President Obama enjoys guys’ weekend, golfs with Tiger Woods

President Obama on Sunday displayed the freedom that comes with not having another election ahead of him, golfing with Tiger Woods in an enclave of privilege here along Florida’s blustery Atlantic coast.

Since his reelection in November, Obama has been talking about the perils facing America’s middle class, highlighted in his State of the Union address last week. On Friday he visited a public high school in his hometown of Chicago, where he spoke in personal terms about the need to reduce gun violence and create jobs in the country’s troubled urban areas.

The contrast to where he arrived only hours later – and where he will remain through Monday’s federal holiday – could not be more stark. He disappeared late Friday evening behind the gates of the Floridian, a lush golf and residential compound off limits to the public. Neither the public outside those gates, nor the media, has seen him since.

And by adding Woods, the greatest player of his generation, whose fame might only be matched by the notoriety attached to his precipitous adultery-fueled fall from grace three years ago, Obama made clear that he’ll live with criticism over the gap between the harsh realities he is seeking to address in public life and the glamour of his private follies.

The Floridian is owned by Houston businessman and Obama donor Jim Crane, a near-scratch golfer who also owns the Houston Astros baseball team. Crane held a fundraiser for Obama last March in an upscale shopping and dining complex attached to Minute Maid Park, the Astros home field.

That’s a pretty amazing article for the Washington Post to print about Obama. I wonder what’s up?

The traveling White House press corps has been given no access to Obama on this outing, a guys’ weekend of golf and a cool winter sun. First lady Michelle Obama and the couple’s daughters, Sasha and Malia, took their annual ski vacation in Aspen, Colo., during the long Presidents’ Day weekend.

For much of this outing, the small contingent of the White House press corps accompanying Obama has lobbied with little success for more information about where precisely on the Floridian grounds the president is staying, who he is staying with, and how much contact he has with other people on the grounds.

A photo of Obama on the course with someone as famous as Woods is commonly a moment the “traveling pool” of about a dozen journalists is allowed to witness. White House officials declined to allow that Sunday.

For the long weekend, the pool has been permitted just inside the Floridian gates, where reporters have used as their “filing center” a mirror-ceilinged party bus, the kind used for shouldn’t-be-driving evenings of bacchanalia like bachelor parties.

Because the president’s motorcade has not left the compound, White House officials have explained, there is no reason for the pool to track the president’s activities or to know who he is spending time with on a personal vacation.

That is an argument often respected by the White House press corps, except this time Obama is not staying in a private home but on the grounds of a complex accessible by those who belong to the club and others. The press corps is staying at a Holiday Inn Express roughly eight miles away.

Okay, now it makes sense.

Dogs always whine when they get left behind. Sometimes they get mad and chew up your slippers or gnaw on the furniture to get even. But when you come home they are excited to see you and jump right in your lap.

They are literally showing Obama who’s the boss.

    The Hill:

The White House press corps on Sunday expressed frustration with the lack of access given to President Obama this weekend, during his trip to Florida.

White House Correspondents Association President Ed Henry released a statement Sunday evening, saying that the press corps had not been given adequate access to the president and that the group would press for “transparency” in the future, according to a pool report.

“Speaking on behalf of the White House Correspondents Association, I can say a broad cross section of our members from print, radio, online and TV have today expressed extreme frustration to me about having absolutely no access to the President of the United States this entire weekend,” said Henry. “There is a very simple but important principle we will continue to fight for today and in the days ahead: transparency.”

  2. The dumbasses on the news are NOW! JUST NOW! All over the skyrocketing gas prices. All expressing consternation over it. Can’t find a single “expert” to ‘splain it.
It’s simple really, and every commenter here could give the answer.

The WHPC are special little snowflakes. I remember all the whining when they had to stay in crappy Crawford Tx motels for the Bush vacays. No wonder Cindy Sheen got all that publicity …. payback 😀

  4. DeniseVB says:

The press corps just got scooped by….wait for it….Golf Digest !

Includes a video clip from MSNBC. Of course 😉

NBC and Golf channel are both owned by Comcast.

      • DeniseVB says:

….and the puzzle pieces come together 😉 It’s too bad somebody didn’t think of dragging the press corpse in for a kumbya photo op for 5 minutes of putting green photo ops. We’d be wiping the slobber off our computer screens right now.

But then, some dogs are people’s best friends, others are nasty mongrels….

Simple, there’s only so much room on the golf course when you have that many hookers involved.

  7. myiq—I used one of your graphics on my blog. does that make you my muse?

I’m amazed, no video of who let the dogs out. 🙂

Makes me think of Katie Couric’s award for being a “gotcha’ bitch” reporter. The 47% Romney comment wasn’t journalism, it was an illegally taped and leaked private conversation taken way out of context. But it served The Messiah well, thou shall be rewarded. Ugh.

