DNC Night III – Obama Speechifies Again

I don’t know about you but if I gotta listen to him talk I gotta be drunk. Tune in early if you want to catch Hairplug Joe – they bumped the Vice Preezy from primetime. Lurch is supposed to audition for Hillary’s job too.

Thank (insert deity name here) this shit is almost over.

I am predicting a dead-cat bounce from this convention.

  3. I’m confessing now. I cannot watch ONE MORE MINUTE of the DNC.

My husband and I will be swimming laps during this speech.

    Love the dead donkey…..

  4. yttik says:

There simply isn’t enough drink in the whole world to wash this convention away. I’ll have to pass on the speechifying tonight.

  5. DeniseVB says:

According to this tweet, convention center has been closed to credentialed people, big crown building outside now. Is this the overflow from Panther Stadium’s move ?

  6. cj says:

I don’t think I can do it, the sound of his voice makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. Maybe I’ll try muting & watch the body language, or not.

We’re not alone. According to Woodward, when Obama went into a long, drawn-out lecture over the phone with Congressional Dems, N. Pelosi put him on mute & went on with the meeting and let him pontificate silently in the background.

  7. myiq2xu says:

For President Barack Obama, hope has become hang in there.

On the biggest stage of his re-election bid, Obama is dropping some tough love on voters, offering no fast solutions for a nation whose spirit has been sapped by economic insecurity.

“You didn’t elect me to tell you what you wanted to hear,” Obama said in excerpts of the speech he was delivering Thursday evening at the Democratic National Convention.

“You elected me,” he said, “to tell you the truth.”

    • lyn5 says:

      ROFLMAO! He’s already lying!

    • fif says:

ha ha ha. Yea, THAT’S why people elected him! No, they elected you because your lying team and the collaborative media sold a fairy tale to a desperate public who were so burnt out from Bush they were frantic to be rescued. The truth–right. When has this guy ever told the whole truth?

    • DandyTiger says:

      {spit take}

Sadly, he might even believe that.

  8. fif says:

I can’t wait until it’s over. Even avoiding it is stressful. What does it say about the Party when they have to exile the VP from Primetime? Seriously.

MTV Awards are about to start. The youth vote will watching that, not some gas bag gray haired liar. 👿 BTW, my Ryan’s company he built and sold for lots of money last year is up for multiple MTV awards. Ryan started his classes at NYU and is working with cutting edge software in a new program. He loves it. Still hasn’t found a place he wants to live long term. I am so happy for him. 👿

  14. wmcb says:

My husband came home flabbergasted today. Had conversation with new grad doc who got very offended that a) he doesn’t make as much as 25 year veteran doc hubby, and b) hubby told him “wanna make the big bucks? Work harder”.

Kid went on a long screed about how he is JUST as dedicated and works JUST as hard, and how DARE hubby say that he works harder than him!

The truth is that this young man works 30 to 40 hours a week, takes frequent vacations, rolls in at 9ish, rolls out at 3, turns down new admissions from the ER when he’s “too swamped” etc. My husband, meanwhile, starts doing his ICU rounds about 530 am, works 10 to 14 hour days 26 days a month, plus overnight call, and has taken exactly two week-long vacations in the 17 years I’ve known him. And he will take every patient the ER sends him, and stay til he’s done.

But the guy’s mindset was that it was monumentally “unfair” that hubby both makes more, and gets more specialist referrals from other docs, because they know how dedicated and hardworking he is. He thinks he should get the same number of referrals just because, because it would be “fair”. He is being slighted by not getting the same, and being treated exactly the same, as the doc who is busting his ass.

Hubby is like, “WTF is WRONG with these people?! Is this what the whole everyone-gets-a-trophy society has wrought? They live in fucking fantasyland!”

    • HELENK says:

but but he made it through medical school, they did not tell him that it not a 9 to 5 job with weekends and wednesdays off. It is all their fault for not telling him/ He is to make the big buck just because he is him

    • yttik says:

I know, it’s awful. What’s really bad is when kids start noticing that hard work is not being rewarded, because we have to be “fair” to everybody else.

