Single Mother of the Untied States?

Michelle Obama mistakenly calls herself a “busy single mother”

First lady Michelle Obama mistakenly called herself a “busy single mother” in an interview on Thursday with Burlington, Vt. CBS affiliate WCAX, before quickly catching herself and identifying instead as “busy working mom.”

Discussing the struggle many parents face in balancing work and home life, the first lady reached for an empathetic tone, beginning, “Believe me, as a busy single mother…or, I shouldn’t say ‘single’ – as a busy mother…”

She seemed to catch her flub almost immediately. “You know, when you’ve got the husband who’s president, it can feel a little single, but he’s there,” she clarified of her husband, President Barack Obama.

“And as a busy working mom, and before coming to the White House, I was in that position as well – working, driving kids to practice, not having enough time to shop or cook, not having the energy,” she added.

I’ve gotta go with Big MO on this one. She might be legally married and reside in the same place as her husband, but she’s been a virtual single mom for at least 8 years now. I’m guessing that a few years after he leaves office they will make the split official.

Some people believe she’s Barack’s beard. Maybe after they drag him kicking and screaming out of the White House he’ll “evolve” some more and come out of the closet.

I don’t know if he is or isn’t gay. I don’t really care one way or the other, but if he is it’s really unfair to his wife and children. Even if he and Michelle have an agreement, the children certainly have no such agreement.

Gay or straight, if you choose to father a child (and having sex with a fertile female is a choice) then you owe that child a big chunk of your time, attention and support at least until they are an adult.

The presidency is not compatible with good parenting. I’m sorry but it’s not good for kids to grow up like that.

When he was a senator he had an apartment in D.C. and did not commute often , so she was home in Chicago without him then, too .

I was going to say that swanspirit, they lived apart when he was a senator. I believe they also lived apart prior to that when he was a state rep and then state senator, at least when the legislature was in session.

Then he ran for POTUS for a couple of years, lots of time apart. Then he ran again, same thing, honestly he still hasn’t stopped campaigning. Even when they’re at the WH, he seems to keep himself pretty busy doing whatever strikes his fancy.

I think it was an honest slip of the tongue. She legitimately has been a single mom for most of the children’s life, no matter their continued marital status.

It just occurred to me that an interesting History Channel series would cover the post-presidential lives of First Kids. Some of them stay in the public eye, but most of them seem to vanish from sight.

        • Somebody says:

Can you blame them? I couldn’t imagine growing up in the WH. I don’t imagine it’s too bad for the ones that are grown when their dad became POTUS, but the younger ones, OY!

I would think they’d want to fade away and have a life. A real life where everything isn’t a photo op or they don’t have to worry being a news story.

Well, except for the fact that her mother lived with them—helping with the errands, homework, laundry, etc.

And that she had a cook, a maid, and a nanny while in Chicago.

You don’t really think Michelle Obama had to do the weekly grocery shopping, or fold some towels, or load the dishwasher, do you?

        • myiq2xu says:

It takes a village to raise a child. Michelle Obama was the one who was home every night with those girls. She was a working mom and the primary wage-earner.

OTOH she was almost as ambitious as Barack and she loves the dolce vita even more than he does.

        • Mary says:

Fair enough. But she had much more help and support than she’s willing to admit while she’s whining. And her “fake” job (don’t jump me—you know what I mean) was thanks to the patronage of the very same husband who was never home.

And yes…..she wanted him to run, even though her statements suggest trepidation…..and she does, indeed, love the dolce vita.

My point was that she is NOT, and never has been, a “single mom” like the average American woman is. So spare me the whiny-ass “po widdle me” crap, Michelle.

she may have been at home every night but remember she had a live-in child minder, her mother.

Well, when a liberal makes a “flub” speaking, it’s “an honest slip of the tongue”, or they were tired, or it was a teleprompter glitch, or some other excuse but if it had been a conservative making a “slip”, it would be resoundingly because they are “stupid”.

I do not know if he is gay or straight and honestly do not care. What I can see is his deep contempt for women. His mother, his grandmother and any strong woman. Old saying watch how a man treats his mother and you will know how he will treat you.
I think it was an arranged marriage for political purposes. She gets a wealthy life and he gets to look like a family man.
