Wednesday Afternoon Open Thread

I just barely got home. Everything went fine and we stopped at Chick-fil-A for lunch.

Let me get caught up on the news. Until then here is a fresh thread to play with.

      Just let em go. 🙂

      Glad the operation went well!

    • wmcb says:

Do NOT ever try tomcatch up on Twitter. It’s futile. Just scroll down about 800 tweets and go from there.

Oh, yea! – I just got to take a telephone NBC/Wall Street Journal poll regarding the upcoming election. As a former Dem; ’08 Hillary supporter who voted McCain; and now registered Independent voting for Romney, I really do get some satisfaction in taking these calls and letting my thoughts be known. Heh!

  2. Lulu says:

Yeah for your mom. Glad it went well. If she wanted lunch all is good.

  3. HELENK says:

I am so glad everything went well for your mom.

I’m confused. Who did Mitt Romney kill?

  6. gram cracker says:

LOL! Some people who have cataract surgery report how they didn’t realize how dirty their house was till after they had the new lens implants. My mom could see all my faults so much better after she had her cataracts removed.

  7. wmcb says:

Glad your mom’s procedure went well, myiq.

Obot friend on facebook is going full blown how inapprooooopriate and horrible of Mitt to criticize Obama when people are DEAD! Oh, the callousness and “politicizing”!! I replied thusly:

So was it inappropriate for Obama, while running for president, to blast Bush over casualty reports? After all, people were dead. Maybe he should have been told to shut up and not “politicize” the deaths. You have a double standard, Mike. Me I think it was fine to blast Bush, and fine to blast Obama.

Candidate John Kerry famously went after Bush’s Iraq policy in blistering terms on the very day that 7 marines were killed in a car bomb. I cheered him for doing so. I also think Romney has every right to go after Obama’s failed Middle East policy the day after the embassy attacks. Again, I am being consistent here. Obama doesn’t get special treatment from me.

  11. mcnorman says:

    Good news about your mom.

    • gram cracker says:

Just had to bring this up from last thread. I feel like ranting today.

“US ambassador killed in ‘co-ordinated al Qaeda revenge attack by terrorists who used Libyan Mohammed movie protest as cover”

So did Obama, Hillary and Cairo Embassy throw free speech under the bus for naught?

We still don’t even know what we don’t even know about these “spontaneous” eruptions that coincidently occurred on the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11. I’m going to hold my fire now till more is known.

That said, I believe that Romney’s response and actions in the last 24 hours have been appropriate and timely. If he said nothing he would be criticized and the press would have pressed him for a response.
The fix is in as far as the press is concerned so Romney might as well just be himself and do what he feels he needs to do.

Personally I think he comes off as having a more Presidential demeanor than does Obama. It is BS to say Romney should have said nothing until after Hillary dragged Obama’s arse out to the Rose garden to read his cue cards before he took his dog and donkey show on the road to Vegas.

  12. Glad your mom’s procedure went well.

FYI: An enterprising blogger cleaned up a mic mess from reporters this morning before the Romney presser and uncovered Journolister-style coordination to make this about Romney.

  13. Facebook influenced 2010 voter turnout? Republicans have a silent majority on FB? I thought Obama owned the social media /s

  14. cj says:

CNN: US sources: Attack was planned. So why was the WH caught so flat-footed? Why no evac plans on 9/10 ?

Difference is, the church can tell its adherents all day long they are damned if they do X. I could care less. Got nothing to do with the physical here and now. Christians gave up their barbarism and actual religious wars. Some haven’t.

and that’s because he’s already been to Disney World a bunch a times.

    • Is this a time for the press to criticize a *candidate* for president & not the fact that apparently these attacks were coordinated (since Aug 20) to happen on 9/11 and the WH possibly knew or, should have known, if Obama had attended his presidential daily briefings, and Obama had ensured that the Marines were guarding our diplomat????

The Chick-fil-A in Fresno is located 2 blocks from my old apartment. It’s next door to where the Krispy Kreme used to be. Hooters is a couple blocks farther.

I lived in that apartment for three years. The KK opened 2 months before I moved out. CFA and Hooters opened after I left.

    God hates me.

    • Captain Quark says:

No. God loves you and wants to keep you healthy. The Dude works in mysterious ways, or so they say.

    • Karma says:

Yeah. He might have been punking you, but that Chick-fil-A was probably one of the best meals your mom ever had after fasting so long for the surgery.

Glad to hear everything went well for your mom.

      • myiq2xu says:

Actually, my breakfast was even better. I got a cheesesteak sub from Full ‘O Bull. It’s not a Philly cheesesteak. Local place in Fresno-Clovis.

It’s a big heap of chopped beef steak and cheese on a sub roll with onions and tomato. Extra cholesterol on the side. Mmmmmmmm!

One Full ‘O Bull restaurant a few blocks from my old apartment. Another 2 blocks from my law school.

        I really miss Fresno.

(Next trip I’m stopping at Der Weinerdog for chilidogs.)

