This has been a long week. It feels like it should be Friday by now. I’m wore out.

This is an open thread.

A viewer’s guide to Clinton Fever

Will she run or won’t she?

The obsessive speculation about Hillary Clinton’s plans for 2016 promises to be the longest and most intense parlor game in the history of American politics. It is a consuming fixation already, not just among the operatives and reporters who always inhale this stuff but to an extraordinary degree among average Americans.

The official Clinton line — she hasn’t decided and won’t for perhaps two years to come — has done nothing to quiet the national argument. She’s too tired, and, in her mid-60s, just wants to enjoy life, says one line. Nonsense, says the other: Why would anyone, especially someone as ambitious as she is, decline a historic presidential nomination that many believe is hers for the asking.

Of all the possible 2016 candidates, Clinton can most afford to take her time deciding. But there are a number of different choices — about her financial future, about her public profile, about whom she surrounds herself with — that will make clear whether Clinton is organizing her life in anticipation of a second presidential run or has decided to liberate herself from ambition and just do what she wants.

It’s gonna be a long four years.

  2. Lulu says:

I am going to express an unpopular opinion. I still respect and like Hillary Clinton personally. I really have no interest in her as a potential candidate for anything. I would read her books and listen to her speak about pretty much anything. But, BUT, anyone who has served in this administration, supported it, done the dirty work, and toed the line for this abomination from Hades is not someone I would support with my money, time or vote at this time. All of the Hillary for 2016 baloney is just more garbage bait and switch from the media which I no longer follow. I hope she has a wonderful, rewarding and productive retirement as she has more than earned it.

OT: Just read that CNN’s Ali Velshi is out—last day is Friday. Soledad, Roland, and Ali—-all gone.

    • DeniseVB says:

When you’re pulling lower numbers than MSNBC ya gotta figure out why. Good move CNN !

    • Constance says:

Ali Velshi is really a good reporter. What could they possibly be thinking! Of course they hired the idiot who ruined NBC to fix CNN so what do you expect.

      • Mary says:

Ali Velshi may be a “good reporter,” per the party line from CNN.

But he major-league sucks as an economist, and usually doesn’t understand (or selectively chooses) economics. He’s Krugman-lite.

        Due respect. No offense.

        • Constance says:

At least he talks about an interesting topic, business and money. Most of the crap on CNN is just unwatchable. I had high hopes for Erin Burnett but happened to catch her segment on “Victoria’s Secret controversy” which was obviously just a product placement. I expect more and more of that manufactured commercial controversy once they start their “rehab”

I saw a good tweet the other day “how are you going to make criminals go through mandatory background checks?”

So much common sense missing in the debate and none of the new control laws proposed would not have saved the Sandy Hook kids 😦

      • votermom says:

It really pisses me off – the economy is so bad and all they, Dems & Rinos, want to focus on is more ways to control the population.

      • catarina says:

…sheriffs from 17 counties held a rally at a nearby park to lambast the state measures and call out the White House for using Colorado as a “guinea pig” for its national gun-control agenda.

“If the issue that we’re focusing on is community safety and reducing violence, it could have been done without some of these very serious impositions on our citizens,” said Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith. “The fact they ignored that and the president showed up for a victory lap, I think, is a slap in the face to Coloradans.”

        • catarina says:

Obama just had to go to Colorado and rub their noses in it.
Conveniently, it was on the way to several big dollar fundraisers in CA, so that means it was ‘official’ travel and the taxpayers pick up the tab for his
          campaigning?
          Disgusting POS..

      • yttik says:

Some fool was on TV bragging about a restriction on the number of bullets you could have in a clip. He was like, “and now when you run out of bullets, that’s it, you’re done.” Everybody was praising him for his brilliance. It was kind of astounding, nobody said anything about someone’s ability to reload! If people are going to legislate guns, they should at least have some basic knowledge about them. All this crap is just crazy, as if a mass shooting will somehow be less dangerous because we took three bullets away.

And yeah, few criminals are going to bother with a background check or getting the specs on which bullets are legal and which are not.

    • piper says:

Am stealing this ‘undocumented weapon’ tweet.

  7. yttik says:

About that Rutgers coach that was fired, good he’s gone, but the media coverage has been over the top! “This is the worst thing we have ever seen” and “if there are any children in the room you might want them to leave before we show this tape.” This after showing us injuries with bones sticking out, hit and run pedestrian accidents, North Korea threats, etc, etc. But the “worse thing we have ever seen” is some guy shoving grown men around and throwing a ball at them? Seriously?

