It has a lot to do with the cover-up though!

Obama: Election ‘has nothing to do’ with Libya deaths

President Obama again on Friday defended his administration’s handling of the attack that killed four Americans in Libya, and said he’s not holding back information ahead of Election Day.

“The election has nothing to do with four brave Americans getting killed and us wanting to find out exactly what happened,” Obama said in an interview with KUSA, the NBC affiliate in Denver.

“Nobody wants to find out more what happened than I do. But we want to make sure we get it right, particularly because I’ve made a commitment to the families impacted as well as the American people, we’re going to bring those folks to justice,” he said in one of several interviews with local TV stations in battleground states that he sat for Friday afternoon at Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington.

Pressed twice during the KUSA interview, Obama wouldn’t address a Friday report suggesting that the Americans in Benghazi asked for more assistance as the Sept. 11 attack was taking place, and instead stressed that his administration is engaged in a thorough investigation.

On Thursday, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said the military didn’t send forces in during the attack on the U.S. Consulate because there was “no real-time information” to act on. “You don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on” and military brass “felt we could not put forces at risk in that situation,” he said.

What were they waiting for, CNN reporters to go in and check things out first? Oh, wait – they did that. We didn’t have “boots on the ground” in Benghazi for over three weeks after the attack – something to do with needing tourist visas or something.

Once upon a time (like 1979) a president would have had very limited options in a situation like this one. Times have changed. We now have plans and people in place to deal with exactly these types of things.

First of all, the attack in Benghazi lasted almost seven hours. Within minutes of the start of the attack they hit the panic button in Benghazi, which triggers an alert that rings in several places, including a regional operations center and situation rooms in the Pentagon, at Langley, the State Department and the White House. Those places are always manned and operating.

At various locations around the world we have military troops ready for action at a moment’s notice 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Some of them are sitting in underground silos and in submarines, ready to launch nuclear missiles if the president gives the order. Some of them are sitting in jet fighters with the motors idling, ready to take off and engage enemy planes. And some of them are sitting in ready rooms, waiting to be sent into uncertain and dangerous situations and rescue our people who are in trouble.

This latter group are the most elite military forces in the world. They are trained and equipped for missions like this. Even a small group of them can be formidable. We could have had them on the ground in Benghazi within four hours – even if they had to parachute in.

It’s not like our guys would have been going in blind. Early on in Benghazi we had first one and then a second Predator drone flying overhead and relaying intelligence. We were in communication with the Benghazi consulate and with the nearby CIA annex. Within a couple hours we had a AC-130 Spectre Gunship circling above the consulate.

Not only that, but one of the missions our special operations troops are trained for is reconnaissance. They are the guys you send in when you don’t know what the hell is happening on the ground. But we didn’t send them.

The question is why not?

When Rush says,”Somebody somewhere resisted to make a gutsy call”, I want to pound my head on the wall. Since when is following protocol “gutsy” ? Isn’t the reason for having what we call “protocol” so that the call is automatic and not “gutsy” or even a question? I am beyond angry. I am beyond being “nice” any longer about this utterly miserable POS currently residing in the WH. BHO has a job and refuses to do it. Where the eff was he? And if he wasn’t available or was otherwise indisposed, we have a VPOTUS (that other POS Biden) who is supposed to do something other than drink, diddle, or insult fathers who just lost their sons and daughters due to this administration’s effing stupidity or politics.

I don’t know why these 2 haven’t been impeached or dragged out of DC and left on a stretch of desert somewhere. Why isn’t there a mob outside the WH ranting and raving and calling for impeachment???

  2. But, but, but, you see – it really didn’t happen like that, according to Mother Jones! And of course, Mommie Dearest knows best!

@MotherJones Email used to accuse White House of Libya “coverup” turns out to have been incorrect:

And of course they would know. If you can even make sense of this article. Maybe I need more coffee.

Apparently MoJo consulted an astrologer and got a second opinion.

      • mcnorman says:

No, that would be scientific. MoJo just “feels” stuff. There were two drones that were immediately sent into the area. They have video. Will Barry et al release? Well, we can wait for the second coming on that one.

