Dueling Press Conferences Open Thread

Mark O’Mara, one of the defense attorney’s for George Zimmerman, announced he would hold a press conference after court today. Within five minutes, Trayvon’s parents and attorney also announced they would have a press conference after court. One or both should be starting within in minutes of this posting. Let us know in comments if you’re watching them and what you think. I’m flipping back and forth between CNN & FOX to see if either of them carry them.

This is an open thread.

  1. I’m not seeing them so far on the news. Anybody?

    • myiq2xu says:

I caught them streaming at LI – it was a big nothing burger.

The attorney did all the talking and he said Jeantel the Hutt was a reluctant witness that told the truth.

  2. Here’s part of O’Mara’s.

  3. Jeff Wiener (OS) is covering the Martin/Parks press conference right now: https://twitter.com/JeffWeinerOS

  4. Check out this utter bullshit lie:

  5. yttik says:

Why do they need to have a press conference now?? I guess that’s a rhetorical question. Obviously, they’re trying to hype up the masses and get some public sympathy.

    • DeniseVB says:

Actually, didn’t the media call the Gosnell trial “just a local crime” ? This whole Zimmerman thing is really just a local crime that Obama, Sharpton and Jackson just had to dog whistle their lapdogs and sheep to get all jizzed up over.

When they should all be helping girls like Miss Jeantel to get out of the craphole that is the Hialeah neighborhood in Miami.

  6. DeniseVB says:

I checked with Urban Dictionary and “cracker” most certainly is a racist term. Seems to come from the white slave drivers ‘crackin’ their whips’.

I think if blacks want the n-word to disappear from the universe they should stop calling each other the name !

  7. gxm17 says:

The same people who pitched fits and claimed GZ used the word “c**n” (audio evidence proved otherwise) are now saying the word “cracker” (court “ear witness” testimony) is no big deal. The double standard is outrageous. A racial slur is a racial slur. You can’t have it both ways, folks.

    • CNN sent an AA reporter out into NYC to ask people if they thought certain terms were racial, and he used little flashcards so he wouldn’t have to say the words. Surprise, surprise, everybody said “cracker” and “honky” weren’t so bad, but the N-word was extremely offensive if used by a white person.

I do to tend to agree that they aren’t equivalent, but they are both offensive and should be avoided, IMO. Rachel Jeantel suggested there was nothing racial about cracker though, even as she confessed that that’s how they referred to white people in her “culture.”

    • wmcb says:

I agree that n*gger is generally seen as a more offensive term than cracker. But if you are not comparing how “nasty” each term is, but just discussing whether they indicate racial animus, then yeah, they both do.

Cracker is a term of racial animus towards whites when used by a black man. There is no getting around that. Any idiot knows that.

      • angienc says:

Nothing is equivalent to the “n-word” because the PC police will NOT ALLOW anything to be equivalent to the n-word.

        • myiq2xu says:

Not even the “c-word” (and I don’t mean “cracker”)

        • and it will maintain it’s status as the worst of the worst because blacks can’t leave it alone.

        • gxm17 says:

Personally, I find racial and ethnic slurs offensive. I don’t mind colorful language and I have been known to “talk like a sailor.” But racial and ethnic slurs get on my last nerve. Plus, the double standard being revealed in this case makes it even more offensive. And, FTR, I’ve been called just about everything including “white n-word.”

Is it just me? the most important bill in years that can hurt our country and its security passes in the senate and the msm spends most of the day talking about a murder trial in Florida.

look over there , nothing going on here

  10. angienc says:

How about the word retarded — you know, like when Dee Dee answered “That’s real retarded, sir.”

Are we going to get a defense on that obviously offensive word too and/or pretend that the FEELINGS of morons who are products of the same public school system that has produced such magnificence as Dee Dee determines whether a word is “racial and/or offensive” instead of the actual fucking history and use of the word?

Since this is an open thread, I would like to state that I, for one, welcome our rubbery yellow overlords.

    • myiq2xu says:

But here’s the key: Obama and the Democrats would actually prefer an acquittal here. That’s because the whole point of the ginned-up Zimmerman affair was to inflame racial sentiment to boost black turnout in 2012. With any luck, they can turn an acquittal into another racial rallying cry, which will help in 2014. It’s not about Zimmerman; he’s just one of those eggs you have to break to make an Obama omelet.