  25. gram cracker says:

One more long rant then I am done for awhile. Think I’ll go over to the Falls Church Dar Al-hijrah Islamic Center to see if they are using armed guards to ward off the angry hordes of Christian protesters. (snark)

Their late great Imam Anwar Al-Awlaki believed in exercising his free speech rights as an American. Remember him, he’s the one who used his free speech rights to recruit and inspire terrorists such as some of the 9/11 plane hijackers, the Christmas Day underwear bomber and the Fort Hood terrorist that the Obama Admin wants to label as just another case of work place violence. I could drone on, but you get the picture.

Back in 2001 shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11 “Imam Anwar Al-Awlaki of the Falls Church Dar Al-hijrah Islamic Center, answered questions and comments monitored by WaPo on Monday, Nov.19.

Alexandria, Va.: I saw your video on the Washington Post website this morning. Perhaps I am too biased as an American, but just what other avenues should or could the US have tried as opposed to as you put it – ‘rushing into this war’?

Imam Anwar Al-Awlaki: The Taliban repeatedly said: show us the evidence and we will turn over whoever is guilty with the crime. The US should have given them the benefit of the doubt. Also our government could have dealt with the terrorist attacks as a crime against America rather than a war against America. So the guilty would be tried and only them would be punished rather than bombing an already destroyed country.

I do not restrict myself to US media. I check out Aljazeerah and European media such as the BBC. I am seeing something that you are not seeing because of the one-sidedness of the US media. I see the carnage of Afghanistan. I see the innocent civilian deaths. That is why my opinion is different.

Keep in mind that I have no sympathy for whoever committed the crimes of Sep 11th. But that doesn’t mean that I would approve the killing of my Muslim brothers and sisters in Afghanistan. Even though this is a dissenting view nowadays but as an American I do have the right to have a contrary opinion.”

You lying POS you share in the responsibility for the carnage of many innocents. Maybe you should have thought of that before you became a tool for Al Qaeda.

  26. Glad all is well with your mom myiq…..

      The link says:

President Obama claims Libyan security forces fought beside Americans against attackers on Tuesday, but a Libyan official says they gave up consulate personnel to the Islamists who murdered them.
Libya’s Deputy Interior Minister Wanis al-Sharif says the consulate’s security forces moved Ambassador Christopher Stevens and other personnel to a second, safer building once the attacks began. But, he continues, the security forces told the attackers which building Stevens was hiding in, effectively handing him over.
According to Sharif, the attackers coming against the US embassy were “more heavily armed than the Libyan security personnel who were assigned to protect the U.S. Consulate.”

  30. wmcb says:

We went from fucking cowboy to fucking clueless. NOT an improvement.

  31. votermom says:

At least some Libyans are condemning the attack

    • yttik says:

      I bet Libyans are protesting.

I bet a whole lot of moderate Muslims who support freedom and democracy in the ME were more horrified to hear our wimpy response to this violence, than we in America were. They’re fighting for freedom and we’re supposed to be their ally, to have their backs.

  32. tommy says:

Never thought I’d say this, but I’m really missing cowboy Bush. If something like this transpired under his watch, Darth Cheney would be wielding his light-sabre and Bush would be chewing on the bones of those assassins. Instead we get Captain Dick trying to hold on to his Precious (the Presidency) while our ambassador gets slaughtered by those barbarians.

    • votermom says:

God help me, so am I.

    • wmcb says:

Bush’s problem wasn’t that he didn’t protect America. His problem was he went too far in doing that. But I understand how you are feeling right now.

Curiously enough, I always thought Reagan and JFK were both very good on foreign policy: Strong military, project TONS of strength, but don’t jump to use it too often.

    • mcnorman says:

Capt Dick wouldn’t be sitting pretty dictating to POTUS (as does Valerie Jarrett born in Shiraz who’s allegiance is questionable) how to make kissy face with the ME.

Glad you mom is ok…..just came back from a colonscopy procedure myself…one of those days…..on another note…
Romney was exactly right to criticize the “embassy statement” that went out too soon……THAT was “shooting before aiming”!!! Who, by the way, wrote that statement????The embassy staff? Hillary Clinton? Obama? Who? Why is no one asking that question? And talk about “shooting before aiming”….remember the cop issue in Boston? Obama’s comment about Trayvon Martin???? Geez…..

    • mcnorman says:

Yeah, now we send warships. That facility that was attacked was an “interim facility.” No bullet proof glass, just lock and key. Please oh please tell me how we can have an embassy without proper security? That is why Libyans were guarding the embassy. It is reported that 10 guards died during the attack. Lost the link. No one will say much about it, but there were people there. I’m very curious as to why the IT guy made that comment about “dying tonight” when he watched through a window people taking photographs?

  35. I am so sick of the lefty MSM criticizing Romney!!!! They are wrong and it’s going to come back to bite them!!! These terrorists don’t understand anything but brute force…..

  36. DeniseVB says:

On Hannity now, hundreds of protestors gathering outside the US Embassy in Cairo now. What could go wrong? Oh wait, there’s Obama giving a campaign speech in Vegas ! Malkin’s on a great rant….”my blood is boiling”

  37. DeniseVB says:

Coming up on Hannity, he’s going to cover the media conspiracy at Romney’s presser today. He promises we’ll be outraged ! Rage on !!

  38. DandyTiger says:

I’ll just say it, this is the most incompetent, pathetic president I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. The world will be a better place when he’s out of office. January 2013 can’t come soon enough.
