I am horrified

For over forty years I have been a fan of the cult-classic television show Dark Shadows. Yeah, it was a cheesy combination of All My Children and Dracula with a dash of Ed Wood thrown in, but I was a little kid when it aired back in 1966-1971. Barnabas (played by Jonathan Frid) was the original good-guy vampire while the vampire/witch Angelique (played by Lara Parker) gave me thoughts I was too young to be having.

I should have expected that a film by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp would be a dark comedy, but this is a sacrilege! The cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jackie Earle Haley and Chloë Grace Moretz as well as cameo appearances by original cast members Jonathan Frid, Lara Parker, David Selby and Kathryn Leigh Scott.

It is scheduled to be released on May 11th.

A Burton-Depp treatment should be wonderful ! I read somewhere, Dark Shadows was their favorite afterschool show too and why they wanted to do this. Their Sweeney Todd, the movie, was so different from the play, but Burton-licious. Many of the key scenes are on youtube, here’s the trailer to whet your appetite. 😀

    What Happened to Oprah ?
Good article from a conservative viewpoint:

In 2008, she endorsed in the Democratic presidential campaign. She endorsed the wrong candidate. She backed Barack Obama. She should have backed Hillary Clinton. A woman who built her career as transcending race and being the every woman in the end chose race over sex. The Democratic Party did her in. Democrats wanted to make demographic history — first woman president or first black president? — and she wound up alienating her audience. It is important to note that Hillary Clinton received more popular votes than Barack Obama.

Hillary got more votes! I see a Republican theme starting up for the election. Democratic talking heads: The Republicans are harming themselves with their vicious never ending primaries. Answer: At least we let the winner win. This is especially amusing after Florida in 2000 but whatever works. Hypocrites being hypocritical to hypocrites and all.

    • It would be interesting to see the 2008 Dem primary winner run against Romney, but she’s not running.

I’m horrified too. Why do they have to take such a classic and turn it into something so cheesy?