    • DM says:

And the emails contradict the facts, as laid out by the State Department that there were no demonstrators before the attack. Could it be that the emails were sent after the fact? No one has disputed that the State Department’s version is wrong. Hillary went one step further and stated that everyone had the same information. I’ve read many comments here that she has been part of the cover up. Nonsense. The truth we know is because the State Department released it.

  3. Lulu says:

Everything they do has to have a payback for them. If their is no profit or political benefit they cannot be bothered. Obama screwed off and dithered with the Gulf oil spill. The same thing with this. If one of his bundlers wants something they are ushered right into the White House to meet with Jarrett to get their tax break, regulatory exemption or whatever they want. Everything else has to wait until they see it is going to either have a payback or cause a problem. This little contretemps in Benghazi happened at a inopportune time during an election and no one there had a fist full of dollars to throw at them. This White House is stupid, lazy, and extremely short sighted.

  4. conner43 says:

lulu, you are two kind, they are traitors and murderers, but we already knew that about Axeman and Valjar didn’t we ?
They pull the strings and this latest mess has their names all over it. They give the orders, their boy obeys.

  5. Constance says:

Well it could be the President didn’t react to the attack in Benghazi because it was expected or arranged and he considered the attackers friends. It seems to have been set up what with stupidly leaving the Ambassador without protection. The White house cover up story included the concept of a mob being out of control, it could be the mob was Egyptian soldiers conducting an planned kidnapping raid who ran into unexpected resistance and then escalated out of control. They did not refer to terrorists or it being a terrorist attack in their initial cover up story possibly because they knew it wasn’t….it was possibly a set up kidnapping instead that went very wrong. Once the (possibly)Egyptian soldiers were attacked during their kidnap attempt they got pissed off and chased the Americans back to the CIA building to finish the fight. Still there had to be a bunch of dead among the “terrorist/random mob/Egyptian soldiers so who were they, who claimed the bodies. Why was a man known to have attacked the US embassy wandering around free in Egypt only to have his death reported last week in American newspapers who have mostly ignored this story, and who was he, a soldier?

I really think any “news” outlet who refuses to cover this story now has made the choice not to cover it in the future if Obama is reelected. A lot of the stupid voters will be really mad when/if it becomes clear to them that this was known before the election.

    • mcnorman says:

No one is talking about the three Libyans that they caught and held. During the email echanges, they were told to release them. I heard Griffin from Fox say that her source was the Pentagon.

  6. tommy says:

Dana Milbank on the bromance between WJC and BHO : WJC is a shrewd strategist. He is already looking at 2016. By then, the economy would have recovered and be steaming ahead whoever the Preezy is. The only way HRC can compete is if BHO wins now. If Romney is elected, it’ll be difficult to beat him in 2016, with a stable economy behind him. HRC to serve as SoS in BHO second term to repair damage caused by the Libyan debacle. And then, run in 2016. My take : Jeez Dana, such convolutions. WJC isn’t looking so far ahead. You make him sound like a scheming whatever. He ain’t trying to take over the world. Get over yourself and stop the delusions.

    • Constance says:

There is going to be economic problems that won’t go away and I don’t think Obama has the ability to recognize them or deal with them. I know around 10 people over 55 who lost their career jobs in this depression who either aren’t working or are in low paying jobs (retail, mowing lawns, cat sitting) they have lost the equity in their houses, what money they have saved during their life barely gets 1% interest and every time they have invested in the stock market they get wiped out. So what is society going to do with these people? Step over them when they are out on the sidewalk? We are a broke country and we can;t raise the Social Security payments in fact we can’t afford to pay the rates we now promise. If Obama wins 4 more years I don’t believe the economy will be in recovery and I think it will be only slightly better with Romney.

  7. Mary says:

So…..the standard policy is such situations IS to go in and help. In order for it not to be followed, a HIGH UP decision had to be made, consciously, to say no.

Petraeus has already said it was NOT the CIA who made that decision (carefully worded, of course, to subtly point elsewhere, and deservingly).

