The Best Movie To Never Win An Oscar

Seriously, how did this movie not get at least a nomination? The Academy Awards are rigged.

There’s never been a sci fi or horror film EVER to win Best Picture Oscar. KKFOS was actually very campy and funny…but all those great sci fi movies over the years never to win an Oscar!!! Not right.

Actually The Silence of the Lambs is considered “horror” & it won Best Picture.

Wiki definition of “horror film” genre — you can see The Silence of the Lambs obviously fits it:

Horror is a film genre seeking to elicit a negative emotional reaction from viewers by playing on the audience’s primal fears. They often feature scenes that startle the viewer, the macabre and the supernatural are frequent themes. Thus they may overlap with the fantasy, supernatural, and thriller genres.

Horror films often deal with the viewer’s nightmares, hidden fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Plots within the horror genre often involve the intrusion of an evil force, event, or personage, commonly of supernatural origin, into the everyday world. Prevalent elements include ghosts, aliens, vampires, werewolves, curses, satanism, demons, gore, torture, vicious animals, monsters, zombies, cannibals, and serial killers.

Well, actually, IMDb, the repository of all film info, refers to Silence of the Lambs as a Crime/Drama/Thriller….Wiki calls it a Thriller. Writers who refer to it as a Horror genre usually do so as a horror slash something else as in Horror/Thriller. Actually though as I recall, it did win an award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror as best picture. The other film that sometimes gets mentioned as a Horror film that won an Oscar is the 1941 Hitchock film, Rebecca, but I wouldn’t really call that Horror either, it was more psychological film noir thriller. Still though, and however you wanna slice it, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, is definitely Sci Fi Horror and horrible to boot and I don’t think either Silence or Rebecca were “horrible”. Now then, the film most likely to challenge KKFOS for any award was probably the earlier 1964 cinematic outing, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians….now why wasn’t that a holiday season blockbuster and Oscar winner???

Yeah, The Silence of the Lambs is often characterized as thriller — and often the two genres (horror/thriller) overlap, but it’s definitely a horror film and, in fact, the only true horror film to win Best Picture (I agree Rebecca is not horror — it is a suspense-thriller). There are definitely elements of crime-thriller in Silence of the Lambs, but the cannibalism & serial killer aspects, central to the story line, makes it horror.

And as you point out — it was awarded Best Horror Film of the Year by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror — that’s definitive as to its genre being horror — regardless of how wiki or IMDB lists it.

With that TD pass by Peyton Manning, he joins Brett Favre as the only QBs in NFL history to throw 30 or more TD passes in 7 seasons

Michigan going Right To Work. Unions there going ballistic. I gotta hand it to the pubs. When they really decide to do something, they steamroll the opposition.

Actually, the vote in the MI House makes me wonder how this impacts the narrative that Romney was KAH-RAY-ZEE to think he had a shot in MI & that his internals were junk.

Of course, this is probably just another in a long list of things we are supposed to pretend doesn’t cast any doubt whatsoever on the election results. Better to just turn on the TV — Honey Boo Boo is on.

Are you certain this isn’t driving to Ocean City for vacation ?

      • HELENK says:

        Maryland or Jersey?????

        • swanspirit says:

Maryland , but many of our “drivers” have Jersey tags . Stats say the Pennsylvania drivers have the most accidents , but we have thousands of Russians here now ; Russian kids come over to work summer jobs and stay , so the Russian accent is familar 🙂

because I worked such strange hours and sometimes did not have enough time with my kids, I used to take each one of them on a weekend away, just the two of us. My youngest daughter wanted to go to Ocean City MD. At that time I did not drive so we took the bus. It was the bus ride to remember. There were two guys who just got out of prison and were discussing what they were going to do to their wives when they got home. I am trying to keep and eight year old busy so she would not pay attention. There were a couple of nuns on the bus and these two guys got into a discussion about them also. Then they started pointing out all the places you could buy drugs in the states of Delaware and Maryland. If I were a narc, I would have more information then I ever needed to make busts.

Ocean City itself is beautiful and a great place to go for a vacation but I would drive rather than take the bus.

LOL, the last time we were in LA my husband insisted on driving and showing off. He kept lecturing me about how you have to keep up with traffic and do 80 on the freeway. So we’re flying along and this car behind us is flashing it’s lights and trying to pass. I look over and I kid you not, it’s a school bus….driven by a little old lady. She left us in the dust and wiped the smug look right off my husband’s face.
