Leftovers Open Thread

I wrote a post but about halfway thru it I decided it sucked and trashed it. So you’re getting this open thread instead.

Open threads are the microwave pizza of blog posts.

Bon appetite.

“Progressives always know what’s best for everyone…it’s a gift they have.”

“The actual meaning of words is irrelevant, as long as they can be used as heavy, blunt instruments to shut people up, because progressives regard themselves as the sole arbiters of what people should and shouldn’t be allowed to think and say, and they feel perfectly entitled to shout down opinions that they disapprove of, so that nobody else can hear them.” [Sound familiar?]

“Progressive journalists are not interested in the truth, if the truth is incorrect.”

      Pointed, powerful snark!

Sharyl Atkisson was tweeting highlights of Benghazi congressional report stuff yesterday, per her TL.
I copied the text of the quotes and re-arranged them in chronological order:

    Sharyl Attkisson ‏@SharylAttkisson

CBS: Five House Committees (Armed Svcs, Judiciary, Foreign Affairs, Intel, Oversight) released interim report on Benghazi.

Congressional Report: Secy Clinton’s testimony to Congress was incorrect when claiming she was unaware of certain Benghazi security requests

Cong Report: but Clinton ordered the withdrawal of elements to proceed as planned.

Secy Clinton testified in Jan. 2013 “I didn’t see those requests. They didn’t come to me. I didn’t approve them. I didn’t deny them.”

Cong Report:White House/SState Dept. Officials Altered Talking Points to protect State Dept. from criticism for inadequate security levels.

CBS: Democrats on Oversight Committee object to “partisan” Republican report on Benghazi

Democrats: House Republicans are “sacrificing accuracy in favor of partisanship” in Benghazi report

Democrats: 5 Committee House Report on Benghazi “is based on sensitive and classified ntnl security info.”

@FairTaxNancy I believe an issue is that Admin. classified many docs/emails. Some Committee members could see them but cannot show them

Republican House Benghazi report: after a White House Deputies Meeting 9/15/12, Administration altered the talking points…

…. to remove references to likely participation of Islamic extremists in attacks, references to threat of extremists linked to al Qaeda…

…in Benghazi and eastern Libya, and information about at least 5 other attacks against foreign interests in Benghazi. (House Repub report)

Republic. Report: S. State Dept. officials requested, and the White House approved” these details be removed to insulate the Dept. from

criticism that it ignored the threat environment in Benghazi. Talking points were then used by Amb. Rice on Sun. talk shows. (House Repubs)

Democrats deny any political motivations in changing of Benghazi talking points…and have never said who changed them

Democrats say the talking points were altered for national security and other legitimate reasons not having to do w/politics

Democrats to House Speaker Boehner (R): “recent press accounts indicate that you are abandoning regular order on Benghazi and choosing to…

..pursue this highly partisan approach because you are ‘trying to head off a GOP rebellion’ over the way this investigatn has been handled”

White House on Repub. Benghazi report:…appears to raise questions that have already been asked & answered in great detail by the Admin.

White House: We have taken extraordinary steps to work with 5 different committees in Congress in investigating what happened before…

    …during and after Benghazi attacks.

    White House: (We’ve) provided 10,000+ pages of documents, senior agency officials have appeared in ten congressional hearings on Benghazi;

agency officials have provided 20+ briefings for members and staff…permitted members to view classified video.. from the nite of attacks

White House: State Dept Accountability Review Board report… found interagency response was “timely and appropriate” and…

.“helped save the lives of two severely wounded Americans,”while making important recommendations to improve security..we’re implementing

Obama Admin Had Advance Warning On Electric Car Failure… http://drudge.tw/10d45gL

Obama Administration Had Advance Warning On Electric Car Failure -…
Newly released documents show that the Obama administration was warned as early as 2010 that electric car maker Fisker Automotive Inc. was not meeting milestones set up for a half-billion dollar…

Nothing impedes the flow of money to cronies.

My question is why are all of his supporters such crap business people? Is is a prerequisite? The ones that are semi-successful are thieves and the rest are just run of the mill idiots. Even with free money they fail.

      • votermom says:

        It’s probably a pre-requisite, lol.
The good business people understand competitiveness, I guess, and prefer not to owe favors, maybe?

When one has easy access to OPM one needn’t be commercially innovative, just glib.

Well, I think it’s important to remember that the vast majority of startup businesses fail. We tend to hear a lot about the Apples, Intels, and Microsofts – but for every (especially tech) startups that make the big leagues, there are hundreds that fell by the wayside.

On paper, Fisker certainly looked like it had potential: it was, after all, led by an actual, previously successful car guy with decades of experience. It probably looked every bit as appealing as DeLorean did to Margaret Thatcher (despite her free market reputation, she gave DeLorean huge incentives to build cars in Northern Ireland).

