Mitt Romney attends Pacquiao-Marquez boxing match
For sheer happy weirdness, nothing quite rivals the surreal encounters that occur at a major boxing match. Saturday night, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, as Manny Pacquiao readied himself in a dressing room for his fourth mega-fight with legendary Mexican foe Juan Manuel Marquez, Mitt Romney appeared. A guest of the Nevada Athletic Commission, Romney had dropped by to wish the Filipino superstar good luck.
A seated Pacquiao was having his hands taped in preparation for putting on his boxing gloves. An aide casually introduced him to Romney, who expanded on the introduction: “Hi, Manny. I ran for president and lost.”
It’s a good thing we didn’t elect Mitt Romney. What kind of a leader goes to a boxing match when the government is facing a financial crisis?

In all seriousness the continued focus on Romney is two-fold: (1) The vile progs honestly can’t believe he hasn’t crawled into a hole and died and (2) Just like during the election, if they stopped, they might have to talk about Obama.

This is what it’s all about. How many women are afraid to throw their hat into the ring after what happened in 2008? Romney is squeaky clean, his family has no skeletons in the closet, and yet he’s been called a murderer. They want to be sure anyone thinking about running against whoever the Obamacrats choose in 2016 (it won’t be Hillary) had better think twice.

Frankly, anyone who wants to run for president to actually effect change by being a well-prepared, competent person who is not beholden to the moneyed interests that run the show better just forget about it. That person will never get elected in this country again. They just let them run as a theatrical foil to the chosen one. It’s all theatre. Ask Hillary, McCain, Romney.

O/T. Before we get drowned out by the Mayan deluge, theres another superstition thats hit the world. Women who are close to giving birth are forcing their docs to ensure that their babies arrive on 12.12.12. Maternity beds have been booked in advance all over the world. Supposed to bring luck. Yeah, in a way, I see their point. Its always easy for a kid to remember his/her date of birth when its 12.12.12. Lol. The last time this happened was last year on 11.11.11. And since it ain’t gonna happen for the next 1000 years (approx), I can understand the mad rush.
My daughter was born 9-8-88. I do remember that it was a big thing that year as well. She missed it by a month, so no inducing was considered and she has turned out rather well. We kept her!! I remember Princess Fergie’s daughter was born on 8-8-88 and it seemed unfair, since she was already pretty lucky having the Queen of England as her grandmother.

We don’t teach real history anymore, but we ignore it at our peril. We also don’t teach geography. So if we were to make a list of all of the places in the world where the victor has spat in the face of his conquest (and I don’t just mean Islam), most people won’t even know where those places are. I had 8th grade students who didn’t know California was a coastal state and thought Istanbul was a town on Cape Cod. Their brothers and sisters were fighting in Iraq, and the kids couldn’t locate it on the right continent. Our kids are being taught that to question the motives of anyone who is not exactly the same as they are in race, class, and creed is wrong without any knowledge of where, when, or how those motives might have evolved. I’m not sure it’s totally through incompetence.

I think the Romney’s have the right idea. We should all attend some sporting events, shows, whatever, and starve our government of attention. This fiscal cliff nonsense, bickering in congress, and media hype doesn’t deserve our attention. Tell them to get back to us when they’ve actually accomplished something, because all the drama is just stoopid and boring.
Obama met with Boehner at the WH yesterday in a super-duper secret meeting. All I can think of is Obama asking B to drag this thing out so he send the family off to Hawaii a week early again. heh.

I agree. But here’s my radical plan for making the gov’t less boring and more responsible. Farm out all federal jobs, legislative and civil service, to the Chinese for a 10 year period at 25% of the current salaries and benefits. They own the place anyway and the net savings to the American population will be significant. If the Ds and Rs can get their acts together within 10 years and agree to represent the people once again, we’ll resume to business as usual. But for the time being, outsource, outsource and outsource.
LOL, that’s not a bad idea. Outsource congress! And if it goes to China, please don’t translate anything. We don’t want to hear a breaking news announcement of every petty squabble. Just do the whole thing in Chinese so we don’t have to hear about it.

While surfing the TV, I heard Hannity ask his guests, (paraphrasing) “how come obama got so deranged over the islam video that caused protests and “bengazi”, and yet is so cool with gangnam rapper who wants to kill innocent americans.” Hannity left it at that, calling it double standard, but it really got me thinking. Both videos are supposedly art, therefore artistic license applies to both. One video gave a modern day interpretation of cultural aspects of 700 A.D., without calling for the killing of anyone, but it was the vilest thing, so vile it had to be denounced at the UN, Pakistan, the US embassies, and on all News channels. The other was calling for the slow killing of innocent americans, but hey, that is so cool that the american president goes to an event with the artist. Which should be worse rom an american perspective – A modern irreligious interpretation of religious/historic events of 700 A.D. that has nothing to do with america, or calling for the killing of the americans? It is beyond double standards. It is illogical.

I love the Festivus pole! I find it interesting that so many commenters wrongly assume that atheists are “jealous” of “their” holiday. Winter solstice celebrations have been around longer than Christianity and belong to all humankind. I think it’s wonderful that there are so many ways to celebrate and don’t understand why Christians seem to think they own this ancient celebration (when all they did was absorb an existing tradition into their religious calendar). Sorry, Christians, but your holiday is my holiday too. You’re going to have to share.

I don’t see the festivus pole as mockery. Are all the pasta ornaments my grandkids make “mocking” someone’s religion? I think the recycled beer cans are bright and festive. And, besides, beer cans are a particularly appropriate ornament to accompany Saturnalia.
Good grief, I collect religious icons and recycled cans and bottle caps are often used in religious folk art. I don’t see anything ignorant, trashy, rude, or uncivil about people expressing themselves with recycled art, Christian or otherwise.