  8. DeniseVB says:

Mark Sanford’s running against Stephen Colbert’s sister for that SC House seat ….

    http://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-elizabeth-colbert-busch-stephen-mark-sanford-south-carolina-1st-district-election-2013-4

For those who want to know more about her than being the sister of a celebrity 🙂

  9. Constance says:

I don’t think Hillary will run and if she does the Obot machine won’t let her win again. The MSNBC Dems are just gaga over her right now to show that they aren’t sexist pigs. Soon enough they will pick Obama 2 and push him to the front. and Obama 2 will be a man, they have zero interest in advancing real women’s issues although I am sure they keep their abortion dog whistles close by.

I donated a lot to Hillary in 2008, that “What difference does it make” comment took her down in my eyes.

    • piper says:

I know that I sound like a broken record but I will repeat that Meanchelle and Val Jar are sharpening their knives and will be the first ones throwing dirt on and at Hillary.

    • lyn5 says:

I feel the same way, and Bill should not have helped Bronco get re-elected.

    • gxm17 says:

Spot on, Constance. The current Dem support for Hillary is pure pretense so that they can keep playing the women foolish enough to fall for it. I also agree that she won’t run, but if she does I would vote for her though I probably wouldn’t send her any money. My money goes to the Green Party now in the hopes that some point in the near future we can break free of the uni-party stranglehold.

  10. HELENK says:

when Hillary put party before country and did not take it to the convention floor, she told 18 million citizens your vote does not count.

when she went to work for backtrack it was her decision and she knew his history of throwing people under the bus and was willing to be thrown and give him cover.

When the words ” what difference does it make” came out of her mouth she disrespected the deaths of four good American citizens..

I am also with Lulu and could not vote for her. Yes that makes me sad as in 2008 I really wanted her to be president and made the phone calls and gave the money but never again

this race in Virginia is a forerunner of Clinton running. so far it looks like the democrats at their worst

    • DeniseVB says:

McAuliffe couldn’t even win the Dem primary in 2010 and since then built a factory (or something with lots of jobs) in Mississippi, not Virginia. How serious is this guy? Not a good sign if they’re using this election as a bellweather for Hillary.

OMG OMG OMG JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE IS PERFORMING AT THE WHITE HOUSE!!! 11! OMG OMG

    No, really:

The White House announced this week that the 32-year-old artist is slated to perform there on April 9 as part of an evening of celebration for Memphis Soul music.

Timberlake will join other artists like The Alabama Shakes; William Bell; Steve Cropper; Ben Harper; Queen Latifah; Cyndi Lauper; Joshua Ledet; Sam Moore; Charlie Musselwhite; Mavis Staples; and the artist who’s given President Obama some of his best karaoke material, Al Green. The evening is part of the President and First Lady’s “In Performance at the White House” series, and it’ll air on PBS April 16 at 8 p.m. ET.

Because when you think Memphis Soul music, you think Justin Timberlake.

He is what hope looks like. Yes you can get out of grinding poverty and do not have to settle for dead end jobs. You can use your brain and talent and succeed no matter where you start.

    • DandyTiger says:

Carson nailed it when he said he’s “an existential threat” to the Dem party. His very existence as a non victim threatens their very ideology. He must be destroyed.

    • Lulu says:

Shucks. I thought the I-word was “icky”. Incompetent will do nicely though.

    • westcoaster says:

I associate him with the “I” word- it’s the only word he uses with any consistency (brought to you by the letter “i”, the number “0” an the words “corporate hack”)

  17. DandyTiger says:

If Hillary is thinking of running, she will keep a very low profile about it until after the 2014 election for a very important reason.

If Obama loses that election, that is, Repubs hold the house by healthy numbers, or especially if Obama really loses that election, that is, Repubs gain in the house and gain in the senate, then Obama is very, very weak. That’s the position Hillary would want. If Obama is very weak, he will be even more of a lame duck, and most importantly is OFA organization and his Chicago thugs like ValJA will have been weakened and shown as failures. Then and only then will she become the more dominant force in the DNC/Dem party.

If on the other hand Obama wins 2014, where by Dems gain in the senate and Repubs lose the house or are at least very weak in the house with a slim majority, then Obama/OFA/ValJay will be even more powerful and will be in complete charge of what the DNC does. Hillary would have no chance then.

So it all depends on 2014. I suspect the gun control efforts will insure a Repub victory in 2014. See for example 1994. But it’s early and more things can happen. The Repub party is still a walking disaster. See for example the SC race with Stanford vs. Cobert’s sister.

  23. Somebody says:

Well I’m late to the party today……long, craptastic day I’ve had.

First of all I’m on team Lulu as far as 2016. That is at least for right now, should Hillary be running against say Rick Santorum or something, then I guess I’d vote for her, never say never in other words.