It does take real talent to screw things up when you have access to a $500 million taxpayer-funded lifeline, though. 😉

Pope Calls for Release of 2 Bishops Kidnapped in Syria

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis is calling for the rapid release of two bishops kidnapped by gunmen in Syria while on a humanitarian mission.

Bishop Boulos Yazigi of the Greek Orthodox Church and John Ibrahim of the Assyrian Orthodox Church were abducted as they traveled from the Turkish border to the city of Aleppo on Monday. Their driver was killed. It was not immediately clear who was responsible.

The Pope on Tuesday called the abduction is “a dramatic confirmation of the tragic situation in which the Syrian population and its Christian community is living.”

SANA news agency said the two were seized by “a terrorist group” in the village of Kfar Dael as they were “carrying out humanitarian work.”

You know, they didn’t have cable tv or blogs back when the Bill of Rights was passed, so maybe the First Amendment shouldn’t apply to them. Isn’t that basically the same argument?

    • 49erDweet (D) says:

      Discussed here ad nauseam yesterday.

      • Oh yes, but did you notice that this is a Liberal site called “Liberals Unite”? Surprised that they are finally admitting what’s already been discussed here.

        • 49erDweet (D) says:

Many liberals are capable of learning from mistakes in judgement. Go back to the video at the top of this thread. Progressives don’t make “mistakes in judgement”, therefore are never required to learn anything.

  18. Lulu says:

The stupid are valued by some companies. “The study found functional stupidity is more prevalent in companies that sell intangible services or branded products, such as mass media, the fashion industry and consultancy firms.” Um, I think many of us already knew this.

      easier to control

      • Lulu says:

And never question anything. “”It is a double-edged sword,” Alvesson, who wrote the study with colleague André Spicer, told Science Daily. “It is functional because it has some advantages and makes people concentrate enthusiastically on the task in hand. It is stupid because risks and problems may arise when people do not pose critical questions about what they and the organisation are doing.” It is group think by stupidity.

    • Lulu says:

This may be a tipping point. It will take a while to shake out. Academic group think moved to government and the real world is not living up to their expectations.

    • 49erDweet (D) says:

…and that is their Achilles heel. The threads of Corporate Culture run deep in the Feeb. It’s nigh impossible to learn lessons from mistakes when one is perfect in every way.

this article hurts but does have a few truths in it. No the police to not need to be distracted by mobs of angry people who might be more of a hindrance then a help. But more people have to stand up and speak out and do something against terror before attacks happen

Charles Krauthammer was on The O’Reilly Factor tonight to discuss Barack Obama’s bizarre reaction to radical Islam. Krauthammer told Bill, “I don’t know what he’s thinking but I sure know what he’s saying and doing. The lengths to which he will go to avoid telling us the truth about the enemy is becoming comical and certainly embarrassing… He refuses to use the word Islamist which is used throughout the Muslim world… And yet Obama won’t touch it because he refuses to use any words that might imply a connection between radical Islam and terrorism which as anybody who’s over the age of 9 knows is the single greatest cause of terror in the world today.”

I’m just going to call him Caliph Obama from now on.

So many crazy comments, but this one is my fave:

I keep hearing that their is a video showing him put down a backpack and walkaway but I have yet to see a video atcually showing him take his backpack off and put it on the ground. The only videos I have seen are of him walking and looking at other people. Where the hell is this “evidence” ? IF he is guilty he sure as hell does not deserve the death penalty or any prison time. Hell, look at how our country let Casey Anthony walk off into the sunset after she murdered her daughter and took pictures of her at the club afterwards. *This is completely irrelevant but he is freaking hot*

Same thing occurred in the last century when Marie “The Body” McDonald was “kidnapped”. Except it was before camcorders and white broncos.

    • DeniseVB says:

I’m sure JarJar is getting marriage proposals too. The media (even Fox) keep running those “cutie pie freaking hot” photos of him, a la Trayvon, I’m sure it’s to attract young viewers. Oh, and that Saudi National in the hosp is just adorable too 😉

      • Lulu says:

It reminds me of the women who write faithfully (and sometimes marry) lifers in the pen. When I first saw the photo of the Saudi dude I thought it was a girl. And JarJar has that unfocused, disoriented, brain damaged stoner look that is so attractive. /s/ They are just so yummy if you are twelve.

Ditto. Tell them you feel very sick and may need to go to the ER in the next hour. I cannot believe they are doing this. Demand to talk to a nurse immediately as this is an emergency. It is an emergency.

Islam, as one of the great world religions, has a long history of needing to be defended against small boys, blind female poets and elderly cartoonists. Sometimes Muslims have to defend Islam against each other, the way they are now doing in Syria. Other times defending Islam requires demolishing its archeological sites, the way that the Saudis are doing. Either way defending Islam is difficult work.
