It’s Boxing Day!

Today is the day we put our Christmas gifts back in their boxes and return them to the store to exchange them for stuff we really want. Then we come home and eat leftovers. Boxing Day is not an official holiday in the United States (yet) but it is usually one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Besides people returning and exchanging presents there are millions of gift certificates to be redeemed and there will be crowds of cheapskates bargain hunters searching for after-Christmas specials.

Today is a lot more fun than New Years Day. January 1st is the day everybody tries to start dieting, quit drinking and begin following all those self-improvement resolutions they made. It’s the most miserable day of the year.

Oh yeah, today is also THE LAST MONDAY OF THE YEAR!!!

Said “Mrs. Obama” when asked by a caller what she wanted for Christmas:

Oh, my goodness. I have what I wanted for Christmas: the President is here with us, and we’re all together as a family. I think we were all praying and praying, and asking Santa, and the Tooth Fairy, and every fairy that they could think of — that’s what Malia and Sasha were doing — that he would be able to be with us on Christmas.

With so many people unable to share Christmas as a family for so many reasons other than being President(!), that remark is just incomprehensibly … off.

Being among the most privileged families – in the World! – those “squatters” (h/t PMM 🙂 ) in The White House never seem to hesitate to expose their astounding sense of entitlement.

(Sorry for the rant, but taking my cue from the cartoon “The real reason its called Boxing Day” 👿 )

I am contemplating the epic pile of dirty drinking, eating, and cooking implements sitting on every surface of my kitchen, dining room, den, and patio. Next year will be take out, paper plates, eating with their hands and they can drink out of the water hose in the yard. God forbid if someone put a damn spoon in the dishwasher.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/solyndra-politics-infused-obama-energy-programs/2011/12/14/gIQA4HllHP_story.html?hpid=z1 On Christmas day the WaPo tried to hide the most obvious duh story of the year. It did not work and the comments have exploded. The Wapo has determined that the WH may not care about laid off workers, that bureaucrats and even some cronies brought in to grease the skids thought Solyndra might be a tat dicey, Obama and VP Plugs like cheesy fake photo-ops, and that George Kaiser is a big fat liar, fraud, and tax cheat who likes to “visit” with the prez after “bundling” (called pay to play in Chicago) at parties given by the rich and crooked.

Paper plates and plastic cups are the way to go if you have people over who you can’t yell at for not loading the dishwasher.

      • DeniseVB says:

Chinet (my fine china of choice) comes in lovely holiday colors and patterns so I always stock up in a variety of sizes and I’m set for the season of love and joy 😀 Even the little plastic cups come in colors now. So festive I am.

the only way to go.

        • elliesmom says:

I always take out the fine china for Christmas, but this year I found square paper plates and stuff to match. Even the cups were square. I swear the family thought the day was more “festive”. Made pizza on stones that it’s a sin to wash with soap. Just a couple of big trash bags which my SIL took to dispose of because we pay for trash pick up by the bag, and they don’t. While I’m tired today, a quick vacuum of the rug, and I was done. Got a Roku from the Ellie for Christmas so she can watch Lassie on Netflicks. We’re chillin’.

Pizza comes in a box. When you’re finished, throw the box away. No plates or silverware needed.

If pizza came in an edible box it would be nature’s perfect food.

    Wouldn’t that make a beautiful new administration Hil-Pres, Sara-VP, Michele-SOS 😀

More on the Virginia Primary kerfuffle…..

    http://moelane.com/2011/12/26/did-the-va-gop-change-the-rules-on-primary-ballot-access-in-november-2011/

Starting to sound like the GOP is just as corrupt as the DNC or vice versa. Funny, found out Mitt’s campaign chairman is also the Va state GOP chair.

    • yttik says:

Yep, the Republican party in each state has it’s own version of the infamously corrupt Dem rules and bylaws committee. Rules and polices are set by the parties and may be changed at any time. It’s so unpredictable, somebody like Obama could NOT even be on the ballot in Michigan but he could still get delegates from that state….wait, that’s a true story that already happened.

Somebody in the Republican party wanted to make sure only Mitt and Paul were on the Virginia ballot. The two parties do things like this to independent and third party candidates all the time, hence the lawsuit in Virginia.

  6. Swannie says:

I have yet to be able to deal with a hypocrite about to embark on a 4 million dollar taxpayer supported vacation ; explaining what 40 dollars means to ” the average American” , because it is obviously chump change to him and his family.

    • yttik says:

To add insult to injury, the payroll tax cut is barely 3% and is only a reduction of an employee’s share of SS. So in order to get that 40 bucks a week, your “average American” would have to be earning somewhere around 80 grand a year. The rest of us see about six bucks.

    • swannie1 says:

Isn’t that part of the Obama election magic ? Run against me and all your divorce files magically open …

      • 1539days says:

Except Gingrich isn’t running against Obama. It’s more like the way is being cleared for Romney.

        • DandyTiger says:

Really the same party machine apparatus. Get in the way of wall street, banks, and big oil (which own the two party machines), and this is what you get. Crony capitalism and corrupt politics at its best.

    • DandyTiger says:

I’m shocked, shocked I tell you. As I am with VA working out the way it did. Ain’t politics grand.
