I must be getting old.

Today is supposed to be trash pick-up day but since Monday was a holiday it’s tomorrow. My whole day feels out-of-whack.

    Okay gardeners, I need advice.

I had three tomato plants growing. All three were about 4 ft tall, green and fairly bushy. Only one has lots of tomatoes (still green) growing. The other two had no tomatoes but also had some kind of leaf curl. I ruled out insects. The good one was the one in the middle.

I tore out the two fruitless ones and I’m gonna replant tomorrow.

Last year I had some plants with leaf curl. A few years ago I got a barren plant.

    Any thoughts?

The one time I had leaf curl was when the farmer sprayed the corn field on a windy day. Enough weed killer to do damage, but not enough to kill them.

How long have they been out in the garden, what variety, and did you fertilize?

(Sorry, I’m an avid gardener, and raise my tomatoes from seed – 15 varieties)

    • I second cynic’s concerns about weed killers. When I’ve gotten too close to my plants using weed killer on the sidewalk is the only time when I’ve ever gotten leaf curl, but I don’t grow tomatoes. Since the one in the middle is still the good one, it might have been protected by the other two.

Michelle continues to lie about her garden:

“On Tuesday, First Lady Michelle Obama joined school children from across the country to harvest the summer crop from the White House Kitchen Garden,” Mrs. Obama’s anti-obesity initiative “Let’s Move!” said on its blog…..Children who helped plant the garden this April were invited back to the White House for the harvest, “so they could see the fruits of their labors.”

First of all, it’s not summer yet, it’s still spring. You can’t have a “summer harvest” before summer even arrives. Second of all, April was just last month. Unless you live in Ca or Hawaii and have some magic fertilizer, you aren’t harvesting anything three weeks later in early spring.