I like this guy. he does make lemons into lemonaide.

think this is a giant FU to the media and the left?

    • DeniseVB says:

I saw that SNL made a big, unfunny, deal out it too. Haven’t watched that video, but I did watch SNL’s Best/Worst of the 90’s last night. The Clinton years wrote themselves, and it’s sad they don’t let the Obama years do the same.

      • yttik says:

Some fool tried to tell me that Rubio drank from his water bottle 500 times during his speech. They had seen the instant replay on TV so many times, they assumed the clip that was running over and over again was happening in real time.

There really is no hope for some people.

  12. HELENK says:

here go gas prices again and it is not even summer yet

    • yttik says:

It’s because of the hurricane….oh wait, I mean the refinery fire. No wait, that was last year. Well, there’s been some snow back East and some rain in the North and Ca got down to 50 a couple of times, so that must be what’s driving up costs!

Our idiot governor wants a new gas tax. We get the double whammy, high state gas taxes, increasing gas costs, and a bunch of fools at the state capital that think they can get some more blood out of a turnip.

Instapundit quipped “Why offer access to the cow, when you can get the milk for free?” I have no sympathy for the media, who has spent 6 years being a whore on perpetual booty call, now whining “he never calls meeee!”

  15. DandyTiger says:

Is this like getting a Nobel?

  16. wmcb says:

Yet another reason why legislators who don’t know jack squat about guns or ammo need to back off and stop hyperventilating in order to make themselves look “concerned”

WI Democrats are trying to ban hollow point bullets, because ZOMG SCARY MILITARY DEATH BULLETS!!! Problem is, for either hunting or home defense, they are less likely to pass through and harm a bystander than other ammo. Which is precisely why many states have laws that ONLY hollow points can be used for certain hunting. Hollow points are SAFER.

Hey WI Dems, your complete and utter hysteria-fueled paranoid ignorance is showing.

Speaking of analogies and whining dogs, I was thinking , about the Carnival Triumph cruise that turned into a floating disaster, and how much it reminded me of the havoc that has been wrought by the Obama administration upon our economy in this country , Probably not the greatest analogy , but it was rattling around in my head .

There was an explosion and loss of power , and the ship is at the mercy of the winds and currents . The only thing saving us are tugboats , ( the republicans and independents?) but the ship stinks because it is full of of feces and urine and the people are very very unhappy .
Now, we are not yet in the dire circumstances as Europe ,( the Concordia ) where that ship has hit a rock and is lying on its side and will take many years and a massive effort to recover ,

But our ship is still full of feces, stinks to high heaven , and will require a gargantuan clean up and repairs before it can set sail again under its own power .
And the whining dogs will put more effort into covering the adversity from the ship disaster , than they will into investigating anything the Obama administration has done regarding the economy .
If they covered the cruise ship debacle the way they cover Obama ; they would blame the tugboats for the disaster , and pundits would declare that nothing “stinks” and the feces will serve as fertile ground for improvement of the ship in the future , and the passengers should just sit back and enjoy their cruise ..

Whining dogs , they shouldn’t worry, their master will call them and feed them when he needs to use them again.

WRM has a really good piece up on the GWOT.

We’ve got a problem here that neither liberal nor conservative boilerplate policy prescriptions can solve. Nor does a judicious mix—a few drones here, a few aid dollars there—look particularly hopeful. Some of this is going to have to be handled by selective “ignorage.” When you really can’t solve a problem you sometimes just have to learn to live with it, and a good part of what these pathetic losers are up to is of no concern to the wider world.

When you get right down to it, Americans would strongly prefer that people everywhere lived in religiously tolerant democracies and that nobody anywhere ever mistreated a woman, stoned an adulteress, or hanged a homosexual. But it is equally true that the country isn’t prepared to launch into an eternal series of wars to save thieves from having their hands cut off in small African towns.

The art of policy is going to lie in figuring out what disagreeable activity we can safely ignore, and when these groups constitute a threat to us and our key allies

  25. HELENK says:

    have you seen this one??

  26. HELENK says:

Damn it backtrack was only kidding when he proposed sequestration. We did not think you would take in seriously. Well we won’t do our job and propose a budget until you give us more taxes so there will not be sequestration. It is your fault, who knew you could not take a joke

    • wmcb says:

Ahem. That is the “GOP Sequestration” according to some headlines and articles I’ve seen.

      • DeniseVB says:

Yeah, GOP made him do it, riiiiiight 🙂 Here in Navy town we have shipbuilders, repairers, oh looking at the loss of about 10k jobs, and ships that don’t run because of sequestration. Not for a moment do I believe this is the GOP’s fault.