If we go by previous decision making, as in going in after Osama Bin Laden, the POLITICAL team discussed and advised Preezy, including Valerie Jarrett—-we know that because Preezy said no, on the first 2 or 3 opportunities.

I fully believe that the decision was made for political/election reasons, in case a catastrophe occurred and it reflected badly on Preezy right before the election.

Essentially, he sacrificed these men for political reasons.

Absolutely despicable. One can only imagine the despair that our military forces are feeling around the world hearing these new details about their CIC, or how family members with loved ones serving are feeling , too—-including in my own family.

      Flabbergasting, isn’t it?

  8. yttik says:

“….we’re going to bring those folks to justice..”

“Folks”? Seriously, he called them folks? The American people are folks. The people who attacked the embassy are terrorists, murderers, whatever you want to call them, but they aren’t folks.

    • i hate with the burning passion of ten thousand suns the term “folks”

condescending, pandering, moronic, cliched expression used only by dipshit orators who have no original thoughts or ability to coin even the most mundane and prosaic turn of phrase.

      i HATE that word!!!!

      • yttik says:

I can’t believe he’d use the same word to describe voters as he would use to describe terrorists! Makes you think he doesn’t have a very high opinion of voters. We’re just “folks,” you know, like terrorists and murderers are just folks.

      • Constance says:

Again indicating a friendly demeanor towards the people involved in the Benghazi attack on our Ambassador.

      • Constance says:

We know Obama will verbally attack people he considers a threat to his power, Hillary, Palin, Romney etc…. but no verbal attack on the Benghazi embassy attackers he in fact even shows a friendly demeanor, so he doesn’t consider them a personal threat. What sort of person doesn’t consider terrorists a personal threat? A person who knows who the attackers were and expected them.

    • mcnorman says:

The terrorists are folks, but the four dead are bumps in the road. Go figure.

      • yttik says:

I know! I’m supposed to be a bitter clinger racist tea bagger, but those who murdered our ambassador are just “folks.”

    • myiq2xu says:

So we blow up the folks we think did it, and in the process we kill some other folks, making us more enemies than we had before.

  9. DandyTiger says:

What if watergate happened and nobody cared.

    • jjmtacoma says:

I think if Watergate happened today “nobody” would care. It would hit the news cycle for a couple days and then it would be played off as strategy for game time. Nixon probably wouldn’t be interviewed for more than a couple questions.

It seems like the political angle is more important than the moral angle.

  10. ME says:

Well he told you all in 2008 that he will stand on the side of Islam, he certainly has kept his promise. At the UN he said that the future MUST not belong to those who insult the prophet and he showed contempt for the First Amendment Why is the American president implicitly supporting blashphemy laws? Why did the SOS tell Ty Wood’s father that America will prosecute and jail the video maker?

So he says Libya isn’t an election issue? What an awful statement to make. It’s not about the election. It’s about the death of an Ambassador and four other Americans and why they were left to die with no help. I guess he thinks if he wins the election it’s going to go away. Well, it won’t. There are people leaking info to the press because THEY want the truth to come out. Is the death of an American ambassador an act of war? He didn’t even address the American people about it. Veterans for a Secure America has a YouTube channel and they talk about how Obama’s leaks are endangering Americans and those non-Americans who aid us.

Occam’s razor: Obama put out a political ad touting the death of bin laden and how Romney wouldn’t have made the call. His campaign and the DNC’s talking points have previously been that Al Queda is dead and on the run. It was his administration that went to war with Libya, he owns it just as Bush owns the start of the Iraq war. If I remember correctly, congress was not in agreement with the war with Libya and Obama did not plan for what was to replace Quadaffi. All of his decisions around Libya have been about his re-election campaign. Just as every decision he has made in office has been about he ability to be re-elected. There is a more sinister/tin foil hat explanation but it makes me sick to my stomach.

I can’t believe there are Americans who don’t care about what happened. Why weren’t they given any help?

  11. DeniseVB says:

St. Reagan politically survived the Marine Barracks bombing in ’83 and later, after he pulled the Marines out for good (my husband’s battalion at the time), the embassy was again struck seriously wounding the Ambassador and killing several others … they were using local contract security also. My husband was not surprised it all went to hell after the U.S. troops left.

