The Lynching

I wasn’t going to do another Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman post today but damn, Bill Whittle is good.

Take 10 minutes and 18 seconds and watch.

Or you can talk about other stuff.

    am I wrong about this
trayvon martin’s birth mother had him until he was 3 years old.
got divorced and dad and stepmom raised him for 14 years
dad got second divorce and sent kid back to birthmom.
birthmom could not handle him and sent him back to dad and girlfriend.
kid gets killed birthmom and dad sue homeowners assoc and get millions
stepmom who raised him and has to be hurting not even allow to mourn publicly

That’s their culture. You’re a racist for not understanding. /snark

    • lyn says:

I feel sorry for the stepmother. I would think the birth parents would be more discreet after the HOA settlement. I’m tired of them.

    • elliesmom says:

Perhaps, his birth parents are afraid if they acknowledge her role in raising Trayvon, they will give her legal standing to demand part of the settlement money they already have and more they expect to get.

      • 1539days says:

I imagine the stepmother has no interest in telling the real story because it won’t help her in her life, the only ones who would listen are on Fox News, and the parents are so invested in this hustle that anything she says would have serious consequences.

I definitely don’t blame her. The only thing she faces is danger and ridicule.

        • elliesmom says:

She did speak out. She was on with Anderson Cooper. But she was not invited to be a part of any public appearance by the family.

    • Helen, you understand it perfectly. Dad threw out stepmom who kept a good influence on him for over a decade, and substituted a new plaything who had no interest in being a parent. What could possibly go wrong?

    • Mary says:

I’m actually not sure—-are the stepmom and Tracy Martin actually divorced, or still in the process of getting divorced?

Would she be entitled to some of Tracy’s homeowner’s settlement if they’re not?

  3. Pausing it for a minute to express aggravation. People are sloppy with the facts on both sides of this event. You cannot make a “codeine-based” beverage (Lean) with Robitussin. Robitussin does not contain codeine. You need prescription cough syrup for that, and people do use it, and Martin was in search of it for that purpose. However, the kind you make with Robitussin is a sort of Lean-light, and relies on the overdose of DMX, which has its own effects, distinct from codeine.

In addition, I don’t think there is no proof as of yet that the items found in Martin’s locker were, in fact, stolen items. That is supposition, though we might find out soon since the detective in charge of the robberies in that area was alerted to the items (by Conservative Treehouse activists) at the end of April of this year. If confirmation has been reported, I’d appreciate a link, as I couldn’t find one.

Now, back to it, because otherwise, it’s interesting.

    • myiq2xu says:

DMX is some dangerous shit. I nearly killed myself with it a few months ago when I was taking Nyquil for a cold.

      • I agree. So use the facts, Afterburn. That’s my biggest complaint.

That said, while this video was a decent presentation of the facts in evidence (the items listed above not inclusive), I think it would have been better if he hadn’t hit Obama in the end and instead had made the argument that Zimmerman has been the victim of a cultural or digital or even journalistic lynching.

Fuck Obama. Obama has fuckall to do with this case except for inserting himself into any chance he gets. What this has to do with is the unchecked, unrestrained, and irrational hatred of the race-baiting black community for white people in this day and age. That’s the problem.

    • 1539days says:

DXM is worse than codine. Codine is made for intoxication (“pain relief”) but the intoxication in Robitussin is a side effect of the drugs used for decongestion.

From a purely legal standpoint, missing items found in a locker are “found” items, and the school encouraged it to be reported that way to keep crime statistics down. Still, unless Martin was planning to return that stuff, it’s pretty likely he stole them.

Carson would be a better role model than Obama, from wiki:

Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan, and was raised by his single mother, Sonya Carson.[1] He struggled academically throughout elementary school and emotionally with his temper. But after his mother reduced his television time and required him to read two books a week and produce written reviews for her, he started to excel in middle school and throughout high school. After graduating with honors from Southwestern High School, he attended Yale University, where he earned a degree in psychology. He chose to go to Yale because in College Bowl, an old knowledge competition television program, he saw Yale compete against and defeat many other colleges, including Harvard. Carson wanted to participate in College Bowl, but the program was discontinued. From Yale, he attended University of Michigan Medical School, where he attained his M.D.

How sad that a few commenters there don’t really want that conversation. They are so invested in maintaining a victimization status, honest dialogue scares the patootie out of them.

Good points. Never mind other people profiling YOU, reality TV, rap music, ghetto culture, has caused young people to profile themselves. What happens is you wind up with girls like Rachel who think it’s cool to sound and act stupid and people like Trayvon who think they’re all big and bad, invincible gang bangers. The end result of glorifying stupidity and violence is of course, usually death.

    • elliesmom says:

How many black voices speaking out, encouraging other black people to become introspective about what’s going on inside their communities, before it becomes a critical mass? I don’t think I’m imagining the numbers are growing.

    • CONRAD! I love that guy. Good to see he has some sense.

    • yttik says:

Speaking of Emmett Till, it makes me crazy when people say he was killed for “flirting with a white woman.” No, he was killed because some thugs with no respect for human life, murdered him. Language matters, the stories we tell ourselves matter. The “flirting with a white girl ” was the justification for murder that some crazies gave. We don’t allow the crazies to frame the crime narrative in other cases, we shouldn’t in Till’s either.

We don’t say rape victims are raped for wearing a short skirt, we don’t say mugging victims are mugged for carrying a wallet, and we shouldn’t say Till was killed for flirting, because in that powerless, victim blaming state, we eventually arrive at Trayvon shot for “walking down the street.” Was he shot for walking down the street? No, but that’s the only narrative we know anymore.

  14. 1539days says:

Ironically, I think Trayvon Martin would not like the idea that he’s being painted as a punk ass bitch who was caught unaware and shot by some homeowner. I think he’d prefer the story of him “keepin’ it real” beating the crap out a guy for looking at him funny and got killed because the honky was strapped.

OT, I started watching “Orange is the New Black” today:

      • lyn says:

It is so funny. The show follows Piper Chapman’s prison experience. She is in prison, because she carried drug money only once for her former lesbian lover. That happened 10 years before. Piper gets engaged to Larry before she goes to prison. The show is a present-past thing. Here’s an example of the humor. Red is the prison chef. She gives each woman at Piper’s table a yoghurt. Not knowing Red is the chef, Piper says the food is awful. Red gives Piper a special sandwich at the next meal. It’s an English muffin with a used tampon in it. After that, Red won’t let anyone give Piper food.

I was sitting out in the yard with my family on the hottest night ever in Southern California. We got the longest extension cord and the little black and white tv and watched our American walk on the moon.

      I’ll never forget it.
