Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory Memorial Day Weekend Open Thread

Memorial Day comes at us in Sales, BBQ’s,and more Sales . Last weekend friends invited us to a “patriotic” concert in Virginia’s beach area. Little did I know, it was these guys and they were MORE, since the Civil War when Battle Hymn was written, and More AWESOMESAUCE in person. I am honored. God Bless our troops and the USA.

  1. It has been a glorious weekend so far. the Indy 500 is this weekend here, and the town is in party mode. As for me, I cleaned up an old dresser and sold it for $40 in, like, 5 minutes on Craigslist. I was shocked at how fast it went. Freed up my afternoon to make purple cauliflower pizza crust, which I documented here: http://domesticblissreport.wordpress.com/2013/05/25/purple-cauliflower-pizza-crust/

    Purpilicious yumminess!

Definitely an open thread, just sharpening my tech challenged skills on a long weekend. Usually a MUSIC thread slot? Okay…..

So bring on your favorite Up With Happy Feel Good songs, any genre!

Ok, my favorite Hottie, Jeremy Hoop, OH WHAT A SHOW…..

  4. I’m officially now just a bitter, old man. Enjoyed the PBS (how could they broadcast something that mentioned the G word?) musicale, but am I the only person in American who thought one person present was rudely too busy talking, being the Great Persuader?

I grew up close enough to the Weymouth Naval Air Base that we were regularly treated to the Blue Angels practicing overhead.

you are so lucky. they take my breath away. I have only seen them twice

        • Past 15 years we’ve lived 1.5 miles from airport on central coast with annual charity airshow (until this year). At least every third year they were the feature. Would roar above rooftop and practice Thur afternoon, put on a Fri afternoon-evening show, and then the big event on Sat. We sometimes thought they were nuisances. {{slamdesk}} Will miss them this year.

Merced is on the landing approach for Castle AFB/Airport. While I was growing up in was a SAC base and I saw thousands of B-52’s flying low and slow over the town. Every year there was an air show. Now Castle Airport is the home of Castle Air Museum so we still get the air shows. The Blue Angels don’t show up every year but I’ve seen them a few times.

      • (Trying to figure out how to make my mouse pointer appear to be a lone Blue Angel jet flying across the sky graphic thingy).

I was going to post this. Glad I waited. These men perform their daring feats at the Chicago Air and Water Show every other year. The Thunderbirds fly on the alternating years. I love watching them – even when protesting war. I used to hold my breath at their courage and skill. Of course bronco and his sequester put an end to that this year. Someday, he’ll regret all the seeds of hate he sowed. I know I do (hate them).

that petty little puke gets great pleasure out of killing dreams of the people of this country. How many kids have watched the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds and said when I grow up I want to do that.

Sorry to read about your kitty. My oldest now is 18, but I have had a couple live for well over 20 years.

I had a really old Maine Coon rescue who stopped eating when he was 22 but they could find nothing wrong. He was morning the loss of my other cat so I tired everything. Real tuna and bacon no longer did the trick so I went searching.

I found that they carry something like ensure for cats and he loved that stuff. I filled bottles with those pop-up sport tops with the liquid supplement and others with water.

I also used Nutri-cal and vitamins to get the nutrition levels up . Just like described with the Vaseline fir fur balls, you can put it on their paw. The coon would eat it right from the tube. Butter also works for fur balls ans sometimes get the appetite back on track.

Not sure if what/if you feed you Kitty dry food, but sometimes as they age they really go for the “kitty crack” like Meow Mix. They add appetite inducers to the lower costs food to make them attractive to cats and it is less expensive and less of a hassle than getting meds (with fewer side effects).

on Fox there is a show your secret’s out about the data collecting by the NSA and just how much is known about all of us. and a part that parents should warn their kids about how what info they put on the computer and how it can affect their lives. If anyone can get the video it would be worth watching

Just a reminder to be grateful we live in America. Even in jolly old England, free speech is somewhat limited.

because it is memorial day weekend, I am posting this article. I want to thank all who served and the families who waited and served.

many paid a very heavy price to keep this country free, it is up to us to see that it remains free.

From Helen’s link. I urge everyone to read the full story. 🙂
He didn’t want to actually stand in front of the truck for fear of blocking any portion of the artwork. So this born warrior went to one knee beside the truck. If Heaven isn’t guarded by Marines, it will be mighty disappointing.
