Fact-checking the fact-checkers

The Obama campaign whipped out the above video to prove that Paul Ryan is a dirty, rotten, no-good fibber.

Guy Benson has the response:

(1) They begin with video of CNN reporters discussing accusations of Ryan’s “lies.” This is proof that the Obama campaign sent out a lot of angry emails, and nothing else.

(2) Medicare – Sorry, guys, but it is 100 percent true that Obamacare raided $716 Billion from Medicare to pay for itself. It does cut benefits to current seniors. And Paul Ryan’s plan took the president’s Medicare “savings,” and re-routed them back into Medicare to shore up the program. Mitt Romney’s plan would undo those cuts altogether. Obama took those cuts and used them to pay for Obamacare. […]

(3) The GM Plant – Part of the factory Ryan mentioned was shut down under Bush, despite the initial GM bailout (which Senator Obama supported). The plant finally fully closed in April of 2009, during Obama’s presidency, as this report clearly states. Obama’s problem is that he showed up and made empty promises to pander for votes. Ryan never said Obama was personally responsible for the plant’s closure, but he accurately stated that it closed down within a year of candidate Obama’s hope-filled speech and remains closed today. Obama goes on and on about “saving” the auto industry and his economic recovery. That boarded-up Janesville plant tells a different story.

(4) The Stimulus – Pointing out that Paul Ryan asked that his district receive a slice of a giant, wasteful pie after it was passed — and despite his opposition — is at worst an instance of hypocrisy. It does not disprove anything that Ryan said in his speech, and it does not change the empirical fact that Barack Obama’s borrowed stimulus has utterly failed based on the metrics for success Obama himself set out for it.

(5) The debt commission – What Ryan said is absolutely correct. The Obama ad quotes Chris Wallace, who notes that Ryan was on that commission and voted against it. True. He refused to abide the section maintaining Obamacare, and voted no on its final findings. Still, he was intimately involved in the group’s deliberations and proposed solutions. Not fully happy with the final outcome, he went on to craft two budgets of his own, with numerous elements based on the Simpson-Bowles framework. The commission’s Democratic co-chairman (Bowles of Simpson-Bowles) has praised Ryan’s proposals to the hilt. Barack Obama, who convened the commission in the first place after deriding commissions on the campaign trail, completely ignored its recommendations and proceeded to propose to wildly reckless, debt-busting budgets that received a total of zero votes in either house of Congress. Correctly asserting that Ryan opposed the final Simpson-Bowles recommendations is no way absolves Obama for his demonstrable abdication of leadership on these issues. It’s more smoke and mirrors — and more petty Obama blame, another central theme of Ryan’s address.

(6) Chris Matthews called the speech “nasty.” Stop the presses!

I love the smell of desperation in the morning. It smells like . . . victory.

Until Sarah Palin came along I don’t recall ever seeing an opposing campaign spend so much time and effort trying to discredit a vice-presidential candidate. At least this time nobody is questioning who is the real mother of Ryan’s kids.

Not yet, anyway.

Sarah Palin has paved the way for all things good. Without her, the fraidy cats in the media and republican party would still be tauting The One’s greatness because “shhhhhhhh, he’s Black”. 👿

    • yttik says:

She did pave the way and she continues to lead. It’s pretty remarkable, she has held both the media and the Republican party accountable and they have both been transformed because of her work.

      • carol haka says:

I would take a bullet for her – right after they took down the Klown I was hiding behind!

        Seriously, I would.

        • cj says:

I wouldn’t take a bullet for her, but I have to say that I’d feel a lot more comfortable if she was VP. I don’t dislike Ryan, it’s just that I’m pretty sure SP wouldn’t push fiscal reform to the point where the middle class & the poor end up saying ouch. I’m not sure Paul Ryan would advise MItt in the same way.

          We’ll see.

Thank you! Keep reminding them who the Leader is in this struggle against evil!

I’m on the Virginia Tea Party mailing list and they are 100% behind Team Romney. Paul Ryan was the TP’s pick for VP and they are thrilled with the ticket now.

Just a hunch that the political maneuvering is to keep Sarah and the Teas low key to avoid the nit picking by the imploding left and their vile attacks. I’m confident the wagons will circle after the Dem convention. They have to if firing Obama in November is their goal.

          They just have to.

        • votermom says:

I agree – I hope the TP & GOP stay united until Obama is kicked out. They can have a free-for-all after if needed.

          Regarding that mystery guest tonight:

“barracuda43 37 minutes ago in reply to virginiagentleman1

But Virginia in all the confusion I forgot whether I fired five shots or six. Now being that this is a 44 magnum and will blow your head completely off. You have to ask yourself. Do you feel lucky? Well do you punk? Lol!”

