Pushback – It works!

Louis C.K.

Vulgar Comedian Louis C.K. Bounced From Media Dinner

Louis C.K. has been ousted as the headline act in the annual Radio and Television Correspondents Association Dinner hosted in DC.

The liberal comedian came under fire from Fox News host Greta Van Susteren, who blasted him for his history of offensive comments about Sarah Palin and other women and threatened not to attend the correspondents dinner.

The ‘On the Record’ host said in her blog, GretaWire:

Another pig….and a media association has hired the pig, Louis C.K., to be their headliner for the big media dinner? Really? I am not going. I refuse to go. Everyone in the media should join me in this boycott.

The headliner of this year’s Radio and Television Correspondents Dinner is “comedian” Louis C.K. Comedian? I don’t think so. Pig? yes.

He uses filthy language about women…..yes, the C word…and yes, even to describe a woman candidate for Vice President of the United States. It isn’t just Governor Palin he denigrates. He denigrates all women and looks to the crowd to laugh.

I refuse to show any support for this guy or for the Radio and Television Correspondents Association Dinner Committee who hired him. I think the organization that hired him is just as bad as he is. It is no secret that he denigrates women.

The pushback against Rush Limbaugh hasn’t gotten him fired yet. Bill Maher still has a job too. But at least some progress has been made.

Pushback is like dieting. You don’t need to spend any money to do it. In fact it may save you money.  You don’t have to join any groups.  You don’t need to miss any work or time with your kids.  It involves some sacrifice though, and you have to be consistent.

How do you pushback? You stop using certain products and services. You cancel memberships and subscriptions. You join boycotts. You express yourself – you contact the companies you are boycotting and you tell them why you aren’t buying what they are selling.

Rush Limbaugh gets paid to perform on a radio show. The network that employs him sells advertising spots based on his ratings. You can’t stop people from listening to his show, but if no advertisers will pay for spots on his program then the network will fire him even if his ratings are high.

Bill Maher works for HBO. There are no commercials on HBO. Do you subscribe to HBO? If you do then you are paying Bill’s salary whether you watch his show or not. If people start canceling their HBO subscriptions because of Bill Maher then HBO will fire him.

To be fair, a group calling itself One Million Moms tried to organize a boycott against J.C. Penney because of Ellen Degeneres. That didn’t work out so well. The difference is they were spreading hate. We are trying to pushback against it.

Pushback against misogyny. Zero tolerance.

“How do you pushback? You stop using certain products and services.”

Well, actually, first you become a powerful voice in the media, a journalist or an actress, and then you stand up publicly and express yourself.

Maybe I am a cynic, but thousands of us little people staging a boycott doesn’t have nearly as much influence as somebody like Greta putting her foot down.

  2. myiq2xu says:

Lois CK is not even close to the worst offender. He is capable of being funny without using misogyny or vulgarity.

Limbaugh and Maher are repeat offenders.

  3. votermom says:

Hey, since the youtubes are coming out, here’s one.

I’m not for Rick but this is nice.

  4. bluestate says:

this is great news. what louis said about palin makes the stuff maher said positively tame. big warning if you follow the link:

he also has a history of making rape jokes, and racial jokes. just because he has talent and says funny things or good things sometimes doesn’t make it ok.

    • myiq2xu says:

      I stand corrected.

    • votermom says:

      So vile.
Never heard of him before (and I bet a lot of Americans haven’t either) but he gets picked to the correspondents dinner? They really live in a different world.

      • Lola-at-Large says:

He’s big with a certain kind of smug entertainment consumer. Also had a show on HBO, which was a flying circus of misogyny and male lameness.

  5. yttik says:

I can’t stand Rush, but I’m bothered by the white house effort to get Rush censored from Armed Forces radio.

It’s one thing for the people to launch a protest, boycott, etc. It’s a completely different thing for the President and the white house to get involved.

    • DeniseVB says:

That’s just a petition site the WH sponsors. They need to get 25,000 signatures by April 3 THEN the WH will get involved some way. They have under 6k now.

Otherwise, a nice little email harvest scam they’re running 😉

    • myiq2xu says:

Obama could get Rush dropped from AFN with the stroke of his pen.

