BREAKING NEWS: Explosions at the Boston Marathon

boston

Yahoo:

There are multiple reports on Twitter of an explosion at the Boston Marathon.

We spoke to a Boston Police Department Spokesperson who said there was “some sort of incident at 671 Boylston Street”, which is the finish line for the race. They could not give out further information at the time of the call.

Live video from CBS shows ambulances at the scene. Fox News reports that there were two explosions, while the Boston Herlad reports that the explosion seemed to be centered in a ‘trash can’.

Fox News reports that the headquarters of the Boston Marathon are now on lockdown.

Reporters on the scene are reporting dozens of injuries and lost limbs. TV crews are showing images lots of blood on the ground.

Go to FOX or CNN for live coverage.

The cause of the explosion(s) is unknown but there are people dead and injured at the scene.

  2. SHV says:

The video looks bad. Last night my wife had tears in her eyes that she wasn’t running in Boston this year. We would likely been hanging around in that area after she finished.

  3. myiq2xu says:

CNN has video of the first explosion. There were at least two.

  4. yttik says:

    WTH??

  5. leslie says:

This is utterly frightening. My daughter had planned to run this year, but couldn’t. I’m still shaking. I can’t reach her, but I know she’s safe.

    • leslie says:

Daughter just called and she is fine, One of her good friends went down to watch it. My daughter is trying to reach her.

        • leslie says:

thanks, vm. My daughter is beside herself. She can’t reach her friends. I had heard the police were telling people not to use cell phones around there lest they set off any IEDs. I shared that with her and she felt a tiny bit better. She’s feeling helpless right now. I’m relieved she wasn’t running. I’m really angry at whoever did this.

        • Somebody says:

Leslie I hope your daughter’s friend is OK.

        • leslie says:

Thanks for your thoughts. Everyone she (and I) know there are okay. My heart goes out to those who aren’t okay.

  6. DeniseVB says:

Thanks myiq, this is why I love your blog.

John Smart beat you by a minute and it was “click here” to read post, then “click here” to read about it. I HATE that kind of blogging, it’s just phishing for hits and pingbacks, ugh. And John if you read this, I’m going to unsub your blog if you keep doing that! So annoying.

  7. elliesmom says:

My son and daughter-in-law are there, but have called in to say they are both OK. They say it is a major nightmare. They have been evacuated to another part of the city. At least two explosions.

    • myiq2xu says:

I have a nephew that lives in Boston with his wife and daughter. I haven’t heard from my sister whether he is okay or not.

      • elliesmom says:

The explosions are right near the finish line. Maybe coming from the Boston Public Library. The elite runners finished hours ago so the runners and spectators affected by the bombing are mostly people who are decidedly amateur runners – a lot of them running for charity. My son and his wife are involved with the Dana Farber group. Usually one of them runs, but this year my son was one of the coaches. His runners had all crossed the finish line so he and his wife had left to get some lunch. If he hadn’t wanted food, he would have been right in the middle of it. They are about a block away right now. They say there are ambulances everywhere. He doesn’t want to leave until he’s sure all of his runners have a way out of the city. I’ll kick his ass if he doesn’t head for home very soon.

      • myiq2xu says:

Update: Nephew lives near, not in Boston. Neither he nor his wife and daughter were in the city today.

    • So glad they are okay, EM.

    • leslie says:

      Thank goodness they are okay.

  8. DeniseVB says:

Good. Fox calling it a terrorist attack. Prezzy notified. Major cities on lockdown. Dear God.

  9. votermom says:

I’ve been listening to this on the car radio. Praying for the people there and thinking some very bad thoughts about f-g terrorists right now.

  10. Underwhelmed says:

You’re all in my prayers right now. What a nightmare.

  11. DeniseVB says:

Fox doing a good job, Shep is calming. I may be in the minority here.

Good point, give your loved ones a hug and a kiss. This is Patriots Day in Boston, coincidence? 3 dead, numerous injuries …

Neil Cavuto just took the baton, he’s even better than Shep…..

  12. swanspirit says:

My daughter runs in marathons , She wasn’t planning on this one but she ran in the Baltimore marathon . I still had to call her just to make sure, and hear hr voice . This is beyond horrible Thoughts , healing and prayers to all of Boston .

  13. SHV says:

“It sure doesn’t look like an accident or natural causes (like a gas main explosion). ”
    ********
Watching WBZ Boston….first explosion at Marathon Sports at finish line; second 20 sec later up the street near Mass. Ave.

?? third identified and detonated by water cannon??

  14. yttik says:

This is just heartbreaking. If it was deliberate, what a shameful thing to do to innocent people. I’m getting irritated by the media already, they’re describing it as “an audacious attack,” etc, etc. No, if it’s terrorism, it’s a horrendous atrocity committed by total cowards. I don’t care about their political motivations or if they were homegrown or not, there was nothing “audacious” about this, it’s just the cowardly act of incredibly impotent and defective human beings.

I don’t think we have to “wait for the facts to come in,” before we condemn acts of violence. It’s okay to show bias, in fact, it’s desirable.

    • elliesmom says:

No matter who was injured, this is a terrible crime. But this long into the race it’s the people who are running for charity or to prove to themselves they can do anything if they try hard enough and their families and friends who were cheering them across the line who have been killed and injured. What kind of a statement is that?

      • leslie says:

But this long into the race it’s the people who are running for charity or to prove to themselves they can do anything if they try hard enough and their families and friends who were cheering them across the line who have been killed and injured.

That is just what my daughter said. And why she was so worried about her friends.