Almost 30 years later, what have we learned ? It’s obvious no help was sent in because they wanted to keep the U.S. casualities to a minimum……which was 4.

It was political then, and as husband says, it’s worse now. From the field generals and commanders all the way up to Preezy.

  12. myiq2xu says:

FLOTUS: No Part Of Me Would Not Be ‘Bummed’ If We Lose

JIMMY KIMMEL: Any part of you that wouldn’t be so bummed if you don’t win this time around?

    MICHELLE OBAMA: Absolutely not.

JIMMY KIMMEL: None, not at all? Because this seems Iike a big hassle. I would hate to be the First Lady, I would be a very bad First Lady.

MICHELLE OBAMA: Being president is much harder.

MICHELLE OBAMA: So I have a different vantage point. But this is about our kids and about our future. So, even when Barack talked about entering politics period, I was very hesitant for the very same reasons. Your life is no longer your own, how do you raise your kids? But then I thought about the kind of person to lead the country and to deny him that right would be selfish, so we’re in it!

    Wait, WTF?

I don’t believe for one second Meechele wanted the role of first lady. She wanted the lifestyle of the rich and shameless, but she’s never seemed like someone who loves the world of politics. Unlike dear leader. I think she’s actually looking forward to it being over. They’re set for life now. She’ll always get into the best places, dine with the best people and have those willing to grovel at her feet. And I think that’s all she’s ever wanted.
The one on the other hand….yeah if I cared, I’d be worrying about his sanity once he’s out of the lime light. As someone who needs constant adulation and the need for self-importance to be recognized, he’s in for a loooooong road ahead of obscurity. Really, who beside the B-lister celeb is going to be calling him? I don’t foresee too many people asking him to campaign on their behalf in future elections. Or him garnering epic crowds on any future book tours or speaking engagements. And I sure as hell don’t see him actually working on any causes like other Prezzes have done (actually, I could have ended this sentence with just “see him actually working”). Especially since he doesn’t believe in anything other than the glory of himself. And how many biographies can he have someone else pen for him to push on talkshows, or personal museums filled with butter sculptures of himself to attend the grand opening of?
Yes, for Barry, the future looks kinda scary!

  15. trist says:

This whole thing is just so, so sickening. And every bit of new info on it just makes it worse!

I mean these guys ran to help against orders, and without concern for themselves because it was the RIGHT thing to do. I think about Malala Yousufzai who was shot and I don’t think if she knew it would happen she would have for one second thought of remaining silent on fighting for not just women’s rights but human rights because it was the RIGHT thing to do. And then you look at the assholes in charge here…especially the one at the top. Thinking himself a god/king on earth, who has never once lifted a finger for anyone unless there was something he was going to personally gain from it. And often times seeming to go out of his was to do not just the wrong thing, but the WORST thing possible! I just…it literally makes me shake with rage!

Among other things, I want to hear Hillary explain what the Father of one if the agents said, about arresting the video guy. Why would she say that? I really can’t understand her part in all this. And we keep getting all these purposely mixed messages and accounts from all of them. They were only going on the info they currently knew. Yet, we now see there’s evidence no riot was even taking place at the consulate. So no one ever told them that. Yet not only did they peddle that lie, but Hillary tells the father they’re going after an uninvolved American citizen?!? This is not behavior I would have ever expected from her. What has happened?

I don’t see anyone ever being held accountable for this. With the corrupt media’s help they’ll suppress it until after the election when 1 of 2 things will happen, god forbid he ekes out a win, and they scapegoat someone low on the totem poll. Declare they’ve gotten the “folks” responsible and move on. Or 2 Romney gets in. The media immediately works keeping him on the defensive by painting what ever he does in as negative light as possible. Plus people in general are going to want him devoting all his time on fixing the economy like he said he would and not pursuing people who are no longer in office. The world is going to move on from this either way.

That is until some of them connected with this come out with their tell all books in a year or two of what “really” happened. So not only will they escape punishment, they’ll most likely profit off it.

    Like I said, it’s sickening!
