U.S. Distrust in Media Hits New High

Americans’ distrust in the media hit a new high this year, with 60% saying they have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly. Distrust is up from the past few years, when Americans were already more negative about the media than they had been in years prior to 2004.

It’s really no surprise, they threw their credibility away years ago. As my grandma used to say, “Nobody listens when the wind blows.

I thought this next graph was interesting. The “reality based community” trusts the media more than those conservative sheep do:

This is why Mittens hammering by the press is not making much of a dent. In 2008 part of the Obama campaign strategy was the free advertising, marketing, and advocacy by the media of which they did not have to pay for. Not only is the same strategy not working in 2012, the media is viewed with contempt. The number and efficacy of his attack dogs have fallen off which is not surprising since he won’t share any Democratic money with other office holders and only people paid by the campaign are appearing on TV and in press articles. His star marketing power is falling quickly, he is raising less and less money for himself, and he is running out of time. He needs more money this year than in 2008 to counter what has turned into a negative, press cheerleading, which he got for free last time. They did not imagine that the public would just tune out or laugh at the press. The ones that still consume media are already his supporters. He is screwed.

The “hammering” by the press is not making much of dent (arguable) because Mitt’s voters watch Fox News and listen to Rush. They don’t hear anything that might hurt Mitt’s chances without a dozen hyper-conservatives slanting the story and defending him six ways from Sunday.

They’re also not the brightest people in the world because they don’t understand that a huge number of them are in the 47% that Mitt considers to be parasites.

The shocker to me is that close to 60% of the Democrats swallow hook, line and sinker what the media throws their way. It’s then understandable why the Democrats or leaning Democrats have bought into the caricature of Romney that Obama, with the help of the media, created.

The Democrats think that the Republicans are stupid.

The Democrats think that the Republicans are stupid.

      Ironic huh?

That also explains the higher ratings for the DNC convention and and Obama’s convention bounce

    • Constance says:

I still think that many people who are so stupid they believe the Corporate Media will be too stupid to find their polling place on election day. It’s not that simple to vote.

  3. Perhaps the D’s trust the media more because they are being told what they want to hear.

    Froggy at Blackfive:

I had the privilege of attending Ty Woods’ funeral this morning at the North Island Naval Air Station Chapel in Coronado. Ty and Glen Doherty are former SEALs and State Department contractors who came to the aid of the US Ambassador to Libya during the attack on the Benghazi Consulate. Ty and Glen were not assigned to the Ambassador’s security detail. However, when the attack against the Consulate came, they ran toward the sound of gunfire and and defended the facility and the Ambassador for several hours against a numerically superior assault force, and went out like rock stars after planting dozens of those scumbags.

Ty’s widow, Dorothy, delivered an inspiring eulogy with more grace, poise, and fervor than I have ever witnessed from the spouse of a fallen warrior. I wish I had the entire thing on tape, as it should be read by the nation on the anniversary of 9/11 next year. Here are two quotes that I will never forget.

“It is easy to write a book about being a Navy SEAL, but it is very hard to write an obituary for one.”

“To all the Operators here today I give you this charge: Rid the world of those savages. I’ll say it again, RID THE WORLD OF THOSE SAVAGES!”

This protest is not being shown much in the media.

“We want justice for Chris,” read one sign among the estimated 30,000 Libyans, including families, who marched into Benghazi’s main square on Friday to protest in front of the chief encampment of Ansar al-Sharia. Some held signs reading “The ambassador was Libya’s friend” and “Libya lost a friend.” Many protesters carried Libyan flags, and government police officers could be seen mingling with the marchers. ”

Best quote is from Bryan Preston at pjmedia: “The bottom line is, if you distrust the mainstream media, it’s because you’ve been paying attention.”

Iran and Iraq (before 2002) have had the best educated women in the ME muslim world. It’s stupid to stop the women from getting certain degrees, and for the wrong reasons, imho.

Human rights groups have urged Iran to lift restrictions on women attending university and enrolling in certain academic fields.

Thirty-six universities across Iran have banned women from 77 different majors, including accounting, counselling, and engineering, for the school year that begins on Saturday, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported in August.

There was no official reason given for the move, but Iranian officials have expressed alarm in recent months about the country’s declining birth and marriage rates, seen as partially caused by women’s rising educational attainment in the last two decades.

“She didn’t talk about anything,” McCain said of Clinton in a subsequent interview.

Senators asked Clinton about the sequence of events during the Benghazi attack. She and other officials declined to provide any specifics, citing an ongoing investigation.”

I was thinkgin about our SoS an hour ago while on my way home from the market. I was feeling disappointed and then decided that I was being hasty. until I read this article.

Now I am disappointed and hope that something reasonable got in her way of being open with (at least) the Armed Services Panel and the Senators who need to be informed. Right now, I’m going to run more errands and hope this has all been a figment of my imagination and I’ll find out later that I wrote an imbicilic comment that had nothing to do with anything.

So, you’re still terrified by opposing opinions, Myiqx2. Maybe, you always have been.
