Thursday Night Music Open Thread

This one is dedicated to Bernie de la Rionda, who spent the afternoon blowin’ smoke up the jury’s asses.

If there is any justice left in this country the jury will end this travesty before dinnertime tomorrow.

So given that it’s an open thread, is this the right place for me to say I FINALLY GOT A JOBBITY JOB JOB JOB? Because receiving that news was a nice break from writing Grandpa’s eulogy.

    • myiq2xu says:

Does that mean he has to stay home and watch the little angels?

    • votermom says:

      Congrats!!!
(how do I say that in French?)

      • Jadzia says:

Felicitations. Et puis, je dis “merci.”

One of the things I really miss about Santa Fe is that I was the Director of the Land Use and Growth Management Department there and we were responsible for giving film permits for all film production in Santa Fe County and for helping to create Santa Fe Studios. I still remember when the Longmire production folks first came in and we were all going ….Longmire?? turns out to be a pretty good show. On the other side, most of The Lone Ranger was also shot around there and I don’t think I’ll be going to see that although I do have to say that I enjoyed Cowboys and Aliens. All those little town scenes you see are filmed on a beautiful location called Eaves Ranch.

Yay, happy for jobber, I guess, grandpa not so much ? Congrats and condolences ❤

    • helenk3 says:

      sorry about your grandpa

Great News and Good Luck with JOB

    • Jadzia says:

Thanks, all. Grandpa actually died a while ago, and he was 95 and had an amazing long life. The weather in the U.P. is reliably so bad for so long that it made sense to have the memorial during the summer so that people could actually get to it. It’s still too far away for me, so that eulogy was emailed for a relative to read, which probably sounds very tacky.

    • Congrats on the job! Condolences on the grandpa.

    • leslie says:

Congratulations , Jadzia. Nice going. I hope this just what you want. My condolences on your grandpa’s passing.

I was disappointed with the pilot episode of The Bridge on FX last night. Perhaps this will be better:

    • Jadzia says:

You actually made me run over to IMDB to make sure that my husband did NOT work on this; he’s done a lot of those crappy SyFy Saturday night movies, usually involving hybrid monsters of one kind or another.

Apparently I had “Sharknado” confused with “Sharktopus” (2010). Which makes sense, because I haven’t seen a paycheck in a very long time.

Although my favorite ever was “Bone-eater,” because that one sounded so p*rny. (It was actually a horror film.)

    • helenk3 says:

do you watch Longmier? I really like that show

      • Yep. Classic. And classy, too.

Sorry, posted this in the wrong place..

I watched the original “Broen” (The Bridge) in Danish with English subtitles. It’s really good, but a little too graphic. The plot, the characters and the dialog were excellent.

    I’m debating about this one:

I like Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl) but it’s a remake so there won’t be any surprises. Casting Julianne Moore as the crazy-bitch mom is both inspired and typecasting.

I’ll probably wait for the cable version.

  9. Bummed. I want beer and I HAVE beer, but it’s a delicate exercise in timing. Hubby will not wake up until 9:30, and if I start to early, I’ll pass out* on the couch. I need to time it so I pass out in bed. By 10. Have to teach at 9:30. Ergo can’t have a beer for another 45-60 minutes.

*Pass out means go to sleep with very little trouble. I don’t actually drink enough to *pass out*. I’m a two-beer-for-the-buzz-third-for-the-level kinda girl. Since I had restless legs until 3:30 last night, I need an easy night, hence the beer. Also for celebration for losing 15 pounds.

  10. Whatever floats your boat, or kidneys.
Btw, restless legs not fun. Sorry.

    • They seriously are not. I had very bad symptoms for months before I decided to tackle my weight issues. They are subsiding considerably, both in frequency & intensity, with weight loss. I look forward to when they are gone completely.

Crap. Did I miss the Defense closing statements today? All that turned up on my news searches, musically, was:

    • Nope tomorrow morning. And I WILL miss it because I’m subbing for another prof. Only thing I’ve missed so far except for opening statements. Plan to cheat with my bluetooth during project/activity times. Heh.

    • “Blanket orders from the secret surveillance court allow these communications to be collected without an individual warrant if the NSA operative has a 51% belief that the target is not a US citizen and is not on US soil at the time.”

That’s got to be the cheekiest US policy I’ve ever read, and that includes now defunct portions of our Constitution.

My daughter and I saw Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20 on July 4th. It was a really good concert. GooGoo Dolls opened for them. Well they were both headliners. And they were both good. My daughter confirmed it. 😉
