Catness Update

100_0151

My new owner seems to have settled in nicely. She no longer hides when she sleeps and she is much calmer, although I suspect she will always be a little skittish. She reminds me of Foo Foo in that way. It has been a while since I had a cat running up and down the hallway.

Catness has proven to be both spoiled and a fussy eater. We’re still working out the menu options. When she wants more she meows and head-butts her food dish. If she doesn’t like what I put in it she will walk away.

She is not really a “lap-cat”. She prefers to curl up on my chest which makes it kinda hard to type. She is apparently unfamiliar with the concept of a scratching post. She prefers to use whatever rug she is standing on instead.

What is happening in your life? This is an open thread.

She isn’t a lap sitter yet. As for the rugs, I hope you aren’t terribly attached to them.

I found a puppy today. Little girl wandering the street as sweet as can be.

My Monty didn’t like verticle scratching posts either Buy here one of these (at link). It goes right on the ground. Monty loved it.

Here is a cheaper version — Monty loved this kind too, but the cardboard makes kind of a mess & once it gets to a certain point of “scratched out”, you have to buy cardboard refills for it. But cats usually like options.

I’ll have to get one of those for Son. Maybe he’ll lay off my bed throw.

      Good find.

      • angienc says:

Um, I’ve never heard of that. Bankruptcy is 100% federal law governed by the Federal Bankruptcy Code (Title 11). State courts don’t have jurisdiction. ‘
Do you have a link to the story?

        • myiq2xu says:

That’s what I thought but I wanted to check with you cuz you’re the expert. I took 1 elective semester on BK but that’s it.

      • angienc says:

28 USC § 1334 gives Federal Bankruptcy courts original & exclusive jurisdiction:

      • angienc says:

Maybe that judge is giving a writ of mandamus to the city officials who filed ordering them to withdraw the petitions from the BK court? And maybe they *will* follow her “order” & withdraw, but the bankruptcy court isn’t (actually, I should say “shouldn’t” because the world isn’t making sense right now, so what the fuck do I know) going to dismiss the filings based on that order.

        • angienc says:

That’s ^^ my best guess as to what is going on here from reading the story because I’ve learned from years of experience the MSM *never* reports legal matters accurately.

        • myiq2xu says:

That’s what I was thinking but if that’s legal it would be a sneaky way to circumvent federal law.

When I was working family law the BK court took precedence. Division of the community estate had to wait until the BK was resolved.

        • angienc says:

Yes, BK court should take precedence *and* any issues should be being resolved *in* BK court.

        • 1539days says:

The MSM rarely reports anything accurately.

Remember that the White House threw out bankruptcy law by ignoring preferred stock owners for unions pension funds during the auto bailout.

      • votermom says:

        She literally said that.

“It’s cheating, sir, and it’s cheating good people who work,” the judge told assistant Attorney General Brian Devlin. “It’s also not honoring the (United States) president, who took (Detroit’s auto companies) out of bankruptcy.”

Aquilina said she would make sure President Obama got a copy of her order.

“I know he’s watching this,” she said, predicting the president ultimately will have to take action to make sure existing pension commitments are honored.

Oh, if only the Tsar knew!

        • myiq2xu says:

          WTF?

          A real judge said that?

          What a fucking idiot.

        • angienc says:

Not only a fucking idiot, but here is an actual example of why we have Federal preemption (remember that fucking idiot “social engineer”/attorney for Martin family on Greta who misused “federal preemption?”) Yeah — MI constitution canNOT strip away any person’s “right” to relief under the bankruptcy code — if the MI constitution does, in fact, conflict with the city of Detroit’s right to file for relief under Ch. 11, the FEDERAL LAW PREEMPTS the state law.

        • angienc says:

BTW — the federal bankruptcy judge may rule that the pensions are excluded from/cannot be part of the bankruptcy (it’s possible; I’m not going to read all the shit I’d have to read re: how those pensions are set up, etc to come to that determination but I *do* know that when United Airlines filed bankruptcy a while back their employee pensions where subject to the bankruptcy) but that determination has to be made by a federal judge, not this dimwit.

        • 1539days says:

Detroit could take care of their financial problems by selling gun permits for $1000. It would also eliminate for some of the need for police overtime.

What’s going on in my world? I have the day off. In-laws I are in town – Obots – but the Mrs took them to the Bush Presidential library. I stayed home and just woke up from my nap (I’ve been there already).
My usual routine is to always check out what’s happening here – even though I rarely post – I drive by and read.

In fairness, though, at least backtrack might be partially qualified to be professionally black. He’s been looking for almost six years to find something he’s qualified to do, so from that perspective the timing on this couldn’t be better for his sense of self-worth and ego.

  9. driguana says:

Greg Gutfeld made a very good, tongue-in-cheek comment this evening on The Five….give Detroit to our 11 million immigrants and let them see if they can make it work. While I realize he was being sarcastic, it’s not far from a good idea….something like homesteading, take over all of the dilapidated and condemned properties and give them away to whoever is willing to fix them up.

Big programmatic problem though since everyone in Detroit is on the dole, the lam or the hook.

I don’t know…what do you all think should happen with Detroit?

    • myiq2xu says:

Burn it down and sow salt around the foundations.

    • Dig a horseshoe canal around it connecting at both ends to the Detroit River, call it “Canada” and turn it over to the Windsor, Ontario council to run. Lowest homicide rate in Canada, most successful city government. Dust off hands.