UPDATE: Reader Bill Lux writes: “If their goal is prepping the battlefield then they might get their wish. The mainstream coverage of the trial is so abysmal that I don’t think casual observers realize what a farce this is and how weak the State’s case is (Andrew Branca’s tweeting has been indispensable). If there’s an acquittal, many people will be outraged because they’re so ill-informed.” That’s not by accident.

    • yttik says:

I think they’re right. Nothing else makes sense.

I really don’t care if this girl used “cracker” in a racist way, sheesh, “creepy ass rapist” and “pervert” made her meaning clear. She had some obvious biases and preconceived notions. I would expect that. But oh, I do care about media’s bias! Holy crap! They used to put the word “alleged” in there, now I’m reading things like “accused child killer Zimmerman.” That I do not expect, even from a media that has repeatedly shown me that they have no integrity. That is just so wrong.

As many as 1,165 people starved to death in NHS hospitals over the past four years fuelling claims nurses are too busy to feed their patients.

    • The Brits are crumbling before our very eyes. NHS fail. Civil rjghts fail. Free speech fail. Immigration fail. Civilization fail.

And we are racing them pell mell down that rabbit hole. Even worse, thanks to backtrack might actually “win”.

  14. Interesting theory from a comment over at LI:

This is pure speculation, but I suspect that the bizarre behavior – her complete avoidance of the police, the media, Trayvon’s parents, and the Martin family’s lawyer – are all indicative of the fact that she felt extremely guilty about the whole thing. Why didn’t she attend the funeral? Could it have been that she felt implicated in the sad event….say by egging Trayvon on? She may well have encouraged the confrontation or even been the one to suggest it. That’s the only thing I can think of that explains all these behaviors. She may have been the one to egg him on.

  15. What’s cracking this cracker up are the 6 votes for “Racist!!!” and the three votes for “No” in the poll. Of course, the poll has been tweeted some 25 times, so who knows who is voting…

  16. The Martin matriarchy may be the first family in American litigation history to be identified as the proximate cause of their son’s slayer’s acquittal (or the overturning of his conviction) due to their repetitive and egregious Criminal Justice System well poisoning activities. Clueless.

  17. Somebody says:

Hi all…..I popped in last week when I got home from my almost 3 week vacation in California. I didn’t get a chance to thank all TCHers for all their helpful tips. Honestly thanks you guys gave me great advice, much better than my sister. In fact my husband wanted me to tell you all thanks also……on our trip he’d ask…..”Wait did you sister suggest this or someone on TCH” Who knows he may become a crawdader now that he’s retired.

Since our return we had to make another hasty road trip for family reasons and then had to rush back home because our grandchild was born Monday very premature and weighing in at only 2 and half pounds. She is in NICU and doing well thank goodness. We have the 3 year old in the meantime, spoiling her rotten of course!

So I’ve given up on catching up on the news in June….current events for June 2013 will forever be a mystery for me, LOL!!

    • Somebody says:

Ignore typos above lack of sleep does that!

    • votermom says:

Congrats on the new gkid! Prayers that she can come home soon.
Glad you had a good vacay!

      • Somebody says:

Thanks VM. The baby isn’t out of the woods yet, but she is doing very well, nurses say she’s really strong.

We did enjoy our vacation, but if I could go back in time I would have spent those weeks hibernating to rest up for my crazy life now!

BTW the San Francisco area is beautiful and it smells so good. I think that was one thing that surprised me a big city that smells good. It was a little chilly at times, but we were able to purchase some jackets as the ones we took were too light for the weather.

    • Congrats on the new grandkid! Glad to hear she’s doing alright, despite her early arrival. Also, congrats on the successful vacation.

    • angienc says:

Congrats on the grandbaby & prayers for her speedy recovery.

    • myiq2xu says:

Grandbabies are the best. They are better than your own kids. You can spoil them all you want then laugh at their parents.

    • HELENK says:

premies grow fast to catch up and once they do there is no stopping them.
prayers for her and mom and dad and grandmom and grand dad.
find a sale on roller skates because you will all need them to catch up with her

    • leslie says:

just got home and wanted to say Welcome back and congratulations on your new tiny grandbaby! Simply put, “What HELENK said”. 🙂

    • Jadzia says:

Prayers for your granddaughter. The NICU is an awful, awful place but I am glad to hear that she is doing well. Hopefully she will be in a “step-down” nursery before you know it!

    • Karma says:

Congrats on your newest grandbaby. And what fun to have a lil one staying with you. Such lovely reasons to be tired. Prayers for a speedy and healthy homecoming.
