Court giggling! President Obama and first lady Michelle laugh their way through basketball game after he takes daughters shopping for books

President Obama took wife Michelle had their daughters to the basketball on Saturday – and appeared to have a whale of a time.

The first family flew from the White House in Marine One to Towson University in Maryland after buying books at a small DC book store in support of Small Business Saturday.

They watched a NCAA basketball game between Oregon State Beavers and Towson Tigers. Malia and Sasha sat a few rows behind as the President and his wife had a front row seat for the game.

The Obamas appeared relaxed and happy with Mr and Mrs laughing constantly through the game, except when he paused from the giggles to have a hot dog.

This another one of the “regular folks” stories we’ve been seeing lately – the ones intended to make us think that Barack and Michelle are just like us. But they’re not, no POTUS and FLOTUS can be.

It’s the reality of the world we live in that the President of the United States has to travel with an entourage of aides and security. That involves multiple vehicles, police escorts, traffic disruptions and financial costs. The First Lady needs nearly as much security as her husband.

When I first became a father it was a shock how much a baby changes your life – you can’t just run to the store anymore, you have to wait until the baby wakes up, change his diaper, make a bottle, get the car seat in the car, get the baby in the car seat, etc., etc. Even when you find a sitter you still have to plan a simple evening out for dinner and a movie.

Being POTUS comes with some privileges, but it should include some sacrifices too. Going to sporting events, nights out on the town and Broadway plays are things a POTUS should have to give up while they have the job.

It’s too expensive and disruptive.

  1. The Obama’s seem to do this sort of thing more than any I can remember. Why it’s as if he doesn’t really have a job and is simply an empty suit puppet of Wall Street.

Wouldn’t this have been a good thing for OWS to protest. Oh wait, no sports is something the bros like, so they wouldn’t, would they.

While I don’t begrudge a President his downtime and vacations, the Obama’s seem to make it a priority.

It’s the hypocrisy too. They use the word “disruptive” for events and visits they don’t want to attend…..like going home to their Chicago house for a long weekend or holiday because “we’d disrupt our neighbors’ lives”.

We all know they use “official visits” to pay for fundraising attendance. BO gives a 10 minute Jobs, Jobs, Jobs speech, MO does jumping jacks with schoolchildren ….. and that covers the expense of flying around the country in their personal Winnebago (aka AF Won).

Downstairs, I used the example of Christie paying NJ for his use of the state chopper to attend his son’s champtionship ball game. When I saw the UK article, I wondered if anyone would fuss over the Obamas’ little Marine One jaunt over to Maryland, cost of security AND inconvenience to the fans getting to the game ?

The president lives in a 5-star luxury hotel with top chefs, a movie theater that shows 1st run movies, a bowling alley and a gym. He has his own private resort at Camp David.

That’s not even considered vacation time.

Interesting how the Obama’s don’t mind “disrupting” local DC sporting and cultural events, but rarely attend church because it is too “disruptive”.

Michelle Obama’s brother, Craig Robinson, is the coach for the Oregon State Beavers basketball team.

“Catching an Oregon State game has become a post-Thanksgiving tradition for the Obamas. Last year, Robinson and the Beavers came to Washington and defeated Howard. The year before that, Oregon State traveled east and scored a win against George Washington.

Actor Bill Murray, whose son, Luke, is an assistant coach at Towson, also attended the game and spent several minutes talking with the Obamas. He sat in the third row of the bleachers and posed for pictures with several fans.”

President Obama frequently attends Georgetown U basketball games.

You can tell it is for publicity because they sat in the front row not the kids. They have to be the center of attention. Mugging for the camera and the girls have that sullen teenager look indicating they do not give a crap. As the girls get older they are going to be harder to control and I am rooting for them to escape of the spotlight

I wonder if it is a complement when they show up for these events like everyday people at venues like Towson’s.. It is like saying Towson is so ordinary, it will do for our everyday folks photo op. In other words, this is where the poor and dumb people go.

    {BTW, Towson is not so bad, they did offer me a job on the spot, very unusual, which I politely refused.}

Is that a reduced fat hot dog in a high fiber roll?