      • Mary says:

Yes,but that would be overt instead of covert, and it ain’t how this smug little president works. I don,t have to remind you of how his minions managed to call the Clintons racists , do I,while he supposedly stayed “above it all?”

    • JeanLouise says:

I couldn’t access the website but I pay taxes. Taxes pay for the programs on Arms Services Radio. I don’t want to pay to have hate speeh against women broadcast from a goverenment radio station. If that order needs to come from Panetta, so be it.

    Kristen Powers:

“It’s not true that liberals never call out people for misogyny!” is the refrain. Of course it’s not true, and I never said it was. Many of the professional left seem incapable of distinguishing between a few blog posts and comments condemning left-wing misogyny and a full-scale war to remove someone from their job. This really shouldn’t be so hard to grasp: If you hate misogyny and sexism in the media, then react to the consistent and repeated misogyny of men on the left with the same fervor that you have reacted to Rush Limbaugh’s sickening outbursts.

President Obama has seen fit to wade into the Limbaugh kerfuffle, even telling reporters Tuesday that Limbaugh’s behavior was an attack on everyone’s daughter and “I do not want them attacked or called horrible names.” Speaking of daughters, do you remember when Bill Maher said that the real name of then-20-year-old Bristol Palin’s book should be “Whoops, There’s a Dick in Me?”

  7. insanelysane says:

First, ever notice how Hillary never came down into the gutter with the slime that hounded her since day one?

She never even slipped and got a little on her, that I can remember.

She has always raised the discourse. Always gave good ideas and never belittles or degrades anyone…unless they really deserved it
( Shame on you Ohio Obama deceit).
    She is just Presidential.
With convictions and ability to LEAD .
If a woman like Hillary were in the White House the public discourse would have been elevated for women’s issues from DAY ONE.
She knows how to direct this very conversation.

Obama getting into the fray with these lowballers is just not Presidential. Using his daughters ( again) to teach us. He is worse than even I imagined and it’s just going down hill from there.
    He is such a man-child.
All he does is talk, talk, talk.

    • Pips says:

Agree one hundred percent! She is Presidential!

Also, she never bends over ‘forwards’ giggling. Can’t help it, but women in power, with ‘access’, doing that always makes me cringe. Whatever you call her laughter [snort!], she’s not shy about it. Good on her. 😆

  8. Three Wickets says:

Think HBO is probably making good money off the Palin hate, and CNN continues to be election central for Obama. Both are owned and run by Time Warner whose CEO Jeffrey Bewkes has given lip service to ensuring more balanced coverage for this election. Bullshit based on the evidence so far. Bewkes’ name should be out front if his properties want to play in the mud.

    • DeniseVB says:

The Reelz TV CEO’s come under fire for showing The Undefeated, it’s not a right-wing conspiracy, heh.

    • Three Wickets says:

As long as Maher’s still collecting a salary from Jeffrey Bewkes, the $1 million to Obama’s SuperPAC might as well be coming from Time Warner. Donna Brazile also collects a check from Bewkes, so Maher’s in good company.

      • Three Wickets says:

This is like 2008 when Obama supporter Richard Parsons was Time Warner (CNN) chair instead of Bewkes. Obama then basically made Parsons chair of Citi Group in 2009 just when it received $45 billion in federal bailouts. Think Parsons stepped down to retire last week. He definitely collected from Obama on his help steering CNN.

        • Three Wickets says:

Not sure who made out better. Parsons at Time Warner/CNN or Immelt as GE/NBC, but those two definitely won the 2008 election for Obama. Media coverage wins national elections.

  9. insanelysane says:

    More on topic.
When Maher got canned for the 911 hero comments, I was in support of him for calling out Bush comments. So I bought HBO when he started up there.
Then in 2008, he began with the most vile comments re: Hillary..
I immediately cancelled HBO and I told them why. They offered it to me free for 3 months. I told them where to put that.

Haven’t gone back. Occasionally, I call direct TV to ask the nice PR folks if Maher is still on HBO and they proudly say yes…blah blah..
So I tell them NO thanks and say when they dump him, I’ll re-up

    It feels so good.

    • DeniseVB says:

I was more insane, paid $300 to see him on Broadway with my daughter. He was still bashing both parties at the time and politics in general. It was good stuff.

