Breaking Bad Open Thread

Hector “Tio” Salamanca

It’s Sunday night and time once again for the best damn show on television. Who’s your favorite supporting character?

I vote for Tuco’s uncle Hector. Except for a couple of flashback scenes he never speaks and yet he expresses himself very clearly.

Tonight is episode three of season five. What twists and turns will the story take? Tune into AMC to find out.

(Or you could watch the Olympics on #NBCfail.)

This is an open thread.

  1. I love this show too, and I’ll be sorry when it ends. I think that Skyler White, Walter’s wife is a great role played beautifully by Anna Gunn.

    • Oswald says:

She’s turning to the dark side just like Walt.

      • I like their son. I think something special is in store for him this season.

      • I’m a little annoyed at her emotional meltdown this season. They better have a good reason for it.

        • myiq2xu says:

Cut her some slack. Her husband murdered three people (that she knows of) and her boyfriend broke his neck and will never walk again.

        • myiq2xu says:

She thought she was married to Clark Kent and he turned out to be Lex Luthor.

        • Oh pu-lease! She herself became Mrs. Corleone when she hired Saul’s guys to force her ex-boyfriend’s hand in S4. Plus, she had already figured out last season about Gale, so Gustavo should have been no surprise. Besides, my problem isn’t with her, as she’s a fictional character and that would be irrationally stupid. My problem would be with the writers IF they don’t have a very good reason for this. There is already some evidence from S4 and this season that they are off their game, so…

  2. Tio is amazing because he plays a non-verbal stroke victim excellently. I actually thought he was really old until I saw the flashback scenes. Great actor to be able to pull that role off like he did. And a perfect stage exit.

  3. My favorite supporting character is Mike. I just like him as a person, even though he’s a cold blooded killer and somewhat of an opportunist, so that’s saying something.

The brother-in-law is no slouch either, though I have a hard time sometimes accepting that a sexist pig like him can actually be that smart.

OT — Wasn’t it just yesterday that Kos was calling Romney a “pathological liar” re: Bibi & Romney being friends?

Despite recently telling Vanity Fair that he didn’t know Romney well, Netanyahu seemed to be auditioning for a future diplomatic buddy pic.

“We’ve known each other for many decades, since you were a young man, but for some reason, you still look young,” he said, prompting a laugh from Romney. “You’ve been a personal friend of mine and a strong friend of the state of Israel, and that’s why it’s a pleasure to welcome you here.”…

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the pathological liars at Kos to issue a retraction. OTOH, I’m sure they will go back to hating Bibi ASAP.

I love Saul. But then I have a thing for shady lawyers.

Did I ever mention that I used to work for a company that did fumigations?

  7. myiq2xu says:

I gotta agree with Skyler on that one. Marie is über annoying

    • OMG, is she ever. I’d have left that pig husband of hers long ago. And she talk, and talks, and talks.

      • myiq2xu says:

They were made for each other.

Didn’t see tonight’s episode yet, but so far it’s nothing but purple, purple, purple with her. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her wear an outfit in another color. They even made all the accents in her house purple, down to the pots & pans and tea kettle Did I miss where they hinted at why? Just a quirk, or one more emotional obsession?

        • Well, purple is her signature color (said in my best Steel Magnolia imitation). There are plenty of women who are actually like that about purple, so that doesn’t bother me. It’s part of he character’s annoying traits, so it fits.

I used to know this professor who was an idiot and a purple cat lady, who was also promiscuous as hell with the very aged group of mostly married men in the English department at my alma mater. I never took one of her classes, but she was popular with my fellow students. She could never pass the competence test in conversation for me to take one of her classes. Her memory annoys me to this day.

        • myiq2xu says:

I’ve never seen a purple cat before.

They are watching Scarface on Breaking Bad – the guy who played Hector (Mark Margolis) plays a hitman in that movie.

Help please: I am trying to figure out how to ban someone from my blog on WP. Does anyone here know how?

    • myiq2xu says:

      Yes

From the admin page go to settings – discussion – blacklist

Enter the person’s alias, email address and/or IP address. (No spaces allowed). Like this:

      Joe
      Joe@yahoo.com
      123.45.6789

(If you entered it that way anyone name Joe or with Joe in their name would automatically get sent to spam.)

      • myiq2xu says:

You can also use blacklist to keep people from using certain words.

The difference between blacklist and moderation is where the comment goes. Neither one will show on the blog unless you manually release it from the filter but the commenter can see there own comments along with an “awaiting moderation” message.

Trolls will often change identities and IPs to get around moderation.

From the Discussion page you can check off “Comment author must have a previously approved comment” to prevent drive-by trolling. All that means their first comment must be approved by you.

Having some trolls? Sometimes it’s fun to play with them. But it gets old fast.

    • Lulu says:

Two fifteen minute meetings in a week is pretty good for him. They squeeze them in on his “rest” days between fundraisers. I’m impressed they are taking the hint to add them to his public schedule. Talking to Valerie Jarrett while sitting in a recliner watching ESPN does not count as a meeting.

      • cj says:

Isn’t Tuesday “kill list” day? He gets such a kick out of that one, maybe he’ll linger for a few minutes more.

    • cj says:

Clinton’s plan worked. Clinton is a Democrat & Obama claims he’s one too, so voila, Clinton’s policies = Barry’s policies. See, it’s easy peasy in Obamaworld.

You just have to erase from your memory all his previous speeches bemoaning the decades & decades of bad leadership in this country. Oh, and better not ask why that doesn’t mean Carter’s plans = Barry’s plans too, because well, just shut up, that’s why.

      • myiq2xu says:

        Clinton’s plan worked.

Remind me again why we didn’t elect another Clinton?

        • cj says:

Because CDS runs deep in DC. Don’t ask me why, but I suspect the Kennedy/Kerry faction never got over the “hillbilly’s” success.
