Helen Keller has always been an idol of mine and a continuing source of inspiration. If you get the chance, read her book “The World I Live In”. She was the closest thing to a pure soul that has passed through this world in a long, long time.

    Thanks for the videos.

The Godfather Saga is showing today on AMC – all scenes in chronological order.

I hope you are feeling better myiq. 🙂

there is an attack on my candidate. I had planned a write in vote from California and get my kids in PA and NJ to vote write in for him. Now his is under attack. I would like a grass roots movement to fight back the smears

Of course if Romney picked West we would hear the very same calls from the left that the choice was rooted in bigotry as they did when McCain picked Palin. In then new Obama post-racial world, everything is about race.

What an amazing story of both a teacher and the ultimate disadvantaged student fighting their way through impossible odds to come out of the darkness. Inspiring.

Given that example, it’s pretty hard to come up with an excuse for not learning how to read. 🙂

These pictures are pretty amazing. A dog’s seeing eye dog.

This may be my favorite Washington Post story of all time.
They never paid a single mortgage. For some reason the WP is not allowing the comments to post. I wonder why? /snark?

    • DandyTiger says:

Wonder if loosing a couple of sponsors had something to do with that apology. 🙂 Having said that, it was clear to me when I heard an excerpt that it was his usual over the top buffoonery joking. But it was certainly over the top.

    • DandyTiger says:

And of course, since Flukes main testimony was about a friend who lost an ovary because she couldn’t afford pills, Rush was juuuust a bit extra over the line with that. But he knew what he was doing for his show. Question is, do the Repubs know what they’re doing pushing some of the same nonsense?

    • 1539days says:

Obama finally found a way to make Rush apologize. I don’t see why he should. Fluke benefited from the media attention. One of her first stops was the Ed Show. Host Ed Schultz was the guy who called Laura Ingraham a “right-wing slut.” I guess that didn’t bother Fluke.

      • DandyTiger says:

Ed is a pretty good comparison to Rush. They’re both on the same level doing the very same sort of stuff. Each party uses their buffoons the way they want. The “regular” party members would be wise to not get to close to their buffoons or what their buffoons say.

      • DandyTiger says:

And of course the very same people that called for the Rush boycott I”m sure are doing the same for the Ed show. {crickets} Just as I thought, the outrage was never about women or women’s health.

        • Three Wickets says:

Though I have zero problem calling both of them old fashioned chauvinist pigs who probably love using the terms ‘slut’ and ‘whore’ as much as they can in their daily lives. Being a sexist is not really a political trait. It just is.

    • Jadzia says:

One thing I will say in his EXTREMELY LIMITED defense (bc I can’t stand the guy): as far as I can tell from the link, he didn’t give one of those “I’m sorry IF anybody was offended” weasly apologies. Even assuming he gave the apology for the wrong reasons (i.e. losing sponsors), it sounds more like a real apology than we usually hear from public figures who have stepped in it.

And that is the only time you will ever hear me defend Rush. I’m off to take a shower now, bye.

Atheist dressed as “zombie Mohammed” was attacked by a Muslim man. Judge Mark W. Martin threw out the charge against the attacker by citing Islamic law.

    • DandyTiger says:

Perfectly said. And it’s very interesting that after 12 years of being a non issue, Obama managed to get birth control off the list of normally covered things, just in time to make it a wedge issue causing women to have to fight for Obama. What a coincidence.

    • Three Wickets says:

A David Frum tweet to go with that.

@davidfrum: If it’s “mooching” for anybody else to pay for Sandra Fluke’s birth control, then what is Medicare Part D but SUPER-mooching?

    • Jadzia says:

Well, it’s not like having an education will do much for getting you a job these days.

    • SophieCT says:

Doesn’t sound like they can afford it.

    • Three Wickets says:

I blame men more. But I do think the third wavers or post wavers need leadership, imho. Leadership that cares about women’s empowerment more than Obama empowerment. But hey, Obama is speaking at Barnard’s graduation this year, so I’m sure that’ll appease and please the Amanda Marcottes of the world.

Since nothing is off-topic on an open thread (right?), I am wondering if any of you bloggy types use Feedburner. I CANNOT figure out how to get it to tell me how many RSS subscribers I have — it keeps saying zero but I know that isn’t right. Anybody use Feedburner? Maybe this is something that will get better once I switch from Blogger to Anybody who has advice could email me at toddlerisms at gmail? I have Googled about a zillion help forums and enlisted the assistance of my usually-computer-literate husband, but I just can’t figure this one out. THANKS!

    • DandyTiger says:

Sorry, I don’t know anything about it. I have to admit, I’ve only looked into the details of blogger and wordpress a bit when issues have come up, so I’m no expert.