  10. myiq2xu says:

    With friends like these:

Gloria Allred seeks Rush Limbaugh prosecution

Rush Limbaugh has drawn the ire of celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, who sent a letter to the Palm Beach County state attorney requesting an investigation into whether the popular radio host should be prosecuted for calling a law student a “slut” and “prostitute” last week.

This is a waste of time and a distraction. Even if they did prosecute Fatboy it would just turn him into a wingnut martyr.

  11. swanspirit says:

    more pushback from SHE_PAC

    • Three Wickets says:

Wow it has 100,000 hits, yesterday it had just 300.

    • T says:

Nice message against Maher. Otherwise, couldn’t disagree with SHE_PAC more.

      They said Limbaugh apologized? LOL!
Add to that their uber right wing positions.

But they’ve got the goods on Maher, that’s for certain. I applaud them for that. I hope it ruins him. He has been scum since I can remember.

    • ralphb says:

People all over the country have started protesting state legislature’s anti-abortion and assorted crap. There was a decent crowd Tuesday at the Texas state capital rallying for women’s health care. It seems we have managed to fuck that up worse than normal now.

I assume that’s what this video is all about? If not then WTF?

    • Lola-at-Large says:

About 1 of those women was young enough to actually need contraception. Half of them probably don’t even have uteruses anymore (hysterectomies are way over-prescribed in this country, especially for aging populations). Sometimes people don’t think about optics.

      • lorac says:

I noticed that, too. To me it means that the 2nd wave is pulling the weight again – 3rd wave needs to wake up. These issues affect them most.

  12. lorac says:

She has always raised the discourse. Always gave good ideas and never belittles or degrades anyone…unless they really deserved it…snip…
    She is just Presidential.

Ooops – forgot to add – “excellent comment!”

      • Erica says:

yes, pretty much sums up the incredible melancholy I feel when thinking about all the DNC and 0 cost the nation by cheating and stealiing the primary.

DNC sent me a membership ap and I sent it back with a note that said, since the 2008 primary and the ensuing three years of Obama’s residency in the White House, I am fully convinced that the DNC is corrupt, and Obama is a fraud. Try me again when you’ve restored honor and integrity to your orgnization–but only if you back a real Democrat who knows what she’s doing, like, say, Hillary Clinton.

aack ~ can we please avoid the Maher dick nose photo…freakin nauseates me every time…………….

  14. Lulu says:

If you look at photos of some of the most egregious misogyny offenders I am struck by the obvious at once. Limbaugh, Maher, and this Louis person are dreadfully unattractive physically. I know that I am being shallow and sexist in saying three very successful wealthy men are butt ugly but good god they are dogs! I happen to be very fond and attracted to several old, homely, balding men. But they have something these three do not have. Charm, kindness, and brains go a long way in the attractiveness quotient. This little detail may be a part of their rage against women in general since they might be too stupid to figure out how to acquire other attributes that may cancel out their unfortunate luck in the genetics crap shoot of life.

    • SWPAnnA says:

in a version of Mrs. Gumph’s philosophy, pretty is as pretty does. I submit that the REASON they’re so ugly is they have become the product of their behavior.

  15. DeniseVB says:

Ugh. Andrew Breitbart’s wife being mocked on twitter. A new low ? Warning, very vile……

    • Lulu says:

I am not going to look at it. I found it interesting that she is actor Orson Bean’s daughter. I think we are seeing the true loons of the self styled progressives finally exposed.

    • votermom says:

I saw that yesterday. Congrats to the obot left – persecuting a recently bereaved widow. What courage and class. barf

  16. gram cracker says:

It isn’t just men who are misogynists. Remember back in 2008 when

“Sandra Bernhard issued a blistering warning to Sarah Palin during a performance of her new one-woman show.

The Republican V.P. nom would be “gang-raped by my big black brothers” if she enters Manhattan, Bernhard said.

The controversial comedian targets Palin as part of her “Without You I’m Nothing” stage show this month at Washington, D.C.’s Theater J.

“Now you’ve got Uncle women like Sarah Palin who jumps in this s*** and points her fingers at other women,” Bernhard says, before launching into the several minutes’ long diatribe against Palin, calling her a “turncoat b***”.

“Call the s*** in and tell them what I said tonight,” she says, to laughs and cheers from the audience.”