Ah, the old lib FB friends are all abuzz with the endless lies from the POS Ryan. Amazing how you can see the flop sweat right through posts.

  4. Lulu says:

I just want to hear Obama and Biden spew this stuff during the debates and be called LIARS to their face by Romney/Ryan. No namby pamby that is not exactly true stuff but flat out you are lying through your teeth because that is all you got. It has progressed to the point that the media is not covering for Obama, they are covering for themselves because they bought into the marketing cult of Obama and their own creditability and careers (not to mention financial viability of their employers) is at stake. We are watching an institution, the media, in its current fat cat permutation, who thought Obama was one of them, implode and they are terrified.

    • carol haka says:

The media knew who Obama was. They are complicit in the cover-up to this day.

It’s time for Obama’s girlfriend that was shipped to the Island to be interviewed.

It’s time for that random drive-by shooting of the person who breached Obama’s Passport to be exposed.

It’s time for Obama’s school grades and financial assistance records to be produced.

It’s time for typical white Grannie to come out of hiding.

      👿 👿 👿

      • t says:

I’m not sure, but I think “typical white grannie” is actually dead now.

        • carol haka says:

Believing that would mean OLiar could actually have been telling the truth about something! Are you willing to step that far out on a limb?

      • cj says:

Which begs the question, why are they doing it? It’s not like they think he’s a nice guy, he’s as pissy to the press as he is to everyone else. It’s not because the drone killer’s policies are in any way “liberal,” if that’s what that’s how they lean.

By now they know his “cool” is just a narcissist’s indifference, and Mr. Corpse man’s intelligence is clearly not what it’s cracked up to be. So why the hell is the press willing to flush it’s credibility down the toilet for the jerk?

        • carol haka says:

Control and old habits and addictions are hard to give up!

They are as pathological as he is!

        • votermom says:

My serious answer would be I think their jobs are at stake – I think the media bosses are still behind Mr. Stimulus and they are calling the shots.

        • cj says:

Maybe. It’s just mystifying to me. I’ll tell you one thing, they better wake up fast and hope for a Romney win. Obamamania OVER & they’ll be wearing his second term around their necks like an albatross.

        • cj says:

Typing too fast…sorry for the mangled English.

        • yttik says:

I think part of it is that the media just loves dirty laundry. Obama is like one of those horrendous storms about to hit. Sometimes the media is practically salivating over the thought of all the death and destruction they’re going to get to report on, so you start to wonder if they hate you or something. Nobody should be that excited and feverish over some natural disaster that’s about to land, but the media often is.

Also many in the media are very liberal and their lives and income depend on President Obama. People like Matthews and Maddow would probably not have their jobs if Obama-support wasn’t a national pastime.

        • Lulu says:

All of the people whom I have known who are Obama supporters projected something about themselves on to him. Elitists thought he was one of them. Same for academics and lawyers. People who think they are super genius and will rise to great heights see the same thing. Con artist types and social climbers love him. The media sees themselves as super smart, elite educated, and socially superior. If Obama is seen to be a loser, fraud and basically can’t cut it so are they because it interferes with their own self image. The rejection of Obama by the masses is a rejection of them and it is causing some emotional difficulties for them. Obama is nothing special and neither are they.

        • WMCB says:

Lulu nailed it. I said back in 2008 that the koolaid kids (media included) didn’t really fall in love with Obama. He made them fall in love with themselves, with this fairytale vision of themselves as better, smarter, hipper, more enlightened than those bitter clingers.

It’s how con men operate. People think they seduce you into thinking they are all that. Nope. They seduce you into thinking YOU are all that, and that they see these wonderful things in you that no one else does. Obama didn’t sell them a vision of him. He sold them a vision of themselves.

    • votermom says:

Doesn’t the thought of the upcoming Biden – Ryan debate just make you grin?

50000 ordered evacuated for possible dam breach in mississippi.

That damn Romney will probably still give a speech tonight!

  6. yttik says:

I can’t nest this properly, but in response to CJ above who said,

“I don’t dislike Ryan, it’s just that I’m pretty sure SP wouldn’t push fiscal reform to the point where the middle class & the poor end up saying ouch.”

I’m a poor person, and ouch! Seriously, Obama and the Dems have “helped” me right into poverty. I honestly can’t survive four more years of their “help.”

“Fiscal reform” could actually make my life easier by opening up the job market, by stopping state and local Gov’s from nickel and diming us to death. Here I am poor and yet forced to pay sin taxes, green taxes, business taxes, and our new and improved mental health tax. Heaven help me when my Obamacare fines come due.
