Cootie Politics: From “bitter clinger” to plain ole “dumb”

Newsweek descends into self-parody

Professional dirt-bag Andrew Sullivan takes the Democratic attack meme that voters are too stupid to appreciate Obama, which Michelle Obama translated as “they don’t know … people are confused”, and distills it into it’s essence: “Obama critics are dumb”.

I think our brilliant readers are right to call this The Cootie Theory of Politics.* When you stand for nothing and have nothing to campaign on or for, just convince the voters that the other side has cooties.

Sarah Palin points out the sliminess of Newseek’s writer source in a tweet:

@Newsweek: know what’s truly “dumb”? Giving a cover story to the TrigTruther conspiracy kook writer who thinks I didn’t give birth to my son

Any guesses on what Newsweek’s next cover will be?
Maybe “Your mama is trash if you don’t vote Obama.”

Since it’s Tuesday, feel free to share your latest tin-foil theory.

From the comments at the Beast:

Andrew: PJ Fusco On The News ripped you a new one. He said you missed something so obvious in your own conclusion it’s “incredible.” You wrote that if Obama is so incompetent “how could he be a threat to anyone?” Fusco replied, “Incompetence at the level of the President of the United States of America is inherently dangerous thus a threat of the greatest importance to every human being in the country, if not the world. A six year old is harmless on his tricycle, but behind the wheel of a car he’s a menace.” The title of his article is “Andrew Sullivan, Bald, Bearded, British and Boneheaded.” He’s spot on.

  2. kc says:

well–screw Andrew Sullivan. He certainly hasn’t displayed brilliance to me and I’m guessing that Newsweek is being outrageous to sell more crap because being logical isn’t working for them.

  3. yttik says:

Andrew Sullivan is so confused. I mean, he’s a gay Catholic conservative Obama supporting, non US citizen, (therefore no voting rights,) and a so called expert on US elections. I don’t even know where to begin, but for starters, how come so many non citizens, so many non voters, are so often held up as experts on our system and given all this voice and influence over our elections? After a few years of Sully’s Trig birther nonsense, I’m ready not only for him to STFU, but to be deported back to the wilds of England. Don’t we have enough nutcases in our own country?

Canada actually has some interesting laws against non citizens attempting to influence their elections. I’m starting to think they have the right idea.

  4. Lulu says:
“He (Sullivan) knows this because Obama calms his untamed, erotic, neurotic feelings. All adolescents in the throes of a crush think they’ve found the answer if only everyone else could see it. Barry is Andy’s dream date.”
After reading JWS I feel kind of embarrassed for Sullivan. NOT.

  5. driguana says:

Another stellar example of the despicable scoundrels behind the viral lying syndrome. Sullivan is one of the worst. I would say that anyone who does NOT criticize Obama is dumb! I like The Beast comments above….at this point in our tragic descent into mediocrity, Obama is dangerous for the Country……where is our pride, unity, cooperation and leadership???? Funny, didn’t Obama recently acknowledge these very principles during Kwaanza?

  6. Lola-at-Large says:

I wish I could like this 1,000 times. Spot on.

That said, keep in mind that Newsweek was bought a few years ago by none other than Jane Harmon’s husband. It’s now the Official Publication of OFA. And it’s obvious to me. Sadly, a lot of the traditional middle of the road readers haven’t seen the trajectory change and won’t for some time.

    • Lola-at-Large says:

That would be Democratic Representative Jane Harmon (until last year) of California. And she and her husband are California Crazy with their politics.

    • Three Wickets says:

Right. Sidney Harman sold Newsweek to Tina Brown and Barry Diller, then he died. Barry Diller has locked in another $5 billion contract with Google, so NewsBeast will keep churning for Tina and IAC and Google and OFA even while losing money.

Expat Andrew Sullivan has an psychotic obsession with Sarah Palin’s womb, and he has an embarrasing school girl crush on Barack Obama. Why do people still pay attention to him. He’s mental.

  7. Lola-at-Large says:

LOL. Totally forgot to add that I love your ending here. I can totally see some variation of “And your momma too!” coming from this president’s supporters.

  8. Three Wickets says:

Your mama is trash if you don’t vote Obama.

