Dem lawmaker tweets college co-ed, then deletes messages
Rep. Steve Cohen repeatedly tweeted, and then deleted, messages to a woman on Twitter who his office is calling “the daughter of a longtime friend” and who has the same name as a Texas State University blonde bombshell featured in a college co-ed calendar.
In a Tuesday night message ahead of President Obama’s State of the Union address, a Twitter user named Victoria Brink tweeted to the Tennessee Democrat, “just saw you on tv!”
According to a tweet captured by the nonpartisan Sunlight Foundation’s Politiwoops site, Cohen replied to Brink, “pleased u r watching. Ilu” The tweet was deleted after three minutes.
Both Wikipedia and UrbanDictionary.com define “ilu” as Internet slang for either “I love you” or “I like you.”
In another message sent Wednesday morning, Cohen wrote again to Brink on Twitter: “nice to know you were watchin SOTU (state of the union.) Happy Valentines beautiful girl. Ilu.” That message was deleted within 15 minutes of being posted.
A biography of Victoria Brink on CollegeDozen.com says the 24-year-old, who is seen posing in a turquoise and pink bikini, plans on “moving back to Beverly Hills or Houston to pursue a career in the fashion industry and do modeling on the side,” following her graduation.
I’m sure their relationship is completely platonic and there is no hanky-panky going on. After all, he’s a Democratic Congressman and they don’t do stuff like that.

Doesn’t his staff think it might be wise to tell him that Twitter is…uh…public? How stupid are these guys?! It’s not like it’s the first time it’s happened and torpedoed someone’s career. How is Anthony Weiner doing now?
His problem is he was thinking with his staff.
If he were smart, he’d have a real job.
The women in Congress never make this sort of gaff. Not even the Democrats.

The best cough syrup in the world is ginger root, lemon, and honey. Just grate some ginger root, put it in boiling water, let it steep, add honey and lemon. It’s really good for coughs. Doesn’t get you high, but I haven’t tried snorting it yet.

It’s kinda funny that when the story first broke he said she was a friend. Now she’s his daughter?

To elaborate a bit: I tend to think that the personal lives of public officials are none of my damned business, as long as they don’t involve criminality, corruption, or abuse. Perhaps if we paid as much attention to their legislative records as their twitter accounts, we might all be better off. I don’t care that he has a 24 year-old illegitimate daughter. I wouldn’t care if she had indeed been his mistress. It’s not important. As long as it’s not influencing legislation I really don’t think it’s news.
