Vulgar Comedian Louis C.K. Bounced From Media Dinner
Louis C.K. has been ousted as the headline act in the annual Radio and Television Correspondents Association Dinner hosted in DC.
The liberal comedian came under fire from Fox News host Greta Van Susteren, who blasted him for his history of offensive comments about Sarah Palin and other women and threatened not to attend the correspondents dinner.
The ‘On the Record’ host said in her blog, GretaWire:
Another pig….and a media association has hired the pig, Louis C.K., to be their headliner for the big media dinner? Really? I am not going. I refuse to go. Everyone in the media should join me in this boycott.
The headliner of this year’s Radio and Television Correspondents Dinner is “comedian” Louis C.K. Comedian? I don’t think so. Pig? yes.
He uses filthy language about women…..yes, the C word…and yes, even to describe a woman candidate for Vice President of the United States. It isn’t just Governor Palin he denigrates. He denigrates all women and looks to the crowd to laugh.
I refuse to show any support for this guy or for the Radio and Television Correspondents Association Dinner Committee who hired him. I think the organization that hired him is just as bad as he is. It is no secret that he denigrates women.
The pushback against Rush Limbaugh hasn’t gotten him fired yet. Bill Maher still has a job too. But at least some progress has been made.
Pushback is like dieting. You don’t need to spend any money to do it. In fact it may save you money. You don’t have to join any groups. You don’t need to miss any work or time with your kids. It involves some sacrifice though, and you have to be consistent.
How do you pushback? You stop using certain products and services. You cancel memberships and subscriptions. You join boycotts. You express yourself – you contact the companies you are boycotting and you tell them why you aren’t buying what they are selling.
Rush Limbaugh gets paid to perform on a radio show. The network that employs him sells advertising spots based on his ratings. You can’t stop people from listening to his show, but if no advertisers will pay for spots on his program then the network will fire him even if his ratings are high.
Bill Maher works for HBO. There are no commercials on HBO. Do you subscribe to HBO? If you do then you are paying Bill’s salary whether you watch his show or not. If people start canceling their HBO subscriptions because of Bill Maher then HBO will fire him.
To be fair, a group calling itself One Million Moms tried to organize a boycott against J.C. Penney because of Ellen Degeneres. That didn’t work out so well. The difference is they were spreading hate. We are trying to pushback against it.
Pushback against misogyny. Zero tolerance.

Well, actually, first you become a powerful voice in the media, a journalist or an actress, and then you stand up publicly and express yourself.
Maybe I am a cynic, but thousands of us little people staging a boycott doesn’t have nearly as much influence as somebody like Greta putting her foot down.
Everybody has different sized feet. You can’t put anyone else’s foot down. You can only control your own.
Lois CK is not even close to the worst offender. He is capable of being funny without using misogyny or vulgarity.
Limbaugh and Maher are repeat offenders.

It’s one thing for the people to launch a protest, boycott, etc. It’s a completely different thing for the President and the white house to get involved.

Think HBO is probably making good money off the Palin hate, and CNN continues to be election central for Obama. Both are owned and run by Time Warner whose CEO Jeffrey Bewkes has given lip service to ensuring more balanced coverage for this election. Bullshit based on the evidence so far. Bewkes’ name should be out front if his properties want to play in the mud.

As long as Maher’s still collecting a salary from Jeffrey Bewkes, the $1 million to Obama’s SuperPAC might as well be coming from Time Warner. Donna Brazile also collects a check from Bewkes, so Maher’s in good company.
This is like 2008 when Obama supporter Richard Parsons was Time Warner (CNN) chair instead of Bewkes. Obama then basically made Parsons chair of Citi Group in 2009 just when it received $45 billion in federal bailouts. Think Parsons stepped down to retire last week. He definitely collected from Obama on his help steering CNN.
Not sure who made out better. Parsons at Time Warner/CNN or Immelt as GE/NBC, but those two definitely won the 2008 election for Obama. Media coverage wins national elections.

When Maher got canned for the 911 hero comments, I was in support of him for calling out Bush comments. So I bought HBO when he started up there.
Then in 2008, he began with the most vile comments re: Hillary..
I immediately cancelled HBO and I told them why. They offered it to me free for 3 months. I told them where to put that.
Haven’t gone back. Occasionally, I call direct TV to ask the nice PR folks if Maher is still on HBO and they proudly say yes…blah blah..
So I tell them NO thanks and say when they dump him, I’ll re-up

People all over the country have started protesting state legislature’s anti-abortion and assorted crap. There was a decent crowd Tuesday at the Texas state capital rallying for women’s health care. It seems we have managed to fuck that up worse than normal now.

About 1 of those women was young enough to actually need contraception. Half of them probably don’t even have uteruses anymore (hysterectomies are way over-prescribed in this country, especially for aging populations). Sometimes people don’t think about optics.
I noticed that, too. To me it means that the 2nd wave is pulling the weight again – 3rd wave needs to wake up. These issues affect them most.

If you look at photos of some of the most egregious misogyny offenders I am struck by the obvious at once. Limbaugh, Maher, and this Louis person are dreadfully unattractive physically. I know that I am being shallow and sexist in saying three very successful wealthy men are butt ugly but good god they are dogs! I happen to be very fond and attracted to several old, homely, balding men. But they have something these three do not have. Charm, kindness, and brains go a long way in the attractiveness quotient. This little detail may be a part of their rage against women in general since they might be too stupid to figure out how to acquire other attributes that may cancel out their unfortunate luck in the genetics crap shoot of life.

I took a bullet and watched Maher’s show last night. He’s really bothered that he’s being compared to Rush. He offered up his own lame “apology” to women, then dismissed them by mumbling something about why any women would want to be lumped in with Palin. And he claimed that he was not a misogynist. I think he really believes it which just goes to show how lacking in insight he really is. It was painful.
I understand that Rush has moved on to ranting about young, white, overeducated women.
Nothing other than professional obliteration might force these men to sit down and try to figure out why so many people who agree with them politically still think they’re assholes.
Maher defended Rush (over that pesky free speech “black hole” in our comedy rights) earlier this week. He also doesn’t believe in boycotting sponsors. Whatev BM, you’re both are still pigs, the lipstick ain’t working.
Amy Siskind’s been putting full court pressure on HBO for a few months over Maher’s sexist comments. Recently over the Alabama Dems for hiring him for a fundraiser. Her gang’s been busy making calls. Couldn’t believe the state chairman wasn’t aware of Mr. Maher’s problem with women 😉 Also, HBO is starting to track viewer calls, especially the ones canceling CABLE if HBO won’t “fire Maher”.

I’m leftish, not a Nader progressive, but a lifelong liberal Democrat. I supported Hillary and though I respected Palin for her candidacy and courage, I doubt I’d vote for her as Potus this year. I have too many differences on policy, but if she keeps growing, who knows how I’ll feel in the future. All that said, until yesterday I thought LouisCK was one of the funniest comics around. Now after listening to his Palin routine, I think he’s a sexist prick and a coward. Won’t watch him again.
Consequences is right. If we believe all advertiser supported programming has an open-ended right to free speech, then we believe all corporations have an open-ended right to free speech. Responsibility matters. Most individuals don’t have the power to speak to 20 million people at once instantly, most large corporations and large political parties do – thru spokespeople in the media. Our libertarian framers didn’t have such scenarios.
The left wouldn’t be characterized that way if they hadn’t descended into neaderthal world the minute a woman hit the GOP stage. I blame the women of the left for letting them get away with it for so long and for keeping silent and going along to get along. I was one of those, but no more.
