hbo-bringing-back-game-of-thrones-for-a-third-chapter

I have been watching Game of Thrones Season Two on DVD. I watched Season One a couple months ago. GOT is the only show I’ve ever seen that I had to use a written synopsis of each episode just to keep track of what’s going on. I never read any of the books but it looks like I’m gonna have to start.

Andrew Klaven:

Game of Thrones — It’s very hard for me to get into the fantasy genre, but I just love this. I burned through the first two seasons and am way ready for the third to begin on HBO March 31st. A sprawling fantasy about the struggle to win the Iron Throne that rules the seven kingdoms. It’s gotten teased a lot for all the sex (see the pitch-perfect SNL skit above), so be warned. Whenever there’s an exposition scene, they try to have two naked girls making out in the background to liven things up. It’s so over-the-top, I actually found myself thinking, “Put your shirt on, sister, so I can hear the exposition.” But still, great characters, great stories — and a brilliant use of the supernatural; that’s the best thing about it. Supernatural events haunt the edges of the story and then slowly, slowly move toward the center. Somehow that makes it all completely believable. Kudos to David Benioff and D.B. Weiss who brought the massive, unfinished series of novels A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin to life. Great score by Ramin Djawadi. A wonderful cast, dominated by Peter Dinklage in a performance for the ages. But my favorite, of course, is Conan the Barbarian star Jason Momoa as the savage Khal Drogo. If I call my wife “moon of my life,” one more time, she may toss me out

Season Three starts next week, but I don’t get HBO so I won’t get to see it until it’s released on DVD.

    GOT is addictive.

It’s great. And they’re not afraid to kill off main characters. The bastards.

I used to be a big fan of the books, but I got tired of the ever-increasing bloat after book 4 I think. GRRM has a writers block and even though he’s writing, things are not moving along.

  2. I tried reading the books during my recovery from the back surgery. Couldn’t keep everyone straight. Maybe time to try again without all the meds lol.

Speaking of Thrones, Keith Koffler compares Obama to that “abusive boyfriend” 😀

I don’t have HBO either, so I think I would rather start with the books . I always end up comparing everything to Tolkien , and I understand George R.R. Martins works stand up to the comparison .

  5. DandyTiger says:

HBO Go, the application that lets you watch HBO, is going to open up to subscription. So you don’t have cable/satellite to get HBO. You might also check with the usual movie/tv download stores, but I’m not sure HBO does that with it’s own shows.

All of us are “wetbacks” unless our ancestors came over a land bridge in Alaska.

      • DeniseVB says:

No wonder they go by Bloods and Crips now, way cooler 😀 We really do need to purge Congress of anyone born before 1945, which I think is Sarah’s new plan !

        • 49erDweet (D) says:

Agree with the purge, but would rather base it on voting record than DOB. Not arguing some of us old geezers aren’t brain dead, but if ancient-of-days Thomas Sowell were an incumbent, as an example, following your guideline alone could be not that smart. I’d prioritize on Voting Record, Length of Incumbency and then DOB. But let’s purge, baby, purge!

        • DeniseVB says:

I pulled ’45 out my hat because i’m in first year class of Boomer ’46. I meant to be snarky more than ageist 😀

    • yttik says:

I hate to defend a congresscritter, but everyone latched onto his use of the word “wetbacks” and left out the whole part about how much respect and compassion he had for his father’s workers. It’s like we don’t even care about content or intentions anymore, we just want to play gotcha games.

What all these fools do not realise is that to people like bomber billy ayres and bernedine dorn is that they are collateral damage. they are glorifying killers that think they are fools whose lives have no value. The harm this bunch still do to this country is unspeakable.
Odd thing is most of them came from families that were not working class and they had never had a hungry day in their lives and when things got bad for them they ran right back to daddy to save their useless asses

      • swanspirit says:

JEEBUS motherfreaking Cripes on a cracker !!!
You have GOT to be kidding me , these mfers are criminals who just about destroyed the anti- war civil rights and women’s rights movement because they were VIOLENT BOMBERS AND MURDERERS . I wonder if they are going to conveniently leave out the fact that they blew a number of themselves up building a bomb to murder servicemen at a dance????
Ayers was an arrogant asshole with female groupies , and he still is . I remember him , and his ahole weather underground . They were DESPISED by the activists of the time , and they should be still . I wonder if Redford would condone them bombing his movie?

        • myiq2xu says:

His materialist daddy’s money and connections came in handy when he got caught.

        • swanspirit says:

They sure did come in handy , and he didn’t even blink after his first GF blew herself up before he switched to the next one . He is a pig .

On Monday, March 2, 1970, in Keene, New Hampshire, a Weatherman purchased two 50-pound cases of dynamite from the New England Explosives Corporation. Sometime that week, the dynamite was moved from Keene to Greenwich Village, New York, where it was taken to the house at 18 West Eleventh Street.[39] Oughton left Detroit and joined the group at the house. On Friday of the same week, Oughton and Robbins were in the basement assembling a nail bomb when it detonated.[3

I am not sure when the democratic party became so anti American and against everything that made this country great

    • swanspirit says:

When Obama became POTUS , the anti American stuff really kicked in , esp the anti constitution wave. And you know what is so heartbreaking , most of these idiots are spouting off ;and they really REALLY do not know what they are talking about . They lack the history , the basic information , and any experience that might defend their POV . Their arguments are all emotion , condescension , and self righteousness.

How Democrats convinced Ashley Judd not to run

Although former President Bill Clinton was publicly neutral, his decision to meet with and counsel a Judd rival, 34-year-old Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, in Owensboro earlier this month had an impact. The assumption, at first disputed by Clinton allies, was that he was backing Grimes. News of the meeting, first reported by HuffPost, together with the lack of support for Judd from current and past Kentucky leaders — including incumbent Gov. Steve Beshear — showed that Judd would have had to attempt a hostile takeover of the party…

Although Judd had the backing of Louisville-based supporters of Barack Obama, led by former Obama finance chief Matthew Barzun, the president’s advisers in Washington were openly hostile to the idea of her candidacy. That circle, including former Obama top adviser David Plouffe, worried not only that Judd was too liberal and inexperienced for Kentucky, but that Republicans would use her candidacy and Hollywood background to attack Democratic Senate candidates running in other red stat . . .

In other words , too many naked pictures on the internet .

    • Constance says:

I think the Dems made the reasonable choice here and it surprises me. When they put Congress women in the 2012 Dem convention spotlight during the afternoon when no one could watch and put the vapid Hollywood starlets on during prime time it said who they considered more valuable.
