A wave of plasma stoked by an X-class solar flare, the most intense type, is headed towards Earth. This blast of charged particles, known as a coronal mass ejection (CME), is forecast to ignite a geomagnetic storm on Earth over the weekend. NOAA predicts it will be minor, maybe moderate. NASA says it will be moderate to severe.

Wooooot! Congrats, and thanks for being here. So many smart people, and above all normal people, just trying to roll with the punches and figure shit out. Thanks for giving people the space and freedom to be whoever they are, and think out loud, and even contradict themselves at times.

What I like most about this blog is that it has more the feel of a bunch of people shooting the political breeze at a bar than any particular mission or message. There is plenty of intellect and insight, but not the folly of taking ourselves so fecking seriously.

I have no delusions. If we were bring in 1,000,000 hits a day that would still be less than 1% of the country.

I ain’t trying to save the world. I just want to have some fun before I die.

  24. angienc says:

Well, since this is an open thread, I’m posting this here (since it’s also the newest thread) rather in the Mitt on CNN one below.

Two things to share on the Bain/SEC doc things. First, something I just became aware of (but should have realized before, although to be honest I was so completely thrown by the horseshit coming out of TeamObama that I didn’t) is that those civil violations for filing false SEC docs, etc. that the Obots are screaming about are *only* applicable to publicly traded companies and Bain is a privately held company, not a publicly traded company. So that makes the Obama smear doubly bad. Don’t expect to see the MSM explaining that — I doubt they even understand it as they don’t seem to understand how someone can retain a title at a company without having actual control of the decisions in a company (to be fair, Obama doesn’t seem to understand the difference either).

Which brings me my second point — I’ve had something of an epiphany on how to explain this to non-lawyer types (although it isn’t a perfect analogy, it is a way for people to wrap their heads around the concept). Romney still owned Bain in the same way you might own a house in Florida but have to move to Texas for your job. Instead of selling your house in Florida you decide to rent it. Because you will be out of state & unable to manage things for the property (such as repairs, collecting rent, etc) you hire a management company to take care of those day to day things. So, you don’t live in the house, you don’t manage the day to day affairs of the house vis-a-vis your tenants, but you still *own* the house, are still listed as the owner on the deed, etc & you are still entitled to a profit from renting it (and from when you eventually sell it if you decide to do so). This is what happened when Romney left Bain to run the Olympics in Utah — he turned over the management of Bain to his partners, but he still owned his shares in Bain (and btw, the SEC docs in question refer to Bain VI — which was Romney’s share of the company, not Bain Capital as a whole — another distinction I wouldn’t hold my breath on for the MSM to grasp or make) and was entitled to profit from that ownership. It wasn’t until a buy out/severance agreement could be reached that Romney’s ownership interest was sold, however, and in the interim he was, in fact, still the owner of Bain VI & was properly listed as such on SEC docs.

    • myiq2xu says:

      Here’s another example:

Owner of a company retires, puts his son-in-law in charge and moves to Florida. He still owns the company but his son-in-law runs it.

10 years later the owner dies. His wife inherits. She owns, son-in-law manages.

Eventually wife dies. Daughter inherits. Son-in-law is still running company. But if they divorce he’s unemployed.

      • angienc says:

Very good & a much better analogy, but I thought maybe removing the whole “business” aspect would help since that seems to be the thing most people are seriously lacking in understanding about — it’s like they’ve never even heard of the concept of a business being an entity in & of itself with certain members holding certain titles on filing docs regardless of what those members do re: the day to day operations of the business. I figured everyone — even the dumbest of Obama’s flying monkeys — could understand the concept of owning a house that you lease out.

        • myiq2xu says:

I’m surprised at you angie. Haven’t you figured it out yet?

There is no explanation that will convince them because they don’t want to be convinced. If you tell them that 2+2 = 4 they would disagree.

That’s why I quit arguing with Obots.

        • Lulu says:

The run of the mill Obots may not understand but the Obama campaign which is staffed with attorneys know exactly what they are doing. They are liars, thugs and authoritarians. They have no rules. They are not civilized and are feral. When no rules apply they need to understand that it goes both ways. The whole country is edging towards open rebellion which can be seen in the states loudly saying they are not going to follow Obama’s “rules” because he and punks don’t follow any.

    • DandyTiger says:

Of course you already know the Obot response: Romney is a criminal because shut up, that’s why. /s

      • angienc says:

Yeah, the Obots are masturbaining like there’s no tomorrow.

      • leslie says:

I’m confused about the reason for the “/s”. There is nothing snarky about what you wrote. “Because, shut up that’s why”, is pretty much what I hear from the Obots I know.

What they said about Breitbart when he died (and since) is nothing compared to what they are saying about Romney. And THAT may be one of the biggest (secondary) reasons I may vote for him in November.

  25. DandyTiger says:

It would be irresponsible not to speculate on things. And given the latest insanity from the Obot nation, irresponsible not to spread rumors about Obama. πŸ™‚
