This was freaking awesome – Rep. Mike Kelly

There were lots of interesting moments at today’s House Ways and Means Committee hearing but when Rep. Mike Kelly was done giving the acting IRS commissioner an earful the audience clapped and cheered.

This is an open thread.

I don’t know that this IRS thing fits the Jarret narrative since it clearly started a couple of years before. That is not to say that I don’t think the whole IRS thing stinks to high heaven or that perhaps even somebody at the WH was dialed in…….but I don’t think you can make a connection to that statement by Jarret and this scandal.

      • HELENK says:

I took her statement as something she really believes and she has been around since he has been in office. In that atmosphere underlings pick up the message and see that it is carried out

  5. DeniseVB says:

Thanks for the video, I missed it ! Megyn Kelly is running a highlights show today, sort of like Sports Center, but with less Tiger and OJ 😉

  6. DeniseVB says:

Ok, I LOL’d and will be going to hell with soopermexican….

  7. Lurker says:

OT: Just heard on history channel “10 things … JFK”, he was the first to send IRS after RW non-profits/enemies. Taping system was first used by JFK. True?

BTW, History2 has “book of secrets” about presidential cover-up tonight, shows benghazi.

I am truly shocked by the size of the bonuses. I had no idea the government ever gave anybody such lavish bonuses.

The FAA did away with bouses years ago. It was the union’s idea actually and the agency agreed. All the money goes into one big pot and every employee is either rated satisfactory or unsatisfactory, all those rated satisfactory get part of the pot……usually $50 or less. Yes socialism I know, it took away what little incentives the FAA had too.

Prior to that agreement though they did have regular perfomance bonuses, but only those with the highest rating got any money. My husband was always in that top category and I assure you we never got $103,000…….I guess he picked the wrong agency damn.

    Warning:

If you are easily embarrassed don’t get in front of me at the bottle and can recycling center with 10 big bags of cans and bottles that haven’t even been sorted yet.

Sort that shit at home and then bring it in. And learn the damn rules about was is and what IS NOT redeemable.

    Fucking fucksticks.

    • Somebody says:

So you’re grumpy old klown man today eh?

      • Somebody says:

We don’t have recycling where I live, it’s too expensive and we’re too rural…….or we hate the environment…..you pick.

    • votermom says:

We leave our recycling at the curb once a week for pick up *neener neener* 😛

      • DeniseVB says:

We do too. Giant Blue Barrel, we pay enough to let the city sort it all out. Worth it!

      • yttik says:

Where I live we have to drive though the jail to get to the recycling center. It’s like running the gauntlet through a bunch of bored traffic cops. Once you get to the center there are cameras and warning signs everywhere, five years in prison, 10,000 dollar fines for tampering with the recycling. I have nightmares, “what are you in for?” “I put the cans in the wrong bin.”

        • Somebody says:

Don’t worry we’ll all pitch in and make your bail

        • Lulu says:

Our recycling center, for haul it yourself, is next to the sewage treatment plant. Everyone moves quickly and efficiently. There is no loitering. The grounds are landscaped and from the street it looks like a park—until you drive up.

      • myiq2xu says:

I got $20 back. Neener Neener Neener!

        • Somebody says:

Seriously $20 from cans or what?

        • Somebody says:

I ask because if there is money in it for me I could drive down to the city

        • myiq2xu says:

Every can and bottle in California is worth at least $.05 each. I turned in a couple months worth of soda cans, plastic water bottles and beer bottles. (It was mostly diet pepsi cans.)

        • Somebody says:

I don’t think we have anything like that here in my area. If we did I could score some scratch. I’m a diet coke junkie and I go through a lot of cans.

BTW your story about the recycle center amused me, sorry you got annoyed……but then you post you got $20 and I can’t get this song out of my head, LOL

        • Somebody says:

OMG why is that video stuck on that one line……that wasn’t the part that made me think of you the chorus of the song goes I’m gonna pop some tags, I only got $20 in my pocket

My face is blood red right now

        • votermom says:

You win – I never get any $ for recycling.

        • We use the main plant in town instead of the outlying neighborhood trailer setups. Faster scales, pays the same.

      • Constance says:

Same in Seattle. But we get fined if we don’t make an effort to recycle and now it is not legal for stores to give you a bag you must bring your own or pay 50 cents a bag. This is a disaster for me because I can’t remember to bring my bags so I now have about 100 50 cent bags crammed in my closet and I still often walk out of the store with 10 items falling out of my arms. I’m too old for this, I can’t learn new tricks!

    • myiq2xu says:

And another thing – don’t pull that “No hablo ingles” bullshit on me. Yo hablo espanol.

  13. Mary says:

Legal Insurrection pinpointed something important that DID come from today’s absurd hearing:

The Treasury IG testifying said openly that he had notified both the IRS and Treasury management of his findings from the inquiry in 2012 (before the election).

Did the Treaury department (then Geitner) NOT tell the WH?

I got a bridge to sell ya if you think they didn’t.

    • Somebody says:

There were a couple of other interesting tidbits in the hearing today. Most of the information came from the IG though not from Miller.

One thing one of the congressional members said stuck with me, but for a different reason. The member was talking about how the IRS isn’t supposed to share information but the ACA changes that and if they can’t keep stuff locked up now how can we trust them in the future.

Well the ACA was passed before all of this happened, apparently some changing of the rules is in there as far as information sharing. So was the ACA exploited in order to share information in some manner? Is that how some of these people ended up with the FBI on their doorstep, OSHA at their businesses??? Or are we all to believe it was just a big coinky dink?

I know the congressional member was talking about potential for problems in the future but I immediately thought what if these toads didn’t violate the law, what if some of this was buried in the ACA?

    • DeniseVB says:

I’m still looking for Sarah Palin’s legal fund being trashed by the IRS, that was the beginning of the end for her. Not only did she have to resign as AK Gov, but people were still coming after her personally trying to bankrupt her.

      • Erica says:

Yeah, and then other people said she was irresponsible and lazy when she didn’t finish the term. Those are the folks who had their cake and ate it, too. Which is how progressives seem to want to roll these days.

  22. fif says:

Oh fer God’s sake…how stupid do they think we are? (Don’t answer that)

Steven T. Miller, the acting I.R.S. commissioner, who has resigned, called the agency’s actions “obnoxious,” but told the House Ways and Means Committee they were not motivated by partisanship. And in testy exchanges, he said he had not misled Congress, even though he did not divulge the targeting efforts of a Cincinnati unit examining 70,000 applications for tax exemption.

He called the group’s centralization of applications from groups with names that included the words “Tea Party” or “patriots” simply “foolish mistakes” that “were made by people trying to be more efficient in their workload selection.”

If they’re that efficient, imagine how efficient they would be with a 50% budget cut.

But why imagine? Let’s try it.

fif, repeat after me the hail obamas of his worshipful followers:

“if we do it, it must be fine”
“if we say it, it must be true”
“if you question us, you must be racist”

  23. DeniseVB says:

    Agree…

  24. myiq2xu says:

I just saw something on TV that reminded me of an exchange student that stayed with my dad in Oklahoma. He was invited to go to the mall with my step-mom and my half-sisters. He demanded to ride in the front seat, saying “Where I come from it is an insult for a man to ride behind women!”

My step-mom Maria told him (in a heavy German accent) “This is America and if you want to go to the mall you will get in the back seat!”

    He got in the back.