    • SHV says:

That’s the norm coming out of Med. School. How do I make the most money with the least work and the best life style?

      • DM says:

Unfortunately these young graduates, because they make less money, are often put in places where they don’t belong, like trading billions of dollars in financial derivatives, sinking old institutions, like Bear Stearns, and Merrill. These are the same people who elected Obama because experience didn’t count.

    • fif says:

That is really scary…and epitomizes why BO is their model. Entitlement mentality minus the work ethic + self-righteous indignation.

    • Wow. Sounds like redistribution of wealth, without putting in the work.

But it’s not surprising. Apparently, your husband is seeing first hand what med schools are graduating nowadays.

So much potential. Hard work pays off. You reap what you sow.

DNC Lacking Same Delusional Magic It Had In 2008

CHARLOTTE, NC—With the 2012 Democratic National Convention now under way in Charlotte, Beltway observers are reporting that the mood inside the Time Warner Cable Arena remains spirited and optimistic, despite a noticeable lack of the delusional, completely-out-of-touch-with-reality magic that characterized the event four years ago.

Will the Democrats like Clyburn and Jackson take back and explain that they too took Bill Clinton’s word out of context when they smeared him as racist?

    Politico, 2008

to Bill Clinton dismissing Sen. Barack Obama’s image in the media as a “fairy tale” — generated outrage on black radio, black blogs and cable television. And now they’ve drawn the attention of prominent African-American politicians.

“A cross-section of voters are alarmed at the tenor of some of these statements,” said Obama spokeswoman Candice Tolliver, who said that Clinton would have to decide whether she owed anyone an apology.

  32. myiq2xu says:

Hairplug Joe would make a good revival preacher.

Those of us that grew up in Pentacostal churches are familiar with “revival meetings”

That’s where a visiting preacher gives a fire and brimstone sermon designed to pump people up.

This is in addition to the weekly sermons we sat through. If you were one of the faithful you sat through three sermons a week.

I guess that’s why I always thought speechifying was overrated.

  33. DeniseVB says:

Intro video for Obama. I’ll wait for the parody ones 😉

  34. DeniseVB says:

Michelle introducing Obama ? Sorry, won’t unMute. Guess so, here HE is ….

The place looks packed, nice optic. Last I heard on the guys shut out, it was a few hundred. Wouldn’t have filled a quarter of Panther Stadium.

    • leslie says:

She was breathless utterly, unbelievably breathless that the “love of her life” was about to enter the stage. that’s as far as I could stand it. I hit the mute button.

  43. DeniseVB says:

And it’s over. The girls have been prompted to smile and be happy I see. Unlike the past 4 years of scowling for the cameras. I think a raise in their allowances is on the line /snork.

O just hugged VP Fredo Corleone 🙂

Gonna unMute to listen to Megyn now…..

  53. leslie says:

Fortunately my daughter – the one who’s gonna get an absentee ballot cuz she moves back to IL mid-October – called and spared me the entire speech. God bless her.
She’s printing out her absentee ballot and voting against TehOnce.

    • Karma says:

Hmmm….printing out an absentee ballot…so is that how the IL dead vote so easily? Congrats on missing it…I missed it too. 😉

Only caught the last couple of sentences at the end but it was the look in his eyes that stood out. Not sure if I want to watch the speech and see how they got there.

But it certainly wasn’t hope or inspiration or the casual confidence that comes from accomplishment such as Clinton and Romney have in their eyes.

  54. JohnSmart says:

I am shocked by how lame BHO;s speech was. Really shocked.

    • fif says:

I just saw someone post on Facebook: “He nailed it!”

    • DeniseVB says:

Agree, probably because I’ve been following him so closely (waiting for a miracle?) for the last 5 years. Michelle too. Biden even longer. Total Fail all around 😦

    • angienc says:

Except for the red state/blue state 2004 DNC convention speech (which was merely OK, not the Gettysburg address as lore says) his speeches have all been lame, IMO. The only difference is that now that he has an actual record to run on and it sucks, people are forced to notice.

  55. leslie says:

Oh goodness, there are 461 tweets that I missed. Whatever shall I do now?

  56. HELENK says:
