Vante of Tucson, AZ Regrets Actions of Former CFO

TUCSON, AZ–(Marketwire – Aug 2, 2012) – The following is a statement from Vante:

Vante regrets the unfortunate events that transpired yesterday in Tucson between our former CFO/Treasurer Adam Smith and an employee at Chick-fil-A. Effective immediately, Mr. Smith is no longer an employee of our company.

The actions of Mr. Smith do not reflect our corporate values in any manner. Vante is an equal opportunity company with a diverse workforce, which holds diverse opinions. We respect the right of our employees and all Americans to hold and express their personal opinions, however, we also expect our company officers to behave in a manner commensurate with their position and in a respectful fashion that conveys these values of civility with others.

We hope that the general population does not hold Mr. Smith’s actions against Vante and its employees.

Adam Smith is the guy who thought it would be cool to video himself harassing a Chick-fil-A employee and then post the video on YouTube. His plan blew up in his face.

I actually feel sorry for him. But only a little. He still has his part-time job as an instructor at University of Arizona.

Let that be a lesson – Don’t be a dick, or if you are a dick, don’t post the video on YouTube.

BTW – His name was outed within hours of his first posting the video. I figure this announcement makes it officially public knowledge.

    Karma’s a bitch.

Think he learned anything? What a fool.

All in all, yesterday was a wonderful lesson in what kind of free speech is protected and how. The government can’t silence you by denying you your rights because you hold beliefs they don’t like, but a private company can fire you if you embarrass them. I wish more kids were paying attention to this stuff. They don’t really understand what “free speech” means.

Boo effin’ hoo. Jerk deserved to not have a job. He’s an investment banker, uh huh.

    • mcnorman says:

How stupid is this guy? He works for a pharma co. They don’t need a smirkin’ wanna be baiter on YouTube. I hope he likes his part time pay now.

  3. lyn5 says:

Mr. Douchebag bites the dust. I bet Obama for America hires him.

  4. Glennmcgahee says:

We’re trying to teach our kids not to be bullys. Maybe we need to sit some adults down for the same talk.

  5. Glennmcgahee says:

I know its – bullies. Please don’t spell check me, my eyes hurt. A bully kicked sand in them earlier.

  6. elliesmom says:

I used to get upset when I found pictures/videos online of my students “behaving badly”. But their parents were more upset with me for saying something than they were over what their kids were doing. So I stopped paying any attention. I bet his folks are really proud of their son.

It’s an unfortunate reality, but if you go out, act like a docuhebag, and post the video on youtube, you risk losing your job. I don’t even know if I’d call it karma. It’s more like common sense.

I just hope Chik-Fil-A has plenty of free water/drinks, fries and those delicious chicken sandwiches on hand.

I don’t agree with what their owner is supporting, but he has a right to his beliefs.

I know I would get very hungry and thirsty kissing in protest, and it woudl be very hard to resist a kind uniformed employee bearing tasty food and refreshing drinks. I imagine there might be plenty of videos taken of ‘the turncoats’… Could provide a few more YouTube moments like Mr Smith… I smell another Douchebag-of-the-week winner (or more) for sure!

  9. Lulu says:

They fired him because he is an idiot. Period. Having an idiot as CFO is very dangerous. Now 75 accountants will file applications for his job and he will be replaced in 24 hours.

Very OT. It rained last night. When we woke up this morning there were spiderwebs all over the deck railings. And spiderwebs all over the grass.
My kid, who is arachnophobic, was freaked out. I had to go out before breakfast sweeping off the deck and bushes.
Anyone ever experience this? Some kind of alien arachnid invasion?

    • myiq2xu says:

Didn’t you ever read Charlotte’s Web?

When some spiders reach maturity they release a web that acts like a para-sail, lifting them in the breeze and carrying them to new locations.

      • votermom says:

That’s what I figured, but it’s never happened in these numbers before and we’ve lived here a dozen years. The grass was like a sea of silk. I think the baby spiders must have twitter and decided to flashweb our lawn.

        • elliesmom says:

A lot of them were probably there before it rained, but it took the droplets of water to make them visible. I like to take photos of spider webs and to get a better picture, I usually lightly mist them. We have a glass door going from our dining room to our deck, and we had a spider spin a web that covered the entire door. She kept spinning it attached to the doorway, and I had to keep knocking it down so we could use the entrance. Then she got smarter and hooked it to the door itself. Then she was welcome to stay. I got some spectacular photos of that one.

        • I so wish this was possible. Certainly a good story could be built around it. A sort of Charlotte’s Web updated for the modern age.

Can you imagine Watership Down if the bunnies had cell phones? 😀

  11. JohnSmart says:

Wow. This happen rapidly in the youtube age. I hope the guy contacts the worker at the window and apologizes to her. The most striking thing about the clip is not his foolishness but her grace.

    • angienc says:

The fact that he’s a CFO and an adjunct teacher at Univ of AZ shows he should know how idiotic it is to berate a low-level employee (young girl working the drive thru window) for the policies of the corporation/the CEO. Yet when he asked her “how can you live with yourself working here” he was personally blaming *her* for working there.
I’m not surprised how fast the firing happened — the conservative blogs were all over this last night — apparently his YouTube account had links to his linkedn page that was a 4 page resume with all kinds of personal info, including his (former) position at Vante — a four year old with Internet access could have found the contact info for Vante after that– emails of complaint with links to the video were going out within 1/2 an hour of his uploading it yesterday afternoon. I agree with others upthread – it isn’t karma — he’s just proven he’s an idiot and no company would want him as it’s CFO. Sadly, I bet he’s pissed off at the “unfairness” of it.
I wonder how “purposeful” he feels now.

      • votermom says:

I bet he felt entitled to harass fastfood employees. He must be a horrible boss anyway if that’s how he generally treats worker bees.

    • DeniseVB says:

The buzz on the tubes is to identify her and start a “vacation fund” like the harassed bus moniter. I like that 🙂

    • DeniseVB says:

Have you seen #2200 on Twit yet ? OFA wants us to share how we’ll be spending our “typical family of 4” tax break next year.

      • LOl tax break? Good thing I didn’t hold my breath waiting for the Bush tax break. The first year of that bs we ended up owing more than we ever had- just barely avoided owing a penalty for under withholding. Had to borrow to make a last minute deposit to the retirement account to avoid the penalty.
All that damn thing did was withhold WAY too little for us to break even. The following year we both went to withholding at the higher single rate and I had an extra 100 a month taken out. And our daughter was still living at home too!
If that is the govt idea of a tax break they can keep it. Oh and our combined income that year was 56,000.

  12. DandyTiger says:

Hahahahahaha. What an ass. Perfect candidate for OFA/OWS.

  13. How much did Adam Smith earn at Vante?