Blacks should have been outraged at Bernhard’s racist comment.

    • DeniseVB says:

Used to be a fan of Bernhard’s too. 😦 Also Rosie, Imus, Stern. Not sure what changed, maybe going menopostal changed my sense of humor?

Can’t explain my continuing crush on Charlie Sheen though …. 😉 😉 Cougar hormones?

  17. gram cracker says:

    Pushback does work sometimes.

“New York liberal comedian, Sandra Bernhard, has lost a gig at the annual fundraiser for a woman’s shelter in Boston. Her appearance was canceled because she made violent comments about Sarah Palin – all in the guise of politically “correct?” humor, of course. Filth that Bernhard spewed at a show in Washington obviously caught up with her and was not well received by the women’s shelter, Rosie’s place.”

  18. JeanLouise says:

I took a bullet and watched Maher’s show last night. He’s really bothered that he’s being compared to Rush. He offered up his own lame “apology” to women, then dismissed them by mumbling something about why any women would want to be lumped in with Palin. And he claimed that he was not a misogynist. I think he really believes it which just goes to show how lacking in insight he really is. It was painful.

I understand that Rush has moved on to ranting about young, white, overeducated women.

Nothing other than professional obliteration might force these men to sit down and try to figure out why so many people who agree with them politically still think they’re assholes.

    • DeniseVB says:

Maher defended Rush (over that pesky free speech “black hole” in our comedy rights) earlier this week. He also doesn’t believe in boycotting sponsors. Whatev BM, you’re both are still pigs, the lipstick ain’t working.

Amy Siskind’s been putting full court pressure on HBO for a few months over Maher’s sexist comments. Recently over the Alabama Dems for hiring him for a fundraiser. Her gang’s been busy making calls. Couldn’t believe the state chairman wasn’t aware of Mr. Maher’s problem with women 😉 Also, HBO is starting to track viewer calls, especially the ones canceling CABLE if HBO won’t “fire Maher”.

Thank you JL for watching so I don’t have to 😀

      • honora says:

It is easy for Maher, who is famous and has media access, to be against the rest of us using the only real weapon we have, boycotting the shows and/or sponsors, to get our message out.

  19. foxyladi14 says:

Obama is milking this for all it,s worth.I wish He would just stop campaigning. 👿

    • DandyTiger says:

He’s the campaigner in chief. That’s all he’s ever done his whole life. He doesn’t know anything else.

      • Erica says:

Be fair Dandy….he knows how to sit around and wait for people to hand him opportunities on silver platters.

    • T says:

Sure wish he wouldn’t equate that behavior with “lefties”. Real lefties believe in free speech AND consequences….(which means free speech on both sides of the argument).

I’ll have to go out and see if anyone is really mad about teh LouisCK thing….

      • votermom says:

        Lefties are as lefties do.

      • Three Wickets says:

I’m leftish, not a Nader progressive, but a lifelong liberal Democrat. I supported Hillary and though I respected Palin for her candidacy and courage, I doubt I’d vote for her as Potus this year. I have too many differences on policy, but if she keeps growing, who knows how I’ll feel in the future. All that said, until yesterday I thought LouisCK was one of the funniest comics around. Now after listening to his Palin routine, I think he’s a sexist prick and a coward. Won’t watch him again.

      • Three Wickets says:

Consequences is right. If we believe all advertiser supported programming has an open-ended right to free speech, then we believe all corporations have an open-ended right to free speech. Responsibility matters. Most individuals don’t have the power to speak to 20 million people at once instantly, most large corporations and large political parties do – thru spokespeople in the media. Our libertarian framers didn’t have such scenarios.

      • Lola-at-Large says:

The left wouldn’t be characterized that way if they hadn’t descended into neaderthal world the minute a woman hit the GOP stage. I blame the women of the left for letting them get away with it for so long and for keeping silent and going along to get along. I was one of those, but no more. Now I know the truth: both sides hate my feminine guts. Fuck them both with a rusty saw.

Could it be that women finally speaking out in response to these insults is what young girls need to hear as they grow up? Perhaps the failure of the 3rd Wave is the result of silence on these very matters. We must train civilized people to know such a line exists and to enforce penalties when that line is violated. Amen, eh?
