Joan Walsh is lyin’ about Ryan

I was reading Joan Walsh’s latest at Salon when I came across a bald-faced lie:

The other component of GOP fakery Ryan exemplifies is the notion that a pampered scion of a construction empire who has spent his life supported by government somehow represents the “white working class,” by virtue of the demographics of his gradually gerrymandered blue collar district. (Emphasis added)

Paul Ryan represents Wisconsin’s 1st District. It’s pictured above. It’s about as un-gerrymandered as any congressional district in the country. It’s generally rectangular in shape, with one side set by the Wisconsin/Illinois border and another set by Lake Michigan.

But wait! There’s more:

I write about this in my book: guys like Ryan (and his Irish Catholic GOP confrere Pat Buchanan) somehow become the political face of the white working class when they never spent a day in that class in their life.

I guess she never heard of the Kennedys. But last time I checked, construction was considered a blue collar job.

Joan Walsh has a lot to do with the decline and fall of Salon.

  2. The Democratic hysteria has reached a whole new level. Maybe they’ll just blow themselves up!!

  3. Leaders from traditionally disempowered classes of people–whether or not they themselves have been disempowered–are rarely given that opportunity to lead unless there’s paradigm shift happening that makes the larger elite group give up entirely. That elite group can’t see a way out, so they try something radically different. The new diesmpowered-class leader has one shot to get it right, and if they don’t, they will be out.

Definition of Salon and Joan Walsh. She’s blowing her shot.

Paul Ryan is far more blue collar than a “community organizer.”

Something I didn’t know about Ryan, after he found his father dead of a heart attack when he was 16, his grandmother got Alzheimer’s and had to move in with them. Ryan spent a great deal of time taking care of her.

Also, during his first few years on Capitol Hill, he supplemented his income by working as a waiter.

  5. OT: Romney changes the rules once again. I actually expected this. Team Obama expects the expected, which is that Ryan will have to transform himself into the attack dog. Not true. With Ryan now selling their positive message with all his charisma, Romney is now free to unleash himself and take the fight directly to Obama. Love it!

  6. OMG! Hell froze over and the heavens aligned. I’m going to a Paul Ryan event tomorrow! w00t! Oxford, OH, here I come!

Aside from the fact that Joan Walsh wouldn’t know the truth if it jumped her, she should hold onto those accusations about gerrymandering congressional disricts. It is The. Chicago. Way. You should see the how Obama’s district was created for him.
And now IL Cong district-8 where Joe Walsh is running was manufactured so that Tammy Duckworth could not lose. Now, I’m not saying I’d ever vote for Joe Walsh; I would not. I’d most likely vote for Tammy Duckworth given the opportunity. (ftr: I worked at her campaign headquarters years ago.) But the district where she is running now was absolutely created for her. It is no where near the district where she ran – and lost.

  8. What a maroon Joan Walsh is. Janesville, WI used to be a huge auto manufacturer’s district. According to Wiki:
“In December, 2008, General Motors closed the Janesville assembly plant as part of a significant restructuring effort.[16] Begun in 1919, when GM bought the Janesville Machine Company and merged it with the Samson Tractor Company, the Janesville plant was the oldest General Motors plant in North America. It assembled large trucks and sport utility vehicles,[17] which have declined in popularity as gasoline prices increased. The Janesville GM plant’s last produced vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicle, rolled off the assembly line on December 23, 2008.”,_Wisconsin#Economy

You said it, fembots. She is a maroon.