  16. HELENK says:

they fools that do these things really underestimate the people of the cities that they attack.
Between Boston and New York, the everyday citizen will not back down or give up and they do find the ones who do these things and make them pay

    • elliesmom says:

Boston and New York have been rival cities since the Revolutionary War when the Boston upstarts started the fight with the Brits and New York went Tory. Today the feud continues with the Yankees and the Red Sox because neither side wants to concede an inch. But like any siblings, only Bostonians can diss the New Yorkers and vice versa. New York will send Boston any help it needs today. We can count on it.

    • Somebody says:

I heard ball bearings and shotgun pellets.

Devices like that are purposely meant to maim, not as much explosives but lots of projectiles to cause massive injuries and death.

  17. HELENK says:

i remember reading somewhere about ceramic ball bearings that will pass metal detectors

  18. votermom says:

Fox says there was another explosion just now at the JFK library in Boston

  19. leslie says:

I just heard a report there were 2 explosions at the JFK Library

  20. fif says:

My sister works right in that area, but had the day off because of the race. It sickens me to think that someone is actually celebrating the “success” of their plan as innocent people are killed and traumatized. Even without being near a TV, I’m sure they are glorifying it with endless replays. Sadness and disgust.

  21. gxm17 says:

Oh man, most of my mother’s family is from Boston. Crap crap crap. I just keep checking FB, of all places, to see who’s checking in.

  22. Karma says:

Reports of 12 dead and almost 50 injured. And a suspect ID’d…being guarded at Boston Hospital…a Saudi national.

    • Somebody says:

I just walked inside from a smoke break and Shepherd Smith is back on Fox and I heard him say a doctor at a hospital said there were 10 people with different degrees of decapitation. OMG

I haven’t heard why the Saudi guy is a suspect except he might have dropped some backpacks, not sure how they know that.

If it turns out it was the Saudi guy or Saudis in general at what point are we going to realize that those fucks aren’t our friends??? The 9-11 assholes were Saudis……didn’t Obama loosen visa restrictions to Saudis a while back???

  23. votermom says:

    Ass …

    • fembotsforobama says:

WTF point is he trying to make here? Maybe we should ban bombs? Oh yeah, we already do don’t we!

  24. leslie says:

Now reports say there are more than 100 being treated in Boston hospitals.

    • elliesmom says:

One of life’s small blessings – The area around the finish line where the explosion occurred had a large contingency of medical personnel and a hospital tent already set up to take care of any runners with normal post marathon injuries. There were already several ambulances nearby, and the streets were cleared of traffic to let the runners get through. Several of the world’s finest hospitals are less than a mile away. The injured could not have had a better chance of getting medical attention immediately.

  25. votermom says:

I had to laugh at Big Pink bec I’m sure Obama would do it if he thought he could

  26. foxyladi14 says:

My thoughts and prayers are with those in Boston Such a Terrible thing

  27. votermom says:

This is creepy – I just remembered that this morning, when I woke up, I had been dreaming, with unusual clarity, a dream about running away from bad guys through various airport, that ended in my falling and disintegration. Ok, running scary dreams are not that unusual.
The unusual part was after that, at the end of the dream I came to a statue of Mary in a grotto, and then below, Jesus, in a white robe, passed by, looked up as if to se that Mary was ok, and he was wearing Ray-Ban shades.
It’s the first time I remember dreaming about a religious figure in decades.

    • swanspirit says:

I have had bad dreams for two nights , one of which was about my Dad , who passed in 1986 . There was a loud noise ( in the dream) and I remember thinking there is a terrible storm , and then I looked out the kitchen door , and on my porch was my Dad , fallen and injured , and with him was my dog Fetchers ,who has also passed; trying to get him to get up. It was so upsetting that I got up in the midle of the night , went downstairs , and looked at the porch to make sure that he wasn’t there .

      • votermom says:

I think dreams are where we humans can sometimes communicate somehow (has happened to me in past) so I can believe in people picking up bad vibes / warnings during deam-time.

        • Jadzia says:

I think you are right. One horrible side effect of my medication is that I vividly remember every detail of my dreams, all day long. To the extent that for 15 minutes or so after waking, I don’t know if the dream was “reality” or reality is the dream. Gotta get that fixed.

        • Jadzia says:

Unfortunately, although they are not nightmares. they are haunting. Did you see the first Star Trek:TNG movie? (Generations.) It’s like being in the Nexus, cocooned in love and not wanting to leave bc in comparison, reality sucks. Better to forget.

    • Jadzia says:

i kind of have to LOL about the Ray-Bans. As soon as I finish the behind the wheel portion of the drivers exam, i am going (really) to Lourdes for a variety of reasons (assuming husband lets me). I’ll let you know if I spy any funky fashion statements.

  28. elliesmom says:

Understand that my DIL is quiet and shy. This is what she posted on her FB page when she arrived home –

“Dear God, please lend your healing presence to those who had their lives and dreams ripped away from them by a selfish, shit-eating douchebag whore(s) from the pits of Hell. The free will I employ to follow my God is unfortunately used by some to commit horrifying acts against innocent people. Boston runners are not afraid and we will run and not grow weary.”

CNN never really was very good. Their strength was that they could devote 24/7 coverage to a subject. But it was the live coverage, not the commentary, that made them worth watching.

They made their name during the 1st Gulf War and the OJ trial.

    John Boehner released a statement.

Words cannot begin to express our sorrow for the families who are grieving so suddenly right now,” he said. “The House of Representatives offers its prayers to the victims and the city of Boston. We also give thanks for the professionals and Good Samaritans who prevented further loss of life. This is a terrible day for all Americans, but we will carry on in the American spirit, and come together with grace and strength.”
