate myself because I see it everywhere.