Since this is an open thread and it already has over 100 comments, I’ll do everyone a favor and play the role of thread killer.

I have determined from my craptastic day that there would be far less divorces if men would just listen to what women say……because 9 times out of 10 we’re right.

My day started out getting needlessly stuck due to a train. We saw the train across the highway, I cautioned my husband to turn, yet he ignored me……as men do. He had two more opportunities to turn before we reached the crossing with the train, but did he….NO. Did I insist he turn around…..YES. We sat there for 27 minutes, 27 flipping minutes. The last 7, the long ass train slowly creeped forward, then it stopped again and started going backwards……ARGH!

My husband finally decided to turn around having no choice at that point but to drive my van up over the concrete median. Then did he take the route I suggested???? The brand new, just opened, four lane road???? Hell no, he took the two lane road and guess what? Bridge under construction, just as I had cautioned…..one lane road, with a flagman. We got to sit there for another 15 minutes.

Finally got to where we were going; arriving for our daughter’s doctor appointment 35 minutes late.

The most infuriating thing about all of it was, the more I bitched the harder my husband laughed……the man was enjoying every minute of annoying the crap out of me. I thought I was happy about him retiring, now I’m rethinking it.

    That is all……I’m done venting

    • DandyTiger says:

I love a good thread killing rant. 🙂

    • HELENK says:

it is genetically impossible for men to take driving directions.

    • votermom says:

      LOL at your story. (((hugs)))

      • Somebody says:

My daughter left me speechless and embarrassed at her appointment to boot. I shouldn’t have been surprised something pops out of her mouth everytime we go to oncology for follow ups. She has a contentious relationship with the follow up NP.

As usual daughter was being harassed by the NP about taking supplements; her standard reply is she took all kinds of nasty pills and drugs for years and doesn’t plan to take anymore ever. The NP then says the chemo drugs weren’t THAT nasty to which daughter replies “Not that nasty? Let me tell you, Chemo drugs taste like demon spawn from the devil’s butthole”

OMG I wanted to melt onto the floor……the NP looked at her with shocked indignation, then quickly gave me one of those smug what kind of mother are you looks.

I asked my daughter in the elevator where in the world she came up with such a description……she just laughed and said the first thing that popped into her head was demon spawn and she quickly added the other part so it would “make sense”.

        Like I said craptastic day

        • myiq2xu says:

I would have given her a high-five. My Darling Daughter was raised to not take shit off anybody. Even her older brothers learned not to cross her. When she reached high school we put her in “independent studies” because she kept getting in arguments with her teachers.

She is now 27 and manages her own restaurant/bar. She doesn’t own it, it’s one of those corporate chain restaurants like Applebees. She started as a bartender when she was 22 and she is already the general manager.

        • swanspirit says:

The NP should NEVER have told her the drugs ” weren’t that nasty ” How does she know , she never had to take them , and saying that invalidates the child’s experience .
Kids know if you have empathy . It would have been more helpful if the NP had said ” omg that bad !! “”or just laughed .
Your daughter was great!! I wish she did not have to take another pill ever . I usually tell kids if they liked taking pills (getting shots ; seeing the nurse or doctor , I would worry about them !

        • HELENK says:

cool kid. she has to be fantastic to be around. You did good somebody, you taught her to standup for herself and not be a wimp or a doormat that gets walked on

        • Somebody says:

Well my daughter has no problem standing up for herself. She’s one tough cookie and has one heck of a fighting spirit. She endured a lot of rare and serious side effects, but never quit fighting.

Still…..demon spawn from the devil’s butthole….OMG she couldn’t just say they taste nasty, disgusting, horrific??? The devil’s butthole?

You guys are right though the NP shouldn’t have said that because she doesn’t know, she hasn’t been through chemo. The NP also insisted my daughter was making up pain in her ankles, when we finally got testing (which I had to get elsewhere) turns out she wasn’t. It’s real, another side effect now they’re all worried her ankles might collapse due to bone damage. So like I said their relationship is very contentious; my daughter is still angry about being told she was making up pain to avoid exercise, VERY angry.

Luckily we only have 2 more follow up appointments and then we’re released!! One in six months and one a year from then.

Since you all think my daughter is cool, you’re welcome to take her to both or either or those appointments, LOL! Obviously she won’t embarrass any of you at all. I’ll be SO glad when we’re done. I don’t ever want to see that place again.

        • swanspirit says:

Kids don’t lie about pain , they just don’t ,because the minute it goes away, they forget about it .
And you can tell your daughter this R.N. would put what she said on her wall of all time great things kids said about taking medicine !!! I love it !! LOL That medication must be nasty , can she take it with applesauce or jello or something?

    • myiq2xu says:
