This Just Keeps Getting Better And Better

Ace of Spades:

Are You Effing Kidding Me With This Right Now?

Um… so I’m just gonna throw this up now.

Jill Kelley, the woman who was (allegedly) threatened by Gen. Petraeus’s squeeze Paula Broadwell and who (apparently) started the FBI investigation that led to Petraeus’ ouster, who went to the FBI for help after the threats and then (allegedly) had a relationship with the FBI agent in charge of her own case, who (allegedly) sent her shirtless pics of himself, also (apparently, allegedly) had “compromising” communications with Gen. John Allen, the Big Damn Commander of our war effort in Afghanistan.

You can’t even make this shit up. It’s not a love triangle. It’s a love Pentagon.

Allen, a four-star Marine general, succeeded Petraeus as the top American commander in Afghanistan in July 2011.

The senior official, who discussed the matter only on condition of anonymity because it is under investigation, said Panetta believed it was prudent to launch a Pentagon investigation, although the official would not explain the nature of Allen’s problematic communications.

The official said 20,000 to 30,000 pages of emails and other documents from Allen’s communications with Kelley between 2010 and 2012 are under review. He would not say whether they involved sexual matters or whether they are thought to include unauthorized disclosures of classified information. He said he did not know whether Petraeus is mentioned in the emails.

“Gen. Allen disputes that he has engaged in any wrongdoing in this matter,” the official said. He said Allen currently is in Washington.

Twenty to thirty THOUSAND pages? I write for a living and I can tell you that I haven’t written twenty to thirty thousand pages in my working career. Cheese-and-crackers, that’s a damn lot of love letters. I’ve never liked anyone enough EVER to spend that much time talking to them. Eesh.

The inescapable rule of affairs just ran into the first rule of spycraft. The rule of affairs is that there is never just one. You cheat, that makes you a cheater. It never just happens once.

These generals really need to get control of their privates. It’s becoming a major problem.

If you believe David Petraeus really resigned as CIA director over an extramarital affair, you probably also believe that Muhammad filmmaker Mark Basseley Youssef is in prison because of a parole violation. It is much more likely that both Petraeus and Youssef herald the dawning of a new style in American politics – or else Barack Obama is the luckiest man alive.

This is starting to look like the Stalinist purges.

    • DM says:

Yup. Does it sound like someone wants old time guards out of the way to put his own in place? It seems that this kind of investigations are normally internal to avoid injuring reputations, and then made public if needed.

    • Yup. I called it a few days ago. ValJar was not kidding when she talked about payback. For once Ulsterman was spot on.

          http://www.albawaba.com/news/petraeus-affair-cia-lebanon-450806

Civilian casualties in Iraq and a failed offensive in Afghanistan did nothing to dent his reputation, but the emails of his mistress have forced the resignation of CIA director, David Petraeus.

Ironically for the superpower’s intelligence services, the woman behind the crisis is none other than an Arab ‘social liaison’ with a penchant for parties and the charm to flaw American men.

According to U.S. news sources, Jill Kelley, a Lebanese Maronite whose family moved to Philadelphia in the 1970s, was allegedly approached by Petraeus’s lover, Paula Broadwell, telling her to stay away from her man. Although the General insists his relationship with Kelley was only ever platonic, his mistress clearly felt her Levantine sex appeal was too much to handle…

BREAKING — IT’S A DRAMA AT THE PENTAGON!!!

A Pentagon source says the top American commander in Afghanistan, Gen. John Allen, is under investigation for alleged “inappropriate communications” with Jill Kelley, the woman said to have received threatening emails from Paula Broadwell, the woman with whom former CIA Director David Petraeus had an extramarital affair.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the FBI referred a “matter” to the Pentagon on Sunday. Panetta says he ordered a Pentagon investigation of Allen on Monday.

A senior defense official, who discussed the matter only on condition of anonymity because it is under investigation, said Allen’s communications were with Kelley, who has been described as an unpaid social liaison at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., which is headquarters to the U.S. Central Command.

The official says the communications were in the form of emails.

Petraeus resigned as CIA director on Friday.

The Pentagon says Allen’s nomination to be NATO’s supreme allied commander now on hold due to the investigation.

When I awoke to the news about General Allen, the first thing that popped into my head was the eery similarities to the Stalinist purges.

A close second was wondering if Jill Kelley was getting free birth control, because gosh she’s busier than Sandra Fluke.

    • And a box full of new toys to distract the media doesn’t hurt either. Looks like somebody got their unicorns.

    • soupcity says:

Looks like Obama’s Jack Ryan destruction on steroids.

      • cj says:

The media’s going to try to limit this to the generals, the CIA & FBI. I was never a big fan of Petraeus to begin with, but this hit job is ridiculous:

“Petraeus was so convincing on Baghdad that he manipulated President Obama into trying the same thing in Kabul. In Afghanistan, he first underhandedly pushed the White House into escalating the war in September 2009 (calling up columnists to “box” the president in) and waged a full-on leak campaign to undermine the White House policy process. Petraeus famously warned his staff that the White House was “fucking” with the wrong guy.”

        http://www.buzzfeed.com/mhastings/the-sins-of-general-david-petraeus

Obama the wide-eyed innocent, manipulated? Underhandedly pushed? Gag me.

  6. At risk of well paraphrasing, well…you’ll see…

I had Glenn Beck on in the car yesterday and he was saying that the “last piece of the puzzle” in the Commie/Alynski playbook is to discredit the military so the people have no faith in them. Then, replace them with those who you can control.

Look like the Soviet Purge is underway in an “overwhelm the system” type of approach.

NOT letting these guys off the hook if they are guilty – BUT – they didn’t START being guilty this past Wednesday. All was seemingly kept under wraps until Obama was safely re-ensconced in the Empty Chair.

    Look for more of this.

The only thing I can hope for is they will overplay their hand and American’s will wake up for five minutes and see what’s going on.

    Holder has “agreed to stay”
    Susan Rice for SoS
    Kerry for DoD
Don’t be surprised if Jarrett is nominated for CIA….

    • We have a WINNER!
Yup. Discredit and disgrace the military. Next thing will be activating that nasty civilian corps hiding in the bill we had to pass to find out what was in it.

    • leslie says:

This is freaking scary. I knew Bronco was a tool, but who knew just how much of a tool he was. No wonder he was crying. I’d be crying too. I wonder just how and with whom they threatened him.

No one where I work is even remotely aware of any of this. We are all working so darn hard trying to make “more money for the state” that I’m up at 4:30 finishing work that I couldn’t get to yesterday. And I have to get ready for work again now so it can start all over again in a couple of hours.

    • DeniseVB says:

Beck has been scary correct about a lot of things. He had a few of the administration’s scalps on his belt before he was driven off Fox, but he hasn’t been silenced …. and he’s a lot richer too (has more subscribers to his internet show than Oprah’s network has viewers).

I’m going to buy stock in Alcoa 😉

    • catarina says:

      Jarret already IS the CIA

    • Constance says:

In my eyes this doesn’t really discredit these guys. It does get them out of Obama’s way though. But when they talk, people will still believe what they say. And some married men who have affairs are targets for blackmail just like some Gay people are targets for blackmail. But Petreaus has been married for 39 years, odds are the thrill has been gone for a long time, he and his wife have been separated for many years due to his career. I would guess she doesn’t care and knew, meaning he wasn’t a target for blackmail. She is the mother of his kids and gets the perks of being a big shots wife but she probably isn’t into monitoring his day to day activities. Hi Mistress doesn’t look like she is capable of discretion so I doubt this is surprising to many people.

Its looking like our military leaders are falling by the minute. Is it because they refuse to fall in line with the stories coming outta the WH?

    • AS I say, look for more – with or without excuses. That being said, if these guys can’t keep their dicks in their pants while conducting a few wars, we are in trouble,

Also, look like the FBI can read EVERYONE’S E-mails. Scare tactics and warnings for all Americans opposed to the O?

    • DeniseVB says:

They swear to an oath to protect us from foreign and domestic enemies, why not sing like canaries about threats from the Obama Admin goons who possibly blackmailed Petraeus ?

      • As I say, if Obama overplays Jarret’s hand, I believe they will. Notice HRC is again on the other side of the world? Maybe she has been threatened too. Would explain Bill’s campaigning like a madman.

      • Because they can be disappeared under the new detention laws. All those reams of paper they sign about non disclose of National Security secrets etc. I am no fan of Bradley Manning or wikileaks- but look what happened to him.
They can be held with no contact with the outside world and no rights forever.
We might need them on the outside to help us if the shit hits the fan lol.

        • Was listening to a new (here) radio show last night in bed. It comes on before Coast-to-Coast AM and is called Ground Zero. It’s lame a lot of the time so far – not nearly as good as C-2-C, but last night, to a person, all the callers were now fearing civil war, and that the Government had declared it on US first.

Shutting down the drilling in the Gulf
          The Arizona Immigration lawsuit
The Boeing South Carolina move threats and lawsuits
and a few others I heard before i drifted off.

But there was a palpable sense that Americans not on board with O are afraid of what is next.

    • Constance says:

Don’t forget the two active duty guys who were let go right before the election. I don’t remember their names. but one commanded a ship in the Middle East.

    • Glennmcgahee says:

‘”The first thing he will have to focus on is the balance sheet,” Barclay’s analyst Kannan Venkateshwar said of Thompson’s priorities.

Analysts widely expect the company to reinstate a dividend since it will end the year with about $1 billion in cash, due in part to sales of some of its newspapers and its digital group About.com. Debt is about $700 million and therefore is very manageable in the context of cash, Venkateshwar said.

Beyond the balance sheet, Thompson will have to tackle the declining advertising revenue in both print and digital while convincing readers to pay more for its products.’

Maybe the US gov’t can provide some stimulus money or perhaps a “bailout”. They are too big to fail ya know.

I went to OWS (well it was sort of on the way to the 9-11 Memorial). I picked a bad time, the cops were dragging them off. That was pretty cool 😉 Too bad OWS didn’t have a clear message for the obscene amount of media coverage they got.

      • Lulu says:

You are welcome. Get your credit card limits raised to cover the premiums then you are all set. Seriously, they should have been working on implementation since the day after this POS was passed. They were going to dump it on the states, employers and insurers to cover the cost of implementation. Then they were going to blame them when it was screwed up. The computer system alone will cost I’m guessing $75B (sys adm son guessed much more without the cost of copyrighted software which would run it higher). The IRS software to enforce it isn’t in place either which is why they are balking at doing it. We are looking at epic failure which will be Obama’s since he won a second term. No one in this administration has any idea of the magnitude of this. The confusion, delays, cost, harm is incalculable.