That might be an improvement from OFA’s 2008 campaign strategy: “You’re racist if you don’t vote Obama” and it looks like they’re going with the same script for 2012. They are dumb as bricks, these OFA guys. If they didn’t have their precious race card, that would be apparent to everyone.

  9. votermom says:

    This made me LOL

Btw, the SOPA blackout protest is tomorrow – I don’t know if that will affect wp blogs.

  11. angienc says:

    Poor Andrew — still projecting.
Unfortunately for us, I keep feeling the fix is in — all the stops are going to be pulled out, even worse & more vicious then in 2008 & Obama is going to be given a second term (the same way he was given the Dem. nomination). Three years of total incompetence by Obama proving us all right in our initial criticism of him & we’re still howling in the wilderness.

BO’s going to Disney World ! Well, to give an important speech on tourism that’s probably impossible to do from DC 😛,0,4346027.story

  13. Karma says:

Andrew went on that unnamed jerks show and claimed that Obama’s sheer awesomeness would fix what was going wrong with the Iraq war. And then it would prove him right for supporting Bush’s illegal invasion.

He has been on the wrong side of history, without fail, for how long now? 🙂

NBC News: The Obama re-election campaign is requesting rates for a potential – and significant – TV ad buy.

I am surprised that backtrack has to pay for any ads on the

    • DandyTiger says:

It would be really funny if the Repubs didn’t bother buying ads on NBC because, well, what would be the point. Only nut job Obots watch it (and are on it).

      nancy to owies

    • DandyTiger says:

The movement did what it was designed to do, bring up the 1% vs. 99% meme to battle Romney with, and to distract frustrated liberals. There is no point for it from this point forward. In fact, the only thing it could do moving forward is to get out of control of the original astroturf design, like the tea party did.

      • DandyTiger says:

Interestingly the main thing OWS has done off script is commit countless rapes, gang rapes, and random violence. And then the odd questionable deaths, suicides, and child abandonment. Other than that, it’s been great fun. But I guess boyz will be boyz as they say.

      • Pips says:

        Via Yahoo News:

As hundreds of Occupy protesters massed outside the gates of the White House, an apparent smoke bomb was thrown over the fence Tuesday night, forcing authorities to disperse the crowds. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama were not in the White House when it happened — he was taking her out for a night on the town to celebrate her 48th birthday.

Nancy “I’m not really dead – its just bad lighting!” Pelosi’s vid of same:

      • DandyTiger says:

She’s just saying that to win over Republicans. What she really means is that she’s fully on board with OWS. /snark

  17. HELENK says:

since 2009 , the backtrack bunch has found some way to insult the American people almost every day.
Most of them have made a damn good living off the American people.
How long will it take for the American people to start fighting back?
I really hope that the election of 2012 gets rid of every one of the backtrack bunch and we never hear from them again. We do not need outside enemies we have them.

that swamp gas in DC is as strong as the koolaide

keep the owies, relocate the rats

Notice all the scary animal pictures in that post. The last one is the scariest. 🙂

And no, please do not send the rat families to VA. Keep the rats in DC where they will feel at home.

  19. DeniseVB says:

OT: Getting “scary” messages and emails, WordPress will be blacked out tomorrow ? Does that mean all my fav WP blogs will be down?

Wish someone would explain SOPA to me like they’re talking to a 4 year old……you can skip over the Bush’s fault part 😉

    • Three Wickets says:

It’s the MPAA (Chris Dodd) and friends versus Google (Eric Schmidt) and friends. There’s much chatter and debate about the culture of the internet etc. But it’s really about bigtime corporate money and revenues for both sides. MPAA side wants privacy and non-piracy. Google side wants piracy and non-privacy. That’s my shorthand read. 🙂

Wikipedia is dark , now if Fuckerberg would shut down FB we would have something .. 😉

The media and entertainment industries represent 7% of our economy and account for 10 million jobs, a handful of them for media titans, the vast majority of them for writers, artists, editors, producers, designers, builders, engineers, programmers, promoters, managers, technicians, assistants, supporting staff, etc etc. If we want all content for free, then no 10 million jobs and only amateur homemade content. Wikipedia is noble and amazing and pays nothing and puts no food on the table for anyone. Google makes $30 billion a year, about 10x bigger than FB for now, and their business model is essentially data-monetizing non-privacy and selling ads on softly pirated and organized content. They don’t create or produce their own content.
